Tulsa King (2022)
So many ads...
The runtime from opening to end is 60 minutes but the actual screen-on-time of the series is literally just 32 minutes, almost a sitcom runtime. I didn't time ads. I paid for Paramount+ and you get to watch without ads. Runtime is 37 minutes per episode but it has an INSANE 5 minute intro montage that cuts story to measly 32. That is unacceptable if they're trying to make a real TV series (paid). Imagine if HBO did this with The Sopranos. Sopranos had a real 60 minute episode run, no BS. And that is how it should be. It's hard to care when things just start moving and click, it's over in half an hour and you have to wait another week. The fact each episode ends of cliffhanger makes the short runtime all that much worse. For that - 3/10.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Saul Goodman deserved a better ending.
Now that we have 1+ month from the finale, I am left with a feeling the finale was underwhelming. Jimmy went to jail for life and that's it, no ultimate goal was reached and no one was really affected besides Saul... probably the cheapest, fastest, and easiest way to just end the show. Also, his sentence doesn't make much sense. He's given a huge 86-year sentence, and as he's in federal prison, there's no chance of him getting a parole hearing until he's completed 85% of that sentence and by then he'll be long dead from old age. What disappointed me about this ending, is why the hell would someone take 86 years to get approval/penance from Kim? Redemption stories that center around "the love of a woman" and that suddenly leads to some sort of absolvement of sins are overdone. I also feel Kim's character was unnecessarily assassinated in Season 6 with the writing in of her nonsensical fixation on Howard. It's just lazy writing. Then the sentence itself. The judgment is very harsh and unfair. I never thought of Saul as a villain on par with Walter. Jimmy never killed anyone and money laundering is not the same as the other crimes committed on the show, not to mention there were no witnesses left alive or any evidence available. First time non-violent offender getting 86 years in a maximum security federal prison? No way that would ever happen in real life. I also wish there was a credits song on par with Baby Blue and not just some elevator music. PS - Marie's cameo was cringe as hell, Saul had nothing to do with Hank's death and he probably didn't even know Hank was dead until he was in the basement with Walt at the vacuum store.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Finally a movie worthy of a blockbuster title
My first review here was in 1999, but I lost access to that email. What I mean is, I'm a movie buff but rarely write reviews. I've given up on movies in recent years due to Hollywood making trash for most part. This movie was finally something good. Better than good. It was excellent. Top of the line, no pun intended. 10 stars across the board.
Ozark (2017)
The ending is a total insult to the fans
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Horrible ending. Lazy writing. What happened to Zeke? Or Three? FBI just picked up bodies and didn't search Darlene's compound and garage? Just left 15 kilos of heroin sitting there? What happened to Claire, did Camila leave her alone? Jonah is now a murderer at 14 years old? Byrde family goes into business of body disposal now? No one bats an eye on people not coming back after visiting their house? Maya ignores that Mel is missing? What happens to Rachel? Did cartel get rid of Ruth's body or did police find it? What about Jim or Charles? Or Frank Jr, does he seek revenge for Ruth? Unbelievable amount of things left open. And that last scene, please...what an insult to the fans. And that car accident!? It was episode 1 opening and it was made so dramatic, such cliffhanger, it was made to look like it was some big event that will change the course of the show. Then we get the actual accident, they roll over repeatedly, get out, brush it off like it was NOTHING, and never get referenced again. No ambulance, no police, no ER to get CT scans after rolling over and over at high speed, no X-rays, no broken bones, not even a scratch on any of them after a major car crash. What was the point of that whe it had zero impact on the story? They rolled over, got a cab, moving on...Wendy's huge goose egg from banging her head on the window goes away in few minutes during the driving scene after she got rejected at the looney house. I mean I can go on forever. I'm mind blown that a show this good, with phenomenal writing in the early seasons ends like this.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
This was bad...bad, bad, bad
I cannot believe how bad this is. The original trilogy is one of my favorite ever. This felt like a parody. Action sequences were criminally bad. I'm talking B-movie Walmart bin bad. How can it be THIS bad when action sequences were so spectacular 22 years ago...I truly can't believe it.
The Ranch (2016)
Without Rooster this show is no more
I was addicted to this show within the first minute. Same happened with House of Cards. Yet, Netflix has taken 2 of my favorite shows and killed off the main actors. I made it through only one episode of House of Cards without Kevin Spacey. Here I made it to the 2nd episode without Rooster. It's just unwatchable without Rooster. And the awful pathethic way he "died"...cringe. Just stop here Netflix, don't bother anymore. Either bring his character back for the final episodes or give it up.
Jason Bourne (2016)
Absolutely Terrible
Just watched it. First upsetting thing was killing of Nicky Parsons...really??? Second, mysterious appearance of a CIA director Dewey who "Bourne has been after me since the beginning". Huge hole with logic as director of CIA in Supremacy was Martin Marshall. What happened to Pamela Landy who was a huge character in Supremacy and Ultimatum, she just vanished into thin air? What happened to Noah Vosen? Third, and final problem I have with this; Treadstone was created and started by Albert Hirsch (planning) and Ward Abbott (field) assisted by Alexander Conklin. This movie throw all that out of the window. One of the biggest reasons why I love the Bourne trilogy is attention to detail, extreme intelligence of writing and directing. All that is gone in this movie.
