The Predator (2018)
All in all a fine, silly movie.
Watched it and thought it was fine. I laughed out loud more then I thought I would. It was as good as any of the Predator movies. Crazy how all the fanboyz are so butthurt!
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
loved it
I have always loved the Coen brothers stuff. This is no exception. The cinematography is grand, the stories stick with you. We kind of stumbled across it on Netflix, so happy we watched it.
I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)
I liked it... lol
All the hate. But I liked it just fine. Yes it's "slow", yes it leaves you asking for more info. But I thought about it all night and into the next morning. It left me wanting to talk about the movie, but not just to cuss it out :) I would watch it again to get answers.
Deadpool 2 (2018)
Just what I thought it was going tp be :)
Loved the first one. This one was not as good, but it was still a fine summer time, afternoon movie. I thought it still had lots of laughs, still had action.
Saborîman Kantarô (2017)
This was so much fun!!!
I stumbled on this, then could not stop watching! I loved the fact that they used real shops and real desserts, sigh! I found this very, very enjoyable. I want the second season please...
The Counselor (2013)
This was a GREAT movie.
The cast was perfect. The acting was good. I was enthralled the whole time. I'm sure this movie is not for everyone and it seems that people are taking it wrong in some aspects. But for me it was the best movie I have seen in a long time. I don't need a movie to spell everything out, to make sure I know exactly what's going on. You get the gist of it. Yes there was lot's of dialog. But it was totally realistic, if a bit wordy in spots. I was thinking about the movie and going over scenes for 2 days afterwords. Puzzling it over and bringing up questions, my husband did the same thing. I love Mr. McCarthy's writing and this movie was a great adaptation.
Brüno (2009)
I was very surprised it was not funny...
I love this guys work and all of his characters. I really loved "Borat" and all the Ali G stuff! So I was very surprised when I found this movie not funny at all, or even "cutting edge". Most of the comedy was very forced. Stuff was "over the top" but so predictable that it canceled it's own "over the top-ness"! I was really bored with the whole thing and had to force myself to keep watching. I was hoping for so much more...I wanted to laugh but yawned instead, very sad... I had to give it 3 stars. Maybe it deserved less. I hope Mr Cohen's next work is better. I'm still a fan, but now he's got to prove to me he's still got it!
Quarantine (2008)
I'm really not sure why so many people seem to like this???
***Maybe a spoiler*** This movie started very slow. My husband kept asking me if I put the wrong DVD in! Yawn... Then it got a wee bit better. We kept our fingers crossed hoping for a payoff! Then it completely fell apart and was so, so annoying. The ending with the cult and the cult apartment was extra annoying! Just shove some sort of weird idea in the plot hole to fill it up... What a waste of time. I don't expect much out of "Horror movies". I was way happier with the likes of Cloverfield, Bubba Ho Tep, that movie about chicks in a cave etc... I can suspend reality with the best of them. But this movie did not make the grade. I gave it a four out of ten and was very happy I checked it out from our library and didn't pay any money at the box office or rental store.
Slither (2006)
Pretty darn good :)
After some really bad movies last year and this year, I was happy to sit down, relax and have a really good time watching Slither. I gave it a seven star rating(my friend and boyfriend gave it a strong 6 stars). I laughed, jumped out of my seat a few times(I'm a pretty easy scare)and goggled at the ideas and special effects(which were good, not great, but moving at the moment). The other people around us also seemed to be having fun. This movie is a upgraded "B" movie. It won't move mountains, but it will provide entertainment. I couldn't pick out anything I'd change. My friend liked that it had "gore" but not "gore over-kill". My boyfriend, who liked it well enough still wished for dialog that was A "bit more clever".
Doom (2005)
I thought it would be watchable...I was wrong...
I knew DOOM was not gonna be the best movie in the world. I thought it would at least be a entertaining rental. I like the Rock and his brand of acting. I like guns, blood, monsters and gore. I like to play DOOM. But the movie was really too long with not a lot to offer in any category of entertainment. Special effects were very "ho hum", scares were not scary, the plot was very thin(even for this type of movie). We wondered half way through if we should stop, go to sleep and finish the next evening. But that felt like a bad chore left undone, hanging over our heads. So we finished it by propping our heads in our hands and waiting it out. Blah! Two stars at the very most.
Final Destination 3 (2006)
Not as good as 1 and 2
Blah! I liked number 1 and really liked number 2. They were fun for what they were, cheap thrill movies. Number 2 had some great "jump out of your seat" moments, along with that really great highway scene!!!!! WOW! The whole theater was mesmerized with the action. But number 3 was slow and lack luster. The deaths were "yawners" and kind of stupid. We were not spooked or nervous or grossed out. It was all very "ho hum" and we were sad :( Also a lot of the actors, who were supposed to be high schoolers looked about 27 or had boob jobs (not enough boobs were shown to make the movie worth seeing). When your popcorn is better then the movie, give it a 3. Disappointing.
Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)
This was sooooo BAD !!!
**Maybe spoilers** **hard to spoil this thing more then it is, but just in case** Gee's I don't see how anybody could have liked this re-make!! It was like a "made for T.V" show and still pretty lame for that. Lots of fake snow, bad acting by top stars, bad action and that crazy pine forest in Detroit. What the heck??!! I didn't really think this would be a great movie but I was hoping to be entertained. Nope, we fell asleep half way and had to finish it up the next day. I could have skipped the rest easy(but then I would have missed those great piney woods!) I'm so glad I missed this at the theater! Bad enough to have wasted $3.50 at the video store. And I am a lover of cop, action and drama films. This was a very stinky 1 out of 10 stars. Give me the original any day!!
Dreamcatcher (2003)
Not as bad as I thought it would be
I refused to pay money to see this film. I refused to spend money to rent the video. But I came across the DVD at the library so I checked it out. I will watch a "bad" movie for free! Lots of other comments have out lined the plot so I won't. I will say there are plot holes and some pretty bad dialogue. Overlooking that I thought the movie was enjoyable. I gave it a 7 out of 10. On the DVD it showed the original ending which by boyfriend liked better, but I thought was much more lack luster. Stephen King movies can be crapshoot and it can be hard to deal with his predictable story line idiosyncrasy's. So if you can get this movie on a two for one night or at the library, take the chance. I still wouldn't pay money to watch it.
Shi mian mai fu (2004)
VERY, very, pretty...
7 out of 10 stars... This movie was super eye candy! Great costumes, great settings. The fashion...the dancing...the bamboo groves...the woods...the fields... Yummy!!
We had some trouble laughing at parts of the movie that were not supposed to be comedy. But we still had a great time! The fights/action were good and there were some misty eyes by the end. When the lights went up the crowd seemed happy. I went to the movie with a open mind and no expectations. If I had gone thinking the movie was more action based I might not have been so happy. **********SPOILER BELOW***********************************************
The worse, most funny/not meant to be funny laugh, was at the end when Mei sat up from the snow. The whole crowd did a caught off guard belly laugh!! The ending was almost too much/over the top and yet not enough... Still I will give it 7 out of 10
The Village (2004)
Not horror, still good good !
Mr. Shyamalan is my favorite guy !! He can be sweet, sappy and push all your buttons with out going overboard and killing you with emotion like Spielburg(gack!). I saw the trailers and thought "HORROR !!!". I'm glad I read some reveiws and toned down my anticipation before I went to see this movie. I give it a 10 outta 10. I had no problems with any part of it. Loved the acting and actors and all the rest ! I had a fine and happy movie going time. The teenie boppers in the back might have been a touch bewildered, but I was in pure enjoyment.
**Spoiler?** "Where did they get the cloth for their clothes? Was it ALL wool?" Ouch! My boyfriend ask me this and I can't get it out of my head!! :)
The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)
Fine movie fun
Man! I was scared to see this movie. I wanted it to be good or at least fun. I even went on a full price Saturday night. I really liked pitch black, I love sci-fi stuff and Vin can be some really heavy eyecandy. "Please Oh please !! Let this movie be half way OK ! Please !" My wish came true... Yeah sure, this movie is not the "all time best movie" in the world. It's not mind blowing, heart stopping and I didn't cry. But it was really fun. FUN ! The action - fight stuff was right on. The actors were good enough. The sets and planets looked great. Time flew by. We cheered and laughed. I didn't feel cheated paying $8.50 for the ticket. Not all my friends would have liked "Chronicles of Riddick". The hand picked few who went with me did. My only problem was with Jack-now-Kiera(or however you spell her name)looks. Boy, for living in a nasty-butt prison she sure can get her hands on great non-smear eye make-up and hair care products. I wish they would have had her just a touch more "real" looking. I still like the actress in that role. Just a little less super model please. 8 out of 10 stars
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Very happy!
I saw this film tonight and was happy as can be! We went to the early, cheaper showing just in case it was gonna be a stinker. But this film is no stinker! A good time was had by all! We ate popcorn, yelped, jumped talked back to the film "arrggh! No! what are you? Stupid?!!", laughed and screamed once or twice. The zombies looked "good", the people were "real" enough for me and there was a dog(I was hoping there would be a mall puppy mill/pet store, with puppies that the people would have to consider as a food source and of course the "good" people would not eat puppies. Or would they??!! Hee hee) This film was fully worth the $6.50 we each paid to see it. Maybe it's not a huge classic, but it WAS FUN! I give it a big 7. And please Lord...if I get caught in the middle of a zombie plauge...Let them be the slow zombies!!!....PLLEeease!!! :)
Plump Fiction (1997)
Not the best thing in the world, but I laughed !
I watched it with out being board. Grinned alot and laughed out loud a few times. The "Natural blonde killers" stuff was great! Jimmy and Julius was right on. I was happy I rented this video, but would not force others to watch it.
Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
Slapping Jessica stein...
cause thats what I wanted to do!!!(I'll take Helen any day!) This movie was still WAY better then I thought it would be. And for a romantic comedy it was OK. I'd give it 3 stars outta 5(unless I think about it too much, then it would be 2 outta 5).It was fast paced and hardly stupid sappy. But I could not deal with Ms.Stein's wimpy, dithering icky-ness! And whats up with her mouth!?
And**SPOILER**SPOILER** Whats up with saying Helen dumped her cause she wasn't GAY ENOUGH!!?? How about Helen dumped me cause... "I'm a cold fish" or "I was lying to myself about my sexuality" or "I'm a huge loser as a real person"!! Not gay enough...ugh! Shoot! I've thought about it too much now...2 stars out of 5 is the real deal.
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)
I laughed with a furrowed brow...
Yes this movie was very stupid. But I also laughed till tears came to my eyes. I kept thinking "why am I laughing?!" as pop came out my nose! I love kung poo movies of any type and was happy to see/hear all the stereotypical fights, gestures and dialog. The dog parts were good too. I gotta say I'd give it a easy 8 out of 10. This movie is not for everyone. I think most non-silly people would hate it.
Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
I love Tom Green, BUT UGH!!!
I love gross. I love guts. I love the stupid and the weird. But man oh man... this movie was sooooo bad! I forced this movie on myself and I'm very sorry! Self, please forgive me! The best part was the end when the credits rolled. I give this movie zip-zed-zelch...Nothing out of 10. Not one star. It is my new low. I'd watch roadhouse before this. Stinky...peewhew!
8 Mile (2002)
I saw it at the cheapie theater...
It was a fine film for two bucks! 5, maybe 6 stars out of 10. But I would have been p***ed off to have paid eight bucks or more at a regular movie house! I was amused by the whole film, laughed out loud(in a good way) a few times and was happy with the "rap battles". I wouldn't tell people to run and see it, but I wouldn't tell em to stay away.
The Warriors (1979)
In my top ten of best movies!! :)
Ahhhh! I never get tired of watching this movie. It is a little cheesy in 2003, but still has my vote. When watching it with people who are seeing it for the first time you must clue them in on when the film was made and if possible, see it at some midnite movie with other fans. 10 out of 10! Yeehaw!
Jackass: The Movie (2002)
I laughed so hard my face HURT !!
I loved to watch jackass on t.v and I loved the movie. But it is what it is...It's pure Jackass! Some people are gonna hate it if they don't know how jackass works(my mom would not like jackass) But for how the movie made me laugh, I give it a 10 out of 10. And I would not try to do anything they do. Yeehaw!
Siu Lam juk kau (2001)
I was totally happy with this film!
Sometimes you just want a movie to get lost in. No thinking, just watching. This was a sweet "nothingness" of a flick. Yep, no real plot, or twists, or character development. Just great effects, laughs and fun, fun, fun. I give it a 10 out of 10. Might not be everybodys cup of tea, but it was mine.
