Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Confusing for someone who isn't invested into the spiderman story
I have to admit I've only seen the 'Home' Spiderman's with Tom Holland. And I loved those one's. I did completely skipped the first movie of this version. With that being said, I didn't enjoy this movie. Don't get me wrong, the visuals are pure gold but the storyline just wasn't interested.
I was completely lost. There wasn't enough context given to a new viewer, which made it boring.
I'm still scratching my head on why this movie is so highly ranked. It didn't even have a true ending. This is the first movie I've ever spent time on that didn't end. Would I watch the next continuation? No. I almost walked out on this one.
American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing (2023)
Informative and Entertaining
Wow! This is definitely one of my top five favorite true-crime documentaries. The directors definitely know how to keep you on the edge of your seat. I didn't know how they'd be able to expand this story into three episodes but it was done very well. They had access to so much footage not only from the day of the event but even during the day's long manhunt. Things I didn't even know happened were revealed. The amount of interviewees they had gave you a perspective at almost every angle. Nobody was excluded from telling their story no matter how they felt. They even had a friend of one of the bombers who expressed concern over his friend's death. While controversial, including this goes to show how real and raw the documentary is.
One thing that I didn't like was how Muslims and Arabs were portrayed. Although it seems unintentional, it definitely makes all Muslims and Arabs look bad. They compare this tragedy to others like 9-11. They also include how he was raised in a Muslims family which suggested that's what led him to these terrible events.
