Heroes

The series was beautifully made but I'm not here to review the series, I'm here to pay my respects. I live in Scotland and remember when the incident happened, I was 5 years old but I remember. This disaster was a human disaster not just Russian so we all need to take responsibility and the courage shown by those who gave their lives will not be forgotten.

Too easy a target...
26 November 2011
I could be mean and rip this film a new one but as my title says its just too easy a target so i won't bother.

Instead i'll just say well done for having a go at filmmaking but i think you all need to work on your skills both as filmmakers and actors.

It looks like it was shot on one of those low end DV or HDV pro-sumer cams and the costumes were made out of egg crates and old toilet roll although they did make me laugh so there was a silver lining.

I'd be remiss as a reviewer not to warn people that this is a very low low ...low low budget film and you should enter into it with expectations to suit said budget ...low.

Peace.

Vietnam in HD (2011)
surprising...
20 November 2011
I was surprised to see there was only one review of this , i was expecting a couple of hundred at least. Clearly the other poster was not impressed by this series and i agree with a lot of what he said but i also think that these pages in history shouldn't be forgotten and if that means some cheesy music and a bit of hammy voice acting then so be it, although i think Michael C Hall was the ideal person to narrate this.

Putting the production aside there is a wealth of archive footage that gives you a glimpse of what it was like over there, I've never been in a war but I feel I should at least watch these documentaries and try to understand what they go through. I'm not even American and I feel I owe them that which is why i was surprised to see such a small number of reviews.

I make a point of watching and reading as much as I can on any conflict that people have fought and died in, to recognize and remember what they did is the least we can do. Listn to the real guys talking ,look at their faces in the archive footage and read between the lines...ignore the music, that is how you watch a war documentary.

Awesome
28 March 2011
I don't give a 10 rating lightly, this film was just awesome from start to Finnish. I love all these types of movies, crouching Tiger ,house of flying daggers etc, they have a unique way of getting to you that no other genre can and this was no exception.

The visuals were stunning, they blended green-screen with either matte paintings of photographed Sky's and backgrounds and it worked brilliantly to give this very unusual highly stylized look.

I think iv only given a 10 once and that was for Braveheart, the reason this got a 10 pure and simply was because i found my self with a smile on my face pretty much the whole way through.

And come on are those bad guys in the black ninja suits not the coolest looking bad guys you've ever seen.

Its beyond me...
14 March 2011
Im a regular guy, no psychotic tendencies or mental health issues, whoever wrote this however is a seriously twisted individual that should really seek help.

The film its self is so highly strung that virtually every scene makes you feel uneasy. Its not like a horror movie or a thriller ,they may be frightening but they have normal structure that keeps you grounded in the real world , well not this film. If i had to class it id have to say its a psychological snuff film, you feel like you're looking into the mind of an insane person (the writer). Its not my cup of tea, i gave it 4 for good acting.

It does beg the question if that is what the life of a ballet dancer is like with the whispering, name calling and the paranoia with everyone trying to stab you in the back why would anyone want to be a part of it?. And if its not what the hell is the writer trying to say? is the ballet part of it irrelevant and the story could as easily been about a waitress or business woman. Why not just skip it all and go film some real loonies at an asylum and save the millions of dollars.

Great for a hangover
11 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Indie films like this are perfect for just vegging out when you're hungover, there's no elaborate plot to follow or loud noises every two minutes. I kinda reminds me of "adventureland" with that girl from twilight except Rachael Taylor is way more attractive.

Like the other guy said i would have liked to have seen him man up a bit more and take a bat to that guys head at the end, seriously guys like him just anger me, even if he is harder than you taking a beating is worth it to get as many hits in as you can, at least you go down fighting.

Anyway i think thats at least 10 lines, its a decent film you should watch it.

A good example of why I keep my ass on the ground.
24 February 2011
If you get by the first 20 min with its cheesy cliché script it does start to get much better. Granted the acting wasn't that great but never the less its an exciting film if you just let yourself imagine that you are in that situation. I don't mind tight spaces as long as there is a clear way out but if you throw water in there you couldn't pay me enough money to go down there and i think thats what draws you into this movie.

Its also refreshing to see a cave movie that doesn't have some kind of creature trying to kill them, those types of horrors like "decent" or "the cave" take away from the truly scary and very real killer that is the cave its self.

Forget those bloody critics who have lost sight of what watching a movie is all about and just be entertained. Critics are like junkies their first film is a great high and then they spend the rest of the time trying to re live that moment but no film ever lives up to it so they just spend their time complaining.

Its not gonna win any Oscars but hey if every film was up to Oscar standards they may as well start making them out of plastic.

There's only one explanation...
5 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Having sat through the entire movie ,which believe me was like having my nails slowly pulled out, i got to wondering how on earth they managed to get so many known actors on board. There's no way they got the script and thought this is a movie that will forward my career. Another explanation was the budget.... of the 20 million maybe they gave them 19.5 and kept the rest to buy one camera and one lens (seriously there was only one shot in this film...closeups).

But then it came to me, whoever funded this must have kidnapped their families and held them to ransom in order to get them to appear. Its the only explanation that makes sense to me.....the script was truly terrible, the filming was haphazard and the pacing was all over the place. By the end of the film i still didn't know what any of their names were because i didn't give a s#it.

Not to mention their brilliant plan to rob a bank at the start was based solely on an escape plan that involved waving down a passing chopper!!. I've seen some crap in my time ...and now i've seen some more.

seen worse
17 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this purely because i knew they didn't ever leave the coffin and i wanted to see how well they pulled it off. I have to say is wasn't that bad, there was enough going on to stop me from turning it off.

It has its problems like where the hell did the snake come from and why didn't he just stamp its head into the back wall with his army boots and then dig out the hole it came through. He might not have made it to the surface depending on how deep he was but at least he would have died trying, digging through sand ain't half as bad as soil.

I'm thinking the guy who came up with the idea had been watching that episode of Alias where Sydney gets buried in Havana and thought hey i could make a whole movie about that.

Its just a movie but its a great one
5 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I've been reading the reviews on here and i noticed there are very few if any from Scottish people, well i thought id do the honors. I was born in Lanark, the town at the start where his wife was killed ,(which looks nothing like Lanark by the way, the terrain i mean obviously our houses have seen improvement over the years..... there are no huge hills in the background), i still live there to this day. So you can imagine Wallace has always been a prominent figure here.

As far as the bad reviews about historical inaccuracies are concerned I had to laugh..... how accurate do you expect it to be from a time when most people couldn't write? you can squabble over the little details if it makes you feel better.....I'm sure Wallace was a ruthless man in real life who most likely did horrible things but it was a ruthless time. No one can say with any real accuracy what actually happened....it was 700 years ago and if you think you can then your as bad as the people you are attacking......most people have trouble remembering what they did 15 years ago in their own lives so give it a break.

Bottom line, there are some historical facts in this movie you can take to the bank ,his wife was killed, he rose up and gathered an army of angry Scotsmen and took the country back.....I know this because I don't have an English accent. You guys that pis# and moan about daft little things would make horrible filmmakers, I'm sure your movies would be boring as hell.

Its just a movie and if you can watch this and not feel something then you're dead inside. It will always be a favorite of mine despite them screwing up what my hometown looks like!

10,000,000??? putting that money to the clown college would have been a more efficient use of money
4 December 2010
Oh my god i feel we should get an apology from the brothers Strauss for assaulting our senses with this mess. This is the first time iv posted a review while I'm still watching the film but hey there's a first time for everything. As far as story line who are these people whom we know nothing about and why should we care about them??, i cant get past doctor turk in a lead role, i keep expecting JD to jump out with a mental voice over. For some reason the director (s) chose to use a 50mm lens or something similar because every shot is a close up. This film is a testament to advertising, i really wanted to see this but the thought was way better than the reality, avoid it is my advice.

What a load of bull sh#t I'm turning it off.

purely for the fans
11 October 2010
Im a big fan of the original and I really just treat these new films as separate fan films rather than proper sequels and if you do that you can forgive them for some of the cheese that you'll see. Like the other guy said not sure about the ending or where they are going with it but i know Corey hasn't had the best time of it over the years and if it will help him to regain some of his former glory and get him back on his feet again I'm all for it, everyone deserves a second chance.

If you like the original film and have watched the "tribe" then don't stop now you may as well give this one a go but don't expect anything other than a fan film.

watch it on a lazy Sunday morning
27 September 2010
First off to all the other reviewers, we don't need a lengthy synopsis in ever single review, the story is right there on the main page.

It's a good film, its a love story but for us guys its not so in you're face about it, by the time you get to the end it suddenly occurs to you that you've just been tricked into watching a chick flick. You know how in action films its explosions and gun battles but there is always a romantic aspect to keep the girlie's interested, well in this film its reversed.

When i first saw it i actually thought to myself this must have cost them a few bob, when i heard it was 15 grand I nearly spat my crunchy nut cornflakes out and for that i give it a solid 7/10.

Watch it.

i had to laugh, (does contain spoilers)
6 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Third warning this does contain spoilers so only read if you have seen it. First off I did enjoy this film, the acting was very good and there was enough going on to keep me interested. As with all these types of films like "Adrift" and that other one where the couple get stuck in the grand canyon (i forget its name) I have to laugh at the stupidity of the characters. Who in their right mind would choose jumping what looked like 100 feet before considering climbing along the cable?? As for the cable its self it wouldn't be "razor sharp" if anything going through those pulleys all day it would be worn smooth. thats the greatest flaw, if that happened to me i would have immediately climbed the cable and got my legs up army style before i was too weak to do it.

My favorite part of this movie was when the guy jumped, i swear i nearly pis#ed myself laughing, then he looks at the bones sticking out his leg with a surprised look as if jumping 100 and odd feet shouldn't do that.....priceless and for that alone it was worth watching.

Flaws aside it entertained me for an hour and a half which is all you can ask from any film so well done to the cast

A bit confused
12 August 2010
Im a big Neil marshall fan, he seems to be one of the few Brits who can still entertain you. I know he's a man of the people and likes going to festivals doing Q$As so i'm hoping he reads these reviews........please don't ever do a British gangster movie, you, Ridley Scott, Danny Boyle etc are our only hope for a decent film industry over here.

Having said that with this film although i loved it like i knew i would being a Scotsman i was a bit confused as to whom i should be cheering on!. Its always been a great bit of Scottish pride knowing we were the only country they couldn't invade and for that reason i was all for the Picts. On the other hand the characters were engaging and you couldn't help wishing them to safety.....its kind of like watching the battle of the bulge from the Germans point of view.

Anyway its a good solid movie well worth watching.

this is everything thats wrong with British film
9 August 2010
British film is going down the pan, unless you're one of the few lucky Brits who get millions to play with like Ridley Scott or Neil marshall. All we ever seem to get are British gangster movies and they're always utter s##t, does no one have any other ideas?.

This one in particular was the worst god damn thing iv ever wasted 20 min of my life on, i know team America said every film needs a montage but do you really need one every 5 min? i felt like i was watching MTV base......i was just waiting for that dizzy rascal guy to jump out and spin a rented medallion into the camera. I have no idea if this film got any better and frankly i don't care, every copy should be recalled and burned and anyone who actually spent money on this should get it back, unfortunately we cant get our lives back.

If you have any sense at all you will put this back on the shelf and walk away and spread the word.

Oh Dear
27 February 2010
First off i have to say i never watched the full thing but i saw enough!, If someone ever asks me what the worst movie ever made is i'll now have my answer. I'll assume that whoever made this abomination will be reading this.........what were you thinking?? it looks to me like you woke up one day and thought hey i'll make a movie and then proceeded to make it that same afternoon with whatever was lying around the house. The acting if you can call it that was cringe worthy, where ever you found them you really need to send them back and make them promise never to attempt acting again.By the way actually pointing the camera at the "actors" would be a good idea should you feel the need to terrorize the public with another "movie" Personally I think you should put down the camera and step away before someone gets hurt. You probably feel i'm being harsh and you may be right but i feel it my duty to stop others from being harmed.

very unusual....in a good way
22 November 2009
This is one of those films that you stumble across, watch the trailer on IMDb and read the user comments to decide whether or not to watch it. Its a film you most likely won't hear about in the mainstream and based on the trailer you may think to yourself that its just another low budget indie filmed on digital....but you'd be be wrong.

Don't get me wrong if your the type that only likes films that make you drool then you'll hate this film because it does require the use of your brain and that dusty old thing called your imagination.

For all you other people its a beautifully filmed look into the human psyche, about redemption and what is truly dear to us in life. Im unsure as to what there budget was but i imagine it was less than a million dollar Hollywood movie would spend on paper for scripts. And with it they have created a masterpiece of cinematography with great characters and a meaningful storyline.

The soundtrack was superb (although the main theme music was suspiciously similar to the music from "sunshine" by Danny Boyle).

My hat comes off to all involved with this film.

truly amazing
10 July 2008
I think this is one of those occasions that film has created something bigger than its self, film is just celluloid and a great number of talented people doing their job however in this instance due to what can only be described as beautiful acting and an incite by the director and writers into the true depth of what makes us human, they have made something truly meaningful. As an independent filmmaker myself i can only wish to work on a project with a cast as talented as these, Its incredible how the eyes of a great actor can convey more than any dialog ever could and for that reason It is and will always be one of my favorite films.

This was well done using what they had.
3 December 2007
You have to give these guys a break, if you want big budget horror watch one of the million dollar Hollywood movies, these are young guys trying to make it in one of the toughest industries. As a filmmaker myself i can tell you this is well edited, the acting is pretty good, he created good depth of field using a pro-sumer camera and he knew that keeping the angles tight is important when using a camera like the DVX100 as the resolution on these small cameras tends to break up when put to the big screen. I can tell you he does know how to make movies. All famous filmmakers have humble beginnings. The only thing i would say all things considered is that it is a bit too long. If you are an aspiring filmmaker i recommend watching this.
