La horse (1970)
An old family man
I had not known this film before, I ran into a photo of a helicopter which was a capture from it and I became curious. I am very happy I have seen this movie, it is one of the best I could see these last months. It is that kind of story of a very strong character, a man who feels responsible for his family and does whatever he can to keep the honor intact. Even though, at first, he thinks he can do it all by himself, he soon discovers that if one wants to help one's family, one needs the family's help. The main character, that of Jean Gabin, is the image of the old French farmer and landowner, who is subjected to his land and rules his home like a dictator. No one dares to talk back to him, or, if any does, the old man knows how to shut his mouth. And when a danger appears that threatens the family, he does not hesitate for a second to react radically. When the danger becomes even greater, Maurice uses the help of his sons-in-law, and I think this is the moment they finally become family. The last one who proves to be a member of the family will be Henri; found in his cellar by the police, he finds the exact words and action that discharge him and his grandpa in the eyes of the law, and in the last scene of the film, he accepts his status of a farmer, by accompanying his old men to work. All in all, I liked this film very much and I will recommend it to my friends.
Monster (2003)
a very good film
I saw the film a few hours ago on TV ... I don't believe it ... At first I thought it was a porno film, or something of the kind. I was about to change channels, but I didn't, because of Charlize Theron. Well, then I couldn't go away. Oh! So impressive! What can love do to people! I thought that lesbian love can only be physical, maybe I was wrong? Maybe love is love irrespective of the partners' sex? I thought over and over how to judge Allie, was she pushed by love or by instincts, or by madness to kill all those people? Wasn't there another way? Well, all in all I loved the film, the actresses were great, especially Charlize Theron. I must admit I hadn't seen her before, or I didn't recognize her, but now I will try and see more of her films.
Racolarea (1985)
I can't believe it
I have just seen this film, it's a pity so great actors had to play so insignificant parts. Of course every thing is exaggerated, like in communist Romanian films, but if you are 50 years old and begin to write down your memories it reminds you of the old Romanian planes of TAROM, of the old Dacias, and a lot of other things. Now, after so many years we can wonder how an engineer, a specialist from Romania can be considered important for a foreign intelligence agency, because there was almost nothing original in our scientific research of the time. But the "Securitatea", the Romanian secret police and intelligence agency, did its best to make us believe that we were all about to be intercepted by a foreign agent eager to steal our important secrets.
