Time Is Up (2021)
Love Bella Thorne!
I watch every movie I find that has her name on the cast! She is a great actress and takes her work seriously.
I really enhoyed this movie until three qarters of the way through, when 'Roy's" accent got as overdone as it cold be and so obvious that I lost all interest in the movie. It just became more and more prononced and I couldn't ignore it anymore!
Overall a nice little movie but the horrible reappearing accent ruined it for me!
Bad Kids Go to Hell (2012)
Great Movie!
This was a great little movie and I had a lot of fun watching it.
The storyline is strong with several twists and turns that you may not see coming! The acting is good and the sets were nicely done.
Throw yourself in there and enjoy it! Perfect way to spend an afternoon!
Blame (2021)
Boring-ish...
It seemed like a good movie to watch on a quiet afternoon and although it was slightly entertaining, it came up short on the acting ability and storyline.
The acting on the part of everyone seemed flat and dry and so doesn't instill much interest in the viewer. The storyline is the same old same old and nothing new at all.
My biggest question in all of this is, if the one girl had to pee, why did she go outside, in a snowstorm, in the dark, in an area she didn't know. Wouldn't a school building, even if abandoned, have toilets in it?
The United States of Horror: Chapter 1 (2021)
So Disappointing!
I'm always happy to see an anthology come out and looked forward to seeing this one.
Unfortunately, although several stories are offered they are are little blips of non-information, no tale, no character and not worth the watch Every story is a non-story, quick like flashes of memory but senseless and because so little info is offered you're left with an unfinished movie. No scares or build up, just meh...
Ouijageist (2018)
What?
This is sooooo bad it will absolutely stun you! At one point I looked away for mere seconds and when I looked again, I thought another movie had started. Totally disjointed and full of unrelated storylines, you may continue to watch out of pure befuddlement but there are a hundred places in this movie you may want to turn it off at.
I admit to watching it all, but in a different kind of horror.....
21 Days (2014)
Entertaining.
Not a bad movie really! I would have scored it at 8 except for one thing. The screeching from the female character, almost constant for the last thirty or forty minutes, is headache-inducing and does not instill any fear or empathy in the viewer for that character. Since the high pitched squealing was used for both screaming in fear and "talking" and it is entirely too much.
As a whole, the plot is the usual horror movie stuff, ghosts, blood, demons, and death, but there is enough difference to avoid boredom and those differences make it an entertaining film/
Well worth a watch!
Familiars (2021)
Horrible
This movie is SO bad in EVERY way that I won't acknowledge that I've seen it, even if I worked on it myself.
A Haunting in Saginaw, Michigan (2013)
Save Your Sanity,
I knew what to expect going in...a YouTube type of paranormal ghost hunting video with a couple of serious sounding men and a ton of missed noises, knocks, taps and voices. I wasn't expecting such an annoyance of acting and sound effects however, and there were so bad and soooo annoying that I couldn't watch this with sound on, just captions!
There is a wee bit of music used for atmosphere, but it's grossly atonal and horrid. They use what sounds like a gun shot between scenes though and THAT is far too much, given the frequency of scene changes and the volume here It completely removes your interest in the entire movie. In fact, all sound effects of this type will drive you crazy. Riding the remote and trying to hit volume when you think these noises are coming doesn't work...Ya gotta be FAST!!
Terrible actors speak in monotones and I notice this more often in females so I wasn't surprised to hear it from all of the female characters but I laughed out loud at the Mother when she was speaking to the camera about things that had been happening. In an effort to sound casual, she says 'Um'...a lot...EVERY FOURTH WORD ALOT!!!! At that point I gave up watching, it had become absolutely unbearable.
I gave it a far too generous 1/10.
Abandoned (2010)
Meh
I stumbled across this Brittany Murphy film that I have somehow managed to miss and was excited to see it. During the entire movie though I kept getting hooked on things that distracted from the plot.
Brittany Murphy looks horrible in this film and I don't know why they couldn't have done better by her. Her hair looks filthy, greasy and dead. The make up she wears doesn't cover the bags under her eyes, and her lipstick seems to bleed into the corners of her mouth. Additionally, her eyebrows are so caked in foundation make up that you can't miss it.
The plot is not bad, a fairly good thriller with the requisite twists and turns although no research seems to have been done on the workings of a hospital OR how anti-depressants work.
All told, although the idea of the plot was alright, and the acting wasn't bad the rest of it was sloppy, and a bit insulting.
Tales From The Dark (2013)
Exceptionally Dull.
I was excited to see this listed as an anthology series because I love this format, but it is the only thing I liked.
This series is shot in black and white, on sets that are boring and minimal, with stories that are supposed to have twists that are immediately seen before you get halfway through the episode.
The acting is horrific, the type of stuff you see in acting classes for teenagers, where the 'actors' are told to ad lib and spend their time repeating lines and talking over one another.
Although there is an attempt to deal with racism in one episode the entire thing is so formulaic that there is nothing impressive there... or anywhere.
Don't waste your time. There are TONS of good anthologies out there, this is NOT one of them!
Spirits in the Dark (2020)
NOPE
Relentlessly boring and nonsensical, absolutely predictable...That's what makes this drek a horror movie.
Scare Package (2019)
Too bad we can't give 0/10
What an absolute waste of time! This movie is the worst I think anyone will ever see. Horrible script, wooden actors. gore for no reason, lousy set choices...I dropped out at 20 minutes, 19 longer than I should have...
The Luring (2019)
No really, it HAS been done before...and before that...and before that...amf before...
Same old same old here, with a killer who forgets it all and years later has a need to remember it again.
It has the spoiled egocentric easily persuaded and self righteous boyfriend and his pretty but dull girl friend who is treated as disposable There is the hot 'other' woman who seemingly wants to enslave the main character and does it by treating him like HE's disposable and because this is a low B movie, there is a character here or there with no meaningful parts that are probably related to someone in the higher ups who wants to "try" acting.
Goes along about as fast as these things usually do and its entertaining in that way as well. 2/10
Angel of Decay (2016)
Poor casting choice
Ted Bundy was a very good looking man who looked the part of a clean cut American college student. He was very manipulative and charismatic. In short, absolutely NOT even close to what they had in mind when casting the role. The actor certainly doesn't look the part, acts nervous and twitchy in most of his scenes and I can not see Bundy's victims being charmed amd maniputed by a weasely Ted Bundy. That casting kept me removed from the movie, couldn't get into it.
The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson (2019)
Spectacularly BAD!
Well, my first thought was that someone was trying to make up an unknown intruder scenario in the deaths OJ was charged for, in an effort to demonstrate how 'anyone could have done it' because that is really the direction we were going in.
Then they tried a different tack in creating yet another far fetched and ridiculous theory that came from so far out of left field that I could only laugh and for a good twenty minutes.
The cast for this film isn't half bad but if the scripts tells them to say a line, they have to say it. Of course Manning will take any part because she can DO any part very very well, but Suvari has stated it is difficult to get work because of her Me Too admission about Harvey Weinstein, so that may explain her prescence in this sucker. A girl has to eat.
The worst part of this entire awful movie, is the reenactment of the murders in all that cinematic crimson glory. The film isn't good enough to deal with those scenes. They are included, but not worthy.
Save your time and your sensabilities and see something that doesn't totally fictionalize such a well known story.
Urban Fears (2019)
Is this a Joke????
I watched the first "story" thinking it must be part of a bigger story because it was so juvenile. Nope, turns out that that "seven year old holding momma's phone to make a cute little film" IS the movie and although DEFINITELY filmed by a small child, the movie itself is NOT cute, NOT ANYTHING!! HAS TO BE A JOKE. A bad one, but this can't be a serious contender for anything else.
Assimilate (2019)
Great Movie!
I loved this movie! Great storyline, awesome acting, action and horror handled well.
The Dead Center (2018)
Never Judge a Film by its Budget.
Sure it obviously had next to no money for spectacular stunts, lush sets and exotic exteriors, but those things weren't needed here. The story was good and creepy, the acting was awesome, and it is an enjoyable film. Worth a watch.
Blackwood Evil (2000)
Shrill
Women whose voices become shriller each time they raise their them should never be cast in a movie like this. With all the high voices and repetitive words AND the moaning the reporter continually does, it will remind people of one of those dreadful holiday dinners where all the family attends just so they can pick on that one weak person who gets upset easily.
There is no continuity in the story and the acting is horrifyingly bad but the worst part is trying to understand what all the squealing is about.
Good luck with that...
My Soul to Keep (2019)
A Movie for All Ages.....accidently.
The story prior to the ending is basically a child's horror movie, but some things, including the ending are adult themed! Wouldn't recommend it for either group. The six stars I gave it are for the younger child actors who all did a great job.
Possession Diaries (2019)
oh goody...
After you watch what is almost a full six minutes of opening credits interspersed with scenes of the most HORRIFIC acting I have ever seen, you are then subjected to another almost two hours of that same blond whiny girl with the flat voice and obviously phony crying and her bedroom. That is, if you're like me and feel like every movie you watch you must watch all the way through....I gotta quit doing that.
Paranormal Highway (2017)
A "P" Movie...
As in piss-poor. Bad acting, bad sets, bad story-line, bad everything, AND too bad I subjected myself to watching this thing. Save yourself the bother!
Astral (2018)
Promising..for five minutes...
Really well done opening scenes, lots of atmosphere and quiet horror, but after that? DOWNHILL.
It would have been such a good film had they stuck to the Astral projection story line, but they throw in a girl who has absolutely no chemistry with the lead character, and that's almost the final straw.
Overall fairly dull, seemed low budget, acting is mediocre ( by everyone with a role), no real horror, although a few of the ever popular jump scares, and worst of all? An ending that is completely and utterly ridiculous.
Save yourself some time and skip it!
Night School (2018)
Unable to overlook the very obvious...
Casting older actors in younger roles is par for the course in the movie business, but sticking short, mouthy and 39 year old Keven Hart in the role of a teenager is such a horrible casting decision that I could not get past the beginning of the film. This man will be FORTY in the summer of 2019 and nothing is done to make him look younger for the first few scenes and so we are treated to Kevin Hart acting like an idiot. Not good. He is such a glaring mismatch that even the promise of Tiffany Haddish in the rest of the movie couldn't force me to stay.
Crimson Peak (2015)
An Absolutely Beautiful Film!
I avoided seeing this movie, because although I am the biggest fan of the horror genre, I am not a fan of romance movies.
It's a good thing I watched it anyway!
I had heard that Tom Huddleston, Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver did great work in their assigned roles, but I was still surprised at their talent. For Beaver and Hunnam, their roles were not in keeping with others I had seen them in, but as real talent does they became the characters and were believable.
Jim Beaver's gruff and disparaging Cushing is a sympathetic character in his love for his daughter and his protection of her, but when those things are in motion, as in his dealings with Sir Sharp, he is despicable and cruel.
Unfamiliar with Huddleston, I found his facial expressions dead on and his gentleness with Edith very touching and yet creepy, given the storyline. Most people who see him in this role will become Fans!
Charlie Hunnam, out of the deadly biker character I only knew him for, plays a bland character, quiet, smart, but not exciting. His looks, costume and speech are well done and I didn't recognize him at first. Probably a difficult role and well done.
The lead female roles are also well acted and cast. No one else could have given the role of Edith the vulnerability and naivety that Mia Wasikowska does, and by pitting that character against the dark and insane Lucille (played by Jessica Chastain) there is a classic good vs evil situation that you don't want to miss.
I was astounded at the beauty of the costumes used throughout. The rich fabrics and embellishments on the women's gowns and coats are breathtaking and put you right in the middle of the century in which the movie takes place. The male costumes are done equally well, although not as pretty!
Any one unfamiliar with the great work of Guillermo del Toro will want to see more of it after seeing Crimson Peak.
Finally, the sets. With an overall feeling of darkness and foreboding, they are all very well done. The creepy house in which the Sharp's reside, filled with large and heavy furniture, fabrics and lighting, contribute greatly to the overall theme of the movie. The different rooms are designed to clearly be different spaces that cause different emotions and memories to arise.
Don't miss it, worth the time.
