Sexy Beasts (2021)
The charm is in the makeup
Most of the entertainment of this goofy show is in the make-up, which I think is really well-done. The amusement comes from the "contestants" being silly in these costumes, and the only real hook is in the reveal upon seeing the contestants out-of-costume. Other than that the content doesn't really match the premise, as all the contestants are very attractive.
Away (2020)
Essentially a space soap opera, but the people moaning about "PC" are pathetic.
Your problem with this show shouldn't be the race or ethnicity of the astronauts. Your problem should be with the utter unrealistic nature of this space odyssey and the immaturity and lack of professionalism of the crew members. Every single thing that happens is so outrageously unlikely to occur for various reasons you can't take the show seriously. It's like whoever wrote this never researched a thing about space exploration other than superficial facts and just made stuff up to further the plot.
It's good quality though, and the acting is good, the visuals are fantastic but I can't get passed the ridiculousness of it. I did manage to watch all the episodes mostly to laugh at the silliness. If you go in expecting a space opera you won't be disappointed.
Flinch (2019)
How the heck are people rating this so low? It's pretty damn funny.
This is a silly show with no point, but that's kind of the point. It's completely harmless fun, and it provides a lot of laughs. I didn't look at reviews or expect anything going in but I found myself laughing out loud. If you want a silly show to cheer you up, this is good fair for that.
The Name of the Rose (2019)
They should have stuck to one plot line
Let me preface this by stating I have not read the book nor seen the 80's Sean Connery movie version of this, but I was looking forward to this show since I like the actors and who doesn't like a good medieval tale? Unfortunately, after seeing two episodes, I have to wonder about the choices they've made with the story. They have a solid cast, a good plot to work with and exciting locations yet they chose to supplant the main story with the likes of mute forest nymphs and wailing gay Elon Musk.
The side stories jump around confusingly, with so many plot strings they become hard to follow and a tangled mess. I think this is also a problem with the editing as the scenes cut strangely. I honestly have no idea what is going on in some of the side plots at this point.
When the story focuses on what I assume is the main story of the monk murder mystery in the abbey, the show is entertaining, yet so far this is only a portion of each episode. Having said this, John Turturro is suitable as a medieval Sherlock Holmes, Rupert Everett is quite hilariously evil as Bernardo Gui, and Michael Emerson is sufficiently creepy as the Abbot, but the rest of the story is a mess.
Friends from College (2017)
I think this is the lowest-rated TV show I've ever watched
Usually I check reviews before watching shows but this time I didn't, as it has actors I like in it and it is easy to watch stuff when it appears on Netflix. I am quite surprised it is so ill-received and I don't think this show deserves its current abysmal rating on here. I think the trend lately is TV shows about messed up and extremely flawed characters rather than wealthy or upper-middle class people so maybe the theme annoys some because of that reason. The show itself is enjoyable and the storyline is relevant to the age group of the characters involved.
Reminiscence (2014)
IMDb needs a report button. This is as bad as it gets.
I saw the high IMDb ratings for this, and I'm always thrilled to see any decently rated horror movie. I don't know how they did it but the ratings on this are FAKE. This movie is just terrible. I came to IMDb after watching 30 seconds of this wondering what the heck was going on, then I saw the real reviews. It will only take you 30 seconds to realise how bad this movie is. You can't hear any of the dialogue, I think they used a hand-held camera or phone, certainly no separate audio. The only good thing about this movie is the pretty beach and the box art.
All the positive reviews are from people with only one review, they just made accounts and used a VPN or something.
