Reacher: In a Tree (2022)
im noticing some flaws (still cool tho) lol hahah hehehe
Reacher is obviously a good ass show with tons of positive traits, but I'm slowly beginning to witness some flaws within the show which are a bit annoying on my part but don't harm the overall experience. The show tries to continue its breakneck pace, however in this episode there are many scenes that send the pacing tumbling backwards such as the myriad of flashback moments about Reacher. I like hearing about the guy but not in the middle of such an intense story and at such random times. The most egregious example of this is when Officer Roscoe and Reacher are at the motel. Reacher starts off the scene by being his usual calculated and careful self, but then the scene starts to become more emotional with Reacher getting to experience brief amount of grief about the death of his brother. This segment is truly wonderful to witness, as we get to see the genuine pain in Reacher's eyes without seeing a straight up breakdown, which was pretty cool. However, this awesome scene is led up with pure confusion as while Reacher is taking a shower and contemplating his loss, staring at the ground with feelings of utter despair, ROSCOE COMES IN THE SHOWER AND A SEX SCENE STARTS!?!?!? When this part happened I jumped out of my seat, but to make things worse, this scene is just so gross out of context. The man is grieving the death of his brother, is this really the time to start having the urge to start "getting it on?" Then there's the fight scene towards the second half of the episode where Reacher sorta acts like an idiot in this fight scene. The guys are shooting at him, and he has a gun, and he runs away instead of shooting. Then, after shooting, he continues to run just like when he had bullets in the first place. All the fight scenes we have seen with him have been extremely intense and simple, yet complex from the mind of Reacher. This felt like more of a mad dash to the finish line in which the main character was a crazy man who knew how to fight (but was really bad at it). The worst part is that this resulted in Reacher fighting someone who he should have easily beaten, but then he knocks this guy out, causing the guy's gun to drop onto the floor. Instead of immediately going for it like he would do, or plan an attack before that would get the gun dropped towards him, the bad guy is able to grab the gun back and point it at Reacher, basically making him a dead man before Roscoe can pull up and shoot him in the head. Reacher could have easily dealt with that, remember the scene with the 6 or 7 guys in jail? HE DIDN'T HAVE A GUN! HE ONLY USED HIS BARE HANDS AND HIS ENVIRONMENT!!! And then after this, it results in some forced drama between Reacher and Roscoe about how Reacher wanted to take on the action for himself and wanted him to get hurt so Roscoe didn't???!??! What!?!??!!? The goal is to get the job done! What is Reacher on about? He barely knows this girl and now he cares for her like they have been dating for years? I'm so confused. This is not the Reacher I was coming to understand so far. Of course the acting is still amazing, especially from the corrupt mayor, Roscoe, and Reacher. ALSO, I complained about the flashbacks, but they weren't anywhere near as annoying as those two moments I just mentioned. OH, and another thing to address, people are complaining on these reviews about the black girl helping Reacher being some kind of woke woman trying to fulfill some sort of agenda. !??!?!? This scene wasn't even five minutes, why are people making such a big deal about this? Anyways, I did give this an overall positive score, so I have to mention a couple of awesome factors here. The ending scene is brutal and really awesome, showing that the threat is far ahead of them but also more intelligent than they think, and the beginning scene where Reacher explains his Baghdad past was super intense as well. Oh, and Finlay is beginning to become my favorite character on the show here, in which people are being racist or hindering his officer position straight to his face and its super cool seeing the conflict arise from this as he consistently attempts to steer towards the legal side of things while he keeps getting pushed over and over again. He has a strong moral side to him and I respect that. I know I complained a lot, but this episode was still quite enjoyable, and despite my annoyance of that random sex scene, it was quite funny-I will admit that.
Reacher: Spoonful (2022)
suspenseful episode just like fortnite
When halfway through the episode we got Reacher coming in and strangling some poor fat old lawyer with a telephone cord you know the episode is going to be good. Scene after scene of intense dialogue and plot developments, as well as some pretty cool in depth looks at Officer Finlay. He definitely shined in this episode, displaying the problems with his stance on staying with the moral side of the law but also the positives, as he achieves wins and losses in this episode. With the cliffhanger from last ep, I expected this episode to deliver max intensity, and it definitely paid off here. With the lower episode rating I thought it would get way more boring, but things are only getting more intense and Alan Ritchson's performance as Reacher is incredibly addicting.
Six Feet Under: An Open Book (2001)
creepy episode brenda makes me pee my pants
Easily the worst episode of all time. Haha, just kidding, its actually not that bad, in fact I still enjoyed this segment but it did drag on a fair bit in the beginning. At first I thought this was going to be another development episode focusing on stuff like the conflict between the mother & daughter relationship / Nate & Brenda relationship but halfway through the episode things get exponentially better when the Nate & Brenda relationship gets extremely creepy & strange with the parents being absolute weirdos and Brenda herself apparently being some kind of evil genius sorta who may or may not have bad intentions. The acting was really doing its job here, however I'm still trying very hard to attempt to care for the girl (redhead sister of Nate). Her acting is super good, but I still don't really pay attention to her in the show. She almost feels kinda pointless. Not to insult her existence ya know that would be mean. Oh, and the David & Keith plot is getting more tumultuous and I haven't really gotten to much into the gay aspects of this show but I appreciate how deep they delve into these gay characters while giving them extra attributes and also not overly sexualizing or simplifying them. Pretty cool stuff. Hope Keith is okay though he had a big screamy moment.
Six Feet Under: Familia (2001)
cool representation of gangster stuff i guess maybe i'm not a gangster lol
I like how this is similar to the last episode where it was collectively centered around one main theme, with some sub plots to switch it up. The last episode was all about that stinky poop foot, but this time its way more serious, and almost gets to the level of the greatness from the pilot. It revolves around this gangster dude that dies, and the conflict centered around how the funeral takes place. The pacing was AMAZING was the episode was flying by and the past episodes had these moments that dragged just a bit, yet this one had none. Every moment was necessary and enthralling, and that ending prayer circle was beautiful. GOD, I love the conclusions to these episodes they are so beautiful and they make me eternally joyful.
Reacher: First Dance (2022)
not as good as the pilot, but still important
I appreciate that they are continuing the story with this episode, and further developments are being made to make the whole conspiracy town plot more intricate and intense. I was really surprised when they pulled out that insanely brutal scene that also contained graphic nudity and castration. In a show where a lot of the enjoyment is out of the calming dialogue and interesting back and forth chemistry between the characters, it was very out of place, but I didn't mind it too much. I love it when shows get disturbing out of nowhere in order to remind you of the true stakes of the story. This isn't some little hike through the woods, people are dying and families are being shredded apart, and things are getting serious. Nice episode. Very cute.
Reacher: Welcome to Margrave (2022)
another great pilot wowza
Like other people, I remember seeing the Reacher movies and such, but I don't recall much about the series. The memories mostly come from a big strong man beating up people and being good at it, basically like any other action hero. Tom Cruise was the one doing this, and being the awesome action star he is, I'm sure he was good at it, I need to revisit those movies for sure. However, this show appears to be leagues better than those movies in every way. The main protagonist is doing a fantastic job playing Reacher, maintaining this strong-minded and witty attitude while also being extremely chill. It is pretty refreshing to witness a hardened killer who just wants to relax and desires to avoid violence at all costs. Sure, he'll resort to it, but that's not what he wants. It seems that this murder plot might tie into the story the more I watch this season, and its probably gonna get deeper into conspiracy territory with an evil town family and spooky murders and stuff. This isn't something completely original, but the execution was quite nice. I like the old timey music being thrown into the mix, adds a nice authentic feel, and the fight scenes were 10/10 for literally no reason. Another thing I appreciate was that this really felt like an extended movie rather than just a TV SHOW, similar to another series I'm watching, Six Feet Under. It seems like the best ones have that in common. Anyways, I'm looking forward to future developments in the plot and stuff, what a great episode!
Six Feet Under: The Foot (2001)
foot time
This episode is much better than the last, but only in terms of enjoyment not much in quality. This is mostly because "The Will" was a development episode that was drowning in depressingness and this episode is just completely off the rails. It literally starts with some dude being hacked up like sushi and the comedy kind of goes off from there with trying to recover and reassemble this dude's mangled body. It's awful to even think about someone getting messed up like that, but the way they go about trying to set up a funeral for this man is so funny. Like how they promise the family that he will be back to normal, but you can tell their obvious nervousness as to whether or not its even possible. Then. There's the lost foot situation. Which is even more absurd, because the annoying girl takes it to prank this dude who broke her heart. I appreciate that this episode felt less like a train of emotions and instead like one central conflict that everyone was trying to solve. I feel like its only gonna get more absurd from here, oh my days.
Six Feet Under: The Will (2001)
not as good as the start but still pretty nice
The acting is still absolutely fantastic, no doubt about it, but the plot isn't as intense or emotional as the previous episode for sure. We are still leaning back on the death of the father, and I'm sure we are going to get some more flashbacks and hallucinations with him throughout the rest of this season. Am I annoyed by this? Not really, but I do hope some other conflicts arise that keep me invested into this show. This episode, titled: "The Will" is all about the conflicting consequences that come from the money and ownership of the property and wealth (via the father). It makes sense that we are still focusing on his death, since its fresh in their minds still, but I hope the plot gets more and more deeper as we continue to understand these characters. Highlights include: the ending (again) where David finally grieves over the death of his father and that's kind of it. Most of the episode is just development for future plot points I feel like, and some of these I care about less than others. This includes the teenage girl and that obviously lame guy which I couldn't care less about, or the relationship between Nate and the (cheating?) wife that he is banging. I did miss a lot of the Black Comedy from the last episode, because to be honest, a lot of this runtime was just so damn depressing, but hey-sometimes we need a little sadness in our lives. Solid episode for sure.
Six Feet Under: Pilot (2001)
Very Solid Pilot
I've seen a lot of TV Shows that deal with death at this point, and this series is definitely something else when it comes to addressing the intensity of loss and despair. I mean, growing up in funeral business is kind of traumatizing, and there were many absurd scenes in this episode that I wouldn't even imagine, but occurred anyways (and seemed logical in the situation. I'm referring to when the Dad gives the kid gloves to touch dead bodies or different ways the family grieves someone dying despite dealing with death constantly. Big highlights include the funny ads, the amazing song accompanied with the ending scene, and the spectacular acting between damn near everyone. Definitely not 10/10 material, but an amazing start to a show that really hooked me in and has me excited for what is to come.
