The Laundromat (2019)
Another agenda movie..
Another left wing liberal agenda movie, heavy on drama and not much else. When Streep comes out of character a spews her ignorance is the low point of the film. If you believe the naive fantasy that all power and money should be in the hands of govt, then you will love this movies, otherwise, move on..
Apollo 11 (2019)
Best footage yet.
Saw the Apollo 11 IMAX film last night. Highly recommend. No narration just the NASA announcer, communications between ship and ground plus a few other bits added such as Walter and JFK now and then. Images are amazing, esp in IMAX. It moves well, no slow moments, no soap opera, no agenda, lots of unseen footage and some new stories, pure documentary, the trip is the whole story. PDI is great, TLI is great, LM separation, footage of the crowd is great. Go see, you wont be disappointed. 90 minutes long.
The Apollo Experience: Apollo 17 (2015)
Different perspective
This is a very different documentary. Much more bare bones and realistic with minimal input from others, lots of raw footage. Makes it very interesting and unique. The numbers are correct, 24 went to the moon. Young, Lovell and Cernan went twice.
Homeland (2011)
Jumping the shark...
Been watching for years and this season, 2017, Season 6, is very weak. Quinn was a powerful interesting character and has become a freak. Carrie was also a powerful interesting character and has become a whiner. Dar is a freak. Sal has a minor role now. The president elect is very weak, unlikeable, and being manipulated easily.. "When you run out of story ideas, turn it into a soap opera.." This philosophy is the death blow to many, many series and Homeland is no exception. It is jumping the shark as we speak..sadly
Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream (2012)
Very one sided, very biased, pathetic.
As soon as I heard "a recession caused by bankers across the river" I knew the rest was going to be a joke and it was. The centralists in DC caused our latest economic woes, nobody else. Very silly mocumentary based on pure ignorance of the world as it is today and a total ignorance of history. If you want to see poverty just follow the prescription implied by this "film" and the US will be swimming in nothing but a lower and lower standard of living. Production made America, not welfare. Productivity created the middle class, not regulations and unions(which hurt the middle class more than all else combined by shipping everything overseas) Very liberal, very today, very hip but totally inaccurate assessment of the US.
New York: A Documentary Film (1999)
Limited social study of NYC
If you are looking for another "Civil War" quality production, this documentary is not up to par. This is a very racist, preachy, agenda driven account of New York's history. It is very slow and dwells constantly on how awful the blacks were to the irish, how awful the irish were to the blacks, how awful the protestants were to the catholics, etc and on and on for endless hours. This is the theme of this documentary. It is much more a very biased social study of the history of NYC. Very negative, looking continually at the darkest sides of man in a very exaggerated, highly dramatic (today's Hollywood) manner. Virtually every line has a reference to race, religion, class. Always negative of course. Pathetic. Could not get through it all as it became completely predictable. Every story turned in to one on the evils of man and society. Nice pictures, lousy story. A long, boring, repetitive sermon. Absolutely terrible.
Lincoln (2012)
Great film for many
If you are at least somewhat familiar with history and familiar with the names Lincoln, Grant, Stevens, Seward then you will thoroughly enjoy this film. If you are more familiar with the names, Seacrest, Couric, O'Donnell, Kardashian then this film will be way over your head and you will find it very boring.
Lewis is great. A wonderful portrayal of a fascinating point in time from a very unique point of view. Supporting cast was well thought out and added greatly to the film. Familiar faces every where.
Cannot give it a 10, those are for only the best of the best but this is close.
