The Secret Lives of Shopping Carts (2001)
Funny? Hardly.
This short film has everything that is required to make a mediocre short film. Bad acting, poor dialogue, unoriginal camera shots. The short was an Official Selection at the 2005 LA International Short Film Festival, I just wonder how horrible were the ones that didn't make it. I believe most festivals are now created to make money, they are a business. Make a short film, submit it with your fee, and you'll win, no matter how bad it is. There is no more art, no more imagination, it's just money. Oh by the way, your crappy short film is now going to be made into a feature, and don't forget the sequel. I just hope there are still filmmakers out there, and not just people with a camera and computer making home movies.
Hasta los huesos (2002)
Claymation at it's best.
Hasta los Huesos (Down to the bone), is claymation at it's best. The directing style of Rene Castillo is unique and different, and that's what makes this short amazing and spectacular. The Cinematography is astounding, Sergio Ulloa does an excellent job, the lighting, the camera angles, the rack focuses, (which is very hard to do in animation) make this short slide to the top with flawless precision.
I loved this short film. It is by far, better than his first short, Sin Sosten (No Support, but Sin Sosten is still also a masterpiece of claymation. From a scale of 1 to 10, Sin Sosten would be a 10, and Hasta los Huesos a 15. I think Rene castillo should get to work, and do an animated feature, and team up again with Sergio Ulloa.
