Shine Your Eyes (2020)
Psychological journey against the backdrop of a immigrant city
An intriguing multilingual journey into the world of family expectations driving people to question existence. As a polyglot, I enjoyed the vivid usage of Igbo, Portuguese, Hungarian, Chinese and Arabic in this film.
Ashkenaz (2007)
Thought provoking documentary about Israel society
Very artful, intellectual and academic discourse on the European Jewish influence of the modern Israeli identity. Requires some background knowledge about jewish and Israeli history to be fully appreciated but also recommended to anyone moving to Israel.
Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator (2019)
When talent goes egomaniac
I'm not sure if I've just watched a documentary about a yoga teacher or the current US president?!
Wolkenbruchs wunderliche Reise in die Arme einer Schickse (2018)
The cutest movie ever
Sure the acting is at times bad, the conversations unnatural and the whole story line simple but it's one of the cutest movies I've ever seen. A true heart warmer
samuel-613 (2015)
A rollercoaster of the mind
A psychological roller coaster journey compressed into 15 minutes whilst dipping into the world of Hasidic Jews of London. The grainy imagery in between allowed for meditations and thoughts to be processed. At the end one wonders what a good balance between tight knit community with strict rules and absolute freedom could be or if we have to choose one or the other.
Ready (2011)
Another racist movie from India
Yes, the film has it's funny moments. Some scenery shots are beautiful. If you speak Hindi, you will appreciate the language jokes. What I was shocked about though is the racism in this film. What we are used from Bollywood films is that fair skinned people are the good and pretty ones and dark skinned ones are the bad ones. Here, we even have European girls as background dancers to make it prettier, and real African guys in the beat-up gang to make it look more evil. The scene I walked out on is when someone walks up to a black hotel employee and tell's him "Who are you? Look at yourself. You're so black, that if they'd put you on national TV the entire country's evil will be taken out".
