The Color Purple (2023)
Not as good as the first.
Yes everything about this movie was professional from the filming to the quality of acting. I thought the music and settings were brilliant. Everything was too good. I preferred the original as it was more rustic and relevant to the story. The quality of singing and music was of high standard as was the choreography. There was something about Whoopie and the old cast that made it something special. I did not feel my emotions as much as the first and put this down to having more music and dancing scenes. I did find the newer version had a little bit of comedy there sprinkled through it. A very good movie but I did prefer the original.
Bring Him Back Dead (2022)
Louis Mandylore.....really????
A cliche low budget film with low budget actors. The credibility of this movie went out the window from the start. The only way to ruin a simple script is with B grade actors trying to play tough guys. I thought actors improved with age but Louis Mandylore sure proved that wrong. His shirt goes from sweat lathered to brand new throughout the movie, he plays a tough criminal who can barely bend over to tie his shoelaces. I do not know how this made it past the first viewing. It appeared they wrote the script as they went along. The entire crew wouldn't have $2 between them but still can organise diamond heists. There are actors and there are people who think they are. Unfortunately this movie contains the latter. I recommend this movie to watch around 5am in the morning.
NCIS: Sydney (2023)
Garbage
I was excited to watch this but the poor casting and lame story line soon changed that. It was like watching a Saturday morning kids drama. The competitive banter between aussie culture and American is annoying. Todd Lasance is not alone bringing this show down. Shootouts at Garden Island with fake navy staff with plastic machine gubs just doesn't cut it these day. I would have thought after the success Australia has had with Underbelly, Tourist, Bloom and many others that these type of shows would be a thing of the past. I have never watched an episode of any of the overseas CSI programs and after watching this one I don't think I will bother. You have to be bored to watch this.
The Backpacker (2011)
Yeah nah.
If you can get past the opening scene with the locals then you can get through the rest. The locals playing pool top the ham awards for me. The movie was watchable but only just. When you shoot a movie in rural Australia you have nothing to rely on but the script and the actors. The scenery was okay but you have to question why these people are there to start with, especially an educated ex vet who can't even organise transport to their destination. I don't think it would have taken the actors long to learn their lines because there wasn't that many of them with the scenes drawn out a little bit long without conversation. The script was there but it was hard to swallow. A decent director could have made it better.
