The Diary of Paulina P. (2023)
OK, but nothing special
"The Diary of Paulina P." is an okay and watchable film, but lacks uniqueness. It's vibrant and attempts to be dynamic, yet it doesn't particularly evoke humor or charm. The acting is average, and the characters are unremarkable and not very engaging or interesting. As always, the book is superior. Overall, the film lacks a certain spark and fails to fully engage the audience.
The film addresses kids' "realistic" issues at school, such as first crushes, school (un)success, and the arrival of a new student ("It was hate at first sight!"), as well as family dynamics (the desire for parental reconciliation). However, it primarily focuses on the clever princess whose hobby is daydreaming, so in her mind, almost anything is possible.
Despite its moments, it ultimately fails to leave a lasting impression. Last year's "How I Learn to Flay," a family film directed by Serbian filmmaker Radivoje Andric, is significantly superior.
