Annie & Boo (2004)
A Short Film with a Very Interesting Premise.
This animation by Johannes Weiland and Dirk Stoppe has one of the most interesting and unique story lines that I have come across in quite some time. The animation is in the modern, computer-generated style, and while the actual animation may be a little below average by today's standards, the unique premise more than makes up for it.
While, I do think the basic idea could have been used to better effect, there are a few laughs and the short does make you look at things in a new light. Despite the rather uncreative character design and dialogue, I would recommend this film for fans of modern short animation, for those who like ideas a little outside of the box, and for those looking for an interesting way to waste a few minutes.
Rare Exports (2010)
Dark, But Highly Entertaining Christmas Film
I just recently caught a screening of Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale and I was definitely not disappointed. My expectations were relatively high after having seen the two short films previously released in this series, and while this version did stray somewhat from the concepts shown in the short films, it did stay true to the overall feel of the previous incarnations.
Although this film was not particularly deep or thought provoking it was very fun to watch and highly enjoyable. Somewhat creepy in places, this was mainly played up for humorous effect and overall the film displayed a dark sense of humor quite different from any Christmas movie that I have ever seen.
I would highly recommend this film to fans of the original short films or anyone looking for something a little bit different around the holiday season!
