Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut (2024)
Great documentary and worth a watch
I'm not sure why all these haters are saying it is childish. There are animations, but it helps visualize what is happening in the body. It's not meant to make anyone feel dumb. But the processes are so complex, sometimes people enjoy a visual to break things down. I have had constant gut problems for over 10 years and have gone to all of the doctors, tried all of the medications and supplements and no one thing had been the definitive answer. After watching this, I really focused on eating a much more diverse diet throughout the week. At first I was bloated. But by the end of the week, I felt amazing and I actually lost weight. So, I would say they're definitely on to something.
Lisa Frankenstein (2024)
Love this!
Firstly, I love anything in the 80s. So, I was happy to see that the story was set in 1989. This is Heathers meets Edward Scissorhands meets Lydia from Beetlejuice ...no doubt things were heavily influenced by Winona Ryder & Tim Burton. I really liked this twist on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Kathryn did an amazing job acting like a totally morib weirdo, as Lisa. Taffy was such a great side character too - I expected she would be the typical mean stepsister - but she was kind and funny...with the exception of THE "sisters share" moment. I recommend watching this if you like any of the aforementioned movies or just have a thing for some light gore and humor.
Role Play (2024)
It's entertaining & doesn't take brain power to watch - I like that
For those of us that have to use our brain critically on a regular basis, this is the kind of thing I look for to unwind. Kayley is always cute & a pleasant person to watch. This story, albeit overplayed in cinema, was still entertaining to watch. Perhaps as a woman, it's more relatable because it's like "yeah, I'm a badass and you actually have no idea". But I thoroughly enjoyed it. I only found it too shallow on her backstory - I wish they would've covered that way more. It was too quick to see the "villain" and not enough time to actually hate her in order to root for Kayley's character. Plus Kayley must feel something for her because she didn't make sure she was dead. Highly recommend to watch for some light fun.
American Horror Stories: Bestie (2023)
Tired storyline with lame ending
The whole internet being dangerous, high school bullies, poorly behaved kid post parental death is so overused. I can tell that AHS is running out of creative stories to tell. A girl that looks like young Chloe Sevigny is angsty because her mom passed away from cancer and her single dad decided to move them for a fresh start. The kids at her new school call her a grandma and a lesbian and so she's mad. She gets online and befriends a girl who says she was disfigured because her mom did drugs while she was in the womb (seemed like a lie). The creepy internet friend makes her do things & unsurprisingly they escalate to something detrimental. Predictable, boring, annoying.
Prom Night (1980)
Great for Laughs & Disco, Not Great for Scares
I expected more from Jamie Lee Curtis than this lame movie. I do absolutely love the late 70s/early '80s nostalgia. But as far as 80s slasher flicks go, this is probably the worst I've seen. It has all the classic elements of a slasher, but there's barely any slashing. It's like they wanted to make a scary movie without it being scary. It does not even compare to Halloween or Friday the 13th. I basically laughed at every killing scene. The killer is even so lame - wearing all black with a - what appears to be - sparkly ski mask? And beforehand he just calls his victims and whispers in to the phone to them. It's honestly hilarious. I did enjoy the consistent disco track in the background 😂.
The Nun II (2023)
Better than Nun I, but still misses the mark
The first Nun was horrifying in that it wasn't scary in the slightest. It was 100% cheesy jump scares that anyone could tell were coming. The Nun II however, got in to being actually creepy - with bone cracking, demon goat chasing, incense burner bludgeoning...and more. I just wish they would have added more Valak. It took that dang demon over half the movie to even show itself entirely. And then it was so easily defeated - by prayer. Like really? After all that ...after obtaining the most powerful relics to help it regain its lost power...some wine defeats it. So, the end is definitely lacking. But overall, it was entertaining enough.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
I wish I never watched this
I wish I had never watched this unnecessary sequel. Disney completely missed the mark with this one. The original had dark and spooky elements to it, yet remained something kids and adults could watch. This sequel was not dark or spooky at all - just goofy. All the reviews saying that "if you have kids, you'll get it", obviously haven't seen the first one. Because I don't care if you have kids or not, this was not even remotely close to the original vibe. It had so much potential though - the Sanderson Sisters' backstory, the original witch, etc. Those could've been good storylines. But, also, did Disney completely forget that Book was given to Mary by the Devil? Not the witch??? And don't even get me started on all the lame musical numbers. This was horrendous and not fun. I wish I could take back watching it because it spoils the original.
M3GAN (2022)
It could've been good but it wasn't
This was such a disappointment. It had potential to be really creepy but it was not at all. M3GAN went from 0 to 100 really quickly for no reason. She meets her primary user, pairs with her and decides murder is the best solution to protect her? If she had any ability to reason, I don't think that would be the first option. Honestly a robot that functions like this is probably close to being possible; if it isn't already. But did she become murderous? It makes zero sense. I wanted an actual reason and some progression. If she was programmed with certain parameters, this makes no sense!! It's so infuriating.
Drag Me to Dinner (2023)
I wanted to love it. But I don't.
First, I totally get the campy vibes & humor. It's so important to continue to show and celebrate Drag. They're truly some of the most talented people out there. So, I love that this is providing more exposure to the art. But the pacing of the show is so choppy and sloppy. My brain cannot handle it. There are too many things going on and not a cohesive storyline. It bounces from cooking to Sue Chef to cooking to singing to cooking to beefcake helpers to cooking to a dinner party. I felt like I didn't know where to focus. It also looks like an elementary school kid filmed it. Sorrrrry, but this show is a drag. Heh heh heh.
Celeste Barber: Fine, thanks (2023)
Stopped after 10 min
Ugh. Celeste. I love you. But this was not it.
It was such dry material. It felt like maybe she didn't actually write these jokes and someone else wrote them for her? I have to believe she is funnier than this.
I stopped after the first 10 min where she talks about being quarantined with her husband & kids and how annoying it was.
I didn't find that funny or interesting at all. The quarantining jokes are so played out - we get it, you were stuck with people. As was the rest of the world...
And it stuck out to me as strange because on instagram she always says how much she loves "hot husband"; that to say how annoying he was to her doesn't seem to fit the same narrative.
Wellmania (2023)
I wanted to like it. But I didn't.
Sorry Celeste! I really wanted to like this. I love Celeste's humor in general.
But this was a very obnoxious show. Olivia was highly annoying & too old to be going through the problems she does.
It's just so cringey that someone in their late 30s/early 40s (??) is such a whiney & self-centered mess that still needs to get their act together. She's constantly messing up her life and others and I just found it unbearable to not see any progress at all!
It also bothered me how self destructive she is. Like, it made me want to drink one million green juices and go for a jog because I was getting unhealthy by proxy.
Firefly Lane (2021)
It has potential but it failed a lot
Ugh. Where do I start?
The only likable and good actors characters were the girls who played teen Tully & Kate. I would have loved to see more of them. Perhaps it is because I loved the 70s aesthetic. But also I preferred those girls over Heigl & Chalke. Especially when it came to the college years & early reporting days. It was so cringe to see 40-somethings acting like 20 year olds. Like, seriously off putting. I don't want to see 40 year olds pretending to be young and starting their careers- it was so weird. From the acting to the horrible wigs!! Horrible horrible wigs...And makeup....and clothes...and sets. None of it believable.
And I really wanted to feel a connection between Heigl and Chalke, but I didn't. They were both so bland.
Chemistry between Heigl and Chalke was not even comparable to the young girls. I could totally believe the love they had for each other as teens. But that was sorely missing from the adult acting.
Ugh and can I just mention the wigs again? Horrendous. Johnny looked like a drowned rat the whole time. Clouds' was equally bad and it looked like they just drew lines on her face, like a school play would, to make her appear older. Not to mention Cloud and Tully don't even look possibly relayed. Marah and Johnny and Kate ...nothing alike....
Sorry my rant is a bit choppy - like the show. But it was just so bad!!! It could've been so much better.
Also, eff off to the 20 ppl who disagree with my review. You're dumb.
