War Horse (2011)
A Really Fun Movie (Feat. Horse)
I didn't really have much in the way of expectations for this movie going in, but I was presently surprised. The main "character", Joey the Horse was very fun and his interactions and relationships with all the different characters on both sides of the war really shows how from the horses point of view, who you are fighting for and your allegiances. Some of the scenes really tugged on my heart strings. The disjointed nature of movie was a bit of a pet peeve of mine. I really wanted to know some of the characters more like the young French girl or the German guy at the end. They seemed like characters that I really wanted to know them better. Besides that I thought that the cinematography was really impressive and the horse acting was really good. I think this is a great movie and would recommend a watch, especially if you want to watch a WWI movie, which aren't particularly common considering that WWII is a much more popular subject. I would recommend.
Gran Turismo (2023)
A very good racing movie
As a fan of racing I have certain standards for racing in movies. I went into this movie thinking it was going to be okay at best, but this movie was a pleasant surprise The story was quite fun to follow, if a little predictable at times. The characters weren't very deep, but decent enough. There was no character that made me want to rub my head into the couch anytime they spoke. The fact it was a glorified advertisement shown through a few times like all the times they say, "It's not a game. It's a simulator." That got on my nerves quite a bit. Besides that the racing was pretty decent. Some of the passes were way too easy, but it was nowhere near as bad as some than movies. It isn't Lightning McQueen cutting through 40 cars in a few laps then being stuck at the front for the rest of the race. I thought cars and races looked pretty cool and the failure montage was fun. In summary, It is a pretty good movie and would suggest watching it.
Tall Girl 2 (2022)
This movie is an absolute abombilation.
I don't know how to explain how bad this movie Everyone in this movie is stupid. Every plot point in this movie is stupid. It is an irredeemable, cringy, boring sequel to a equally irredeemable, cringy, boring movie. The only saving grace of this movie is a appearance of Jake from State Farm. Literally the only thing I liked about it. All the love plots a cliche as hell, and the characters are not particularly likable. It is not a good sign when I can predict what is going to happen like a minute before it happened. It was just an unpleasant experience and make me want to dig my head in the couch several times. In the entire movie, only one joke made me laugh. Don't watch unless you want to see Jake from State Farm.
The Burial (2023)
A solid film
This movie was a good, and well made movie. Jamie Fox and Tommy Lee Jones were excellent in their roles. The story was riveting and you could tell the desperation of the characters. Some of the side characters were decent but were sorely underdeveloped. There was also a lot of focus on race in this movie which I am mixed about. I is generally well handled, but sometimes I feel it overbearing and wish we could focus on something else. The film itself is fun to watch and had me paying attention the whole time. The change in Jamie Fox's character was interesting since it was over time. He started as a slight unlikable character who came off as slightly sinical and purely focused on money, but as it goes on he become a much more likeable character.
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
A slow, boring, but well made Romance
I had to watch this movie recently for an English assignment, and I was bored for most of the movie. I am not personally the biggest fan of romances, but but this one is especially convoluted. It is the main focus of the story and there is very few other side plots to distract yourself with. It's pacing is very slow and the characters aren't relatable to most people. You expect me to feel bad for some rich kids being forced to move into a smaller house, which is still very big. There is also the fact that Edward is uncomfortably stiff and most of the characters are either literally blocks of wood or are really annoying. I simply don't care for the story or the characters. Separate from the story, it is a very pretty movie with nice sets and being shot without any green screen. I wish they still made movies like this. Some of the actors do a good job like the two mains and Alan Rickman. He was wonderful, but every time I heard him I just think of Snape. It is boring movie with good parts,
La Bamba (1987)
A Great Movie for a Great Artist
This movie is such a great experience. The music is really good as you would hope from a movie about a singer. I do not know how accurate this movie is to reality, but the way it depicts Ritchie and Bob's relationship is really nuanced and deep. They're not just "We hate each other", but also they don't get along a lot of the time. The other thing is the subtle racism present in the movie is very convincing, but I think has aged relatively well as all it is intentional and meant to show the kind of experiences Hispanics can go through. The main reason for my 7/10 is the fact the plot is a bit disjointed sometimes and the pacing is inconsistent. My biggest gripe is the way it ends. I know it is accurate and it is meant to signify his quick death, but the way the movie goes straight from climax, where he is on the biggest stage to the film ending in a few minutes is abrupt and left me wanting at least some mourning. The other minor things are that his relationship with Donna is rushed and very much a side plot. She just goes from not seeing him, to going out with him publicly because of a song. That didn't quite track for me, and Bob's story is not ended in a satisfying way for me. With all that said, I think this movie is great and think it has aged like fine wine.
The Girl Who Believes in Miracles (2021)
Terrible movie with a few redeeming qualities (I do stress A FEW)
In my opinion there is a trinity of things that make a film good or bad. There is the writing, the acting, and the filmography. This movie, cinematically is a mixed bag. For most of the movie it is fine with it looking like a low budget but.competently made. They seemed to have filmed on location, which is good and it looked like a fun time, but the end. The rain is very clearly fake and it is hilarious looking and totally takes you out of these important scenes. I should be feeling for these characters, but instead I am trying not to laugh at the terrible cgi rain. Speaking of characters, they are fine to bad. Most of the characters are generic and boring like the grandpa being the cool grandpa who spoils his grandchildren and has a dead wife. There is the brother who doubts his little sister's ramblings about god, and most of the rest are pretty boring. The first two criteria are fine, but the worst part of this movie is clearly the acting. It is sometimes youtube fan film levels of bad. How is the best actor the actor for the main girl. She is like a normal child actor in terms of quality, but everyone else is so unnatural and it seems like they are either bored or like that are reading off of a script and not acting. How is Emmy winner Peter Coyote one of the worst actors in this movie. He just sounds so strange and uncomfortable, like he's never done this before. This movie is bad but it is watchable.
Detective McLean (2015)
This is a show that exists
I found this show by looking up cop show on Amazon. The best way I can describe this show is a crime, family, and high school drama show all in one, and it does all of these kind of meh. The kids are not that likeable. The Titular Detective McLean is okay and for once a cop show main character who isn't divorced or has a rotating line of love interests. The dad is fine, if not just a plot device for the main character to confide in and the kids to make his life miserable. The crime part is perfectly average and I've seen much worse, but the drunk mom. She is just so annoying. When she comes in she ruins almost everything. I hate her. Everything else is perfectly average. If you were to ask me if you should watch it I would say its good to kill time, but if you want a riveting story that makes you excited for every new thing I would avoid.
