Harmless fun - don't believe the bad reviews
4 January 2024
I don't understand the bad reviews this film received. I honestly enjoyed it and found it fun. In fact it really cheered me up when I was feeling a bit rubbish.

They state their intention right away by claiming upfront there are embellishments and Michael Fassbender doesn't even attempt to do Rongen's accent so it is clear this is just a bit of harmless entertainment. If you want the 100% factual story watch the documentary Next Goal Wins.

There were some LOL moments and really funny lines. I would say it is a feelgood story that I would happily see with my mum, my brother or my boyfriend.

If you are someone who prefers more sophisticated or satirical comedy then it may not be for you, but if you just want a good inoffensive film then I can recommend it.

There are some good comedy performances from the cast and it does make you want to go and google the real people

I am a Taika and Fassbender fan so maybe I am biased but I think this is more an audience film than a critic's film.

I am going to go to the cinema and see it again which I rarely do so that says something.

A really good film but not for young kids
19 December 2022
If you love Christmas and comedy then this is for you.. even if you arent keen on musicals.

The pacing is perfect and it keeps you interested throughout with a few surprises. All the cast are excellent and i did genuinely laugh out loud a fair few times which isnt always a guarantee with me.

I loved the costumes the sets and the songs and the dance numbers were just jaw dropping. I felt like it was old school hollywood standard but with modern dance moves.

Great for adults and young people but a bit too grown up for really small ones. As theres a few grown up references in there

I enjoyed it so much im going to watch it again.

Best film ever

Dont be fooled. This isnt a high school movie just aimed st teenagers... this is a film that everyone should see. A moving funny heartbreaking engaging film that covers so many emotions and topics that the only way you wouldnt be able to relate is if you were never human. The performances were outstanding and it is never cliched. This came out in the UK in 2019 and it was my best film of that year by miles and miles and i still havent seen film that has stuck with me as much (uncut gems us equally good though). I think grown men wont watch it but they should... everyone should. My only criticism is it made me cry.... a lot!

Funny, moving, upsetting and brilliant
3 March 2019
Saw this at the Glasgow Film Festival. Im a 90s music and comedy fan from the north west of england and was a Frank Sidebottom fan. But the man behind him was so much more interesting and that is the true achievement of this film . A complex character who was a true creative whose talents were way beyond what he became famous for. Was so interesting to hear his wife and family talk... lovely people who inspired him

go see even if you are not a frank sidebottom fan.

The Interview (II) (2014)

Haven't laughed this much in ages ... too funny
19 January 2017
I've just watched it and to quote a cliché it was laugh out loud funny. James Franco is a massively talented comedy actor who gets all the best scenes. It seems obvious to say as its made by the same people but if you found This is the end hilarious, you'll love this.

Im going to watch it again tomorrow as there was so much comedy I'm sure i missed something. Mixed silly stupid jokes with more sophisticated humour...all funny.

The cast were all strong and even the celebrity cameos delivered laughs.

Franco plays a similar character to the send up he did of himself in This Is The End. He plays Dave Skylark, an in depth interviewer of shallow celebrities.

Rogen, who co-wrote & co- directed gives Franco the best part as he plays the straight man as Skylarks producer who is also desperate to be accepted amongst serious journalists. His wish seems to come true when North Koreon dictator Kim Jon Un invites the pair to interview him.

Cue CIA intervention, the pair are roped into a plot to assassinate the despot.

Needless to say their lack of preparation or expertise bring so many laughs but not in a totally obvious way

Watch it for a good laugh at some clever well written humour
