The Double (2013)
This movie "doesn't make any sense"
While making a lot of sense.
If you're a shy, or introvert guy, this movie is very relatable. In the movie itself, events are purposely very emphasised, or exaggerated. It tackles subjects like: Not being able to communicate with girls properly, coworkers stealing credit and getting promotions, being misunderstood, being stamped negatively etc.
The Japanese songs are probably also used like the rest of the movie is used. As a tribute, as something slightly comedic. But also as something to reel in, and try to convey the important message to not just western introverts, but the many introvert men that Japan is known for.
Take a leap. No pun intended.
Take control of your destiny.
Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers (2020)
Not animal friendly
Forces you to cook / be responsible for the death of animals at one point during the game. You can not continue otherwise. The original persona 5 had vegetarian friendly options in restaurants. Why add veggie options to a game, then make an expansion, and then force everyone playing that expansion to do something non vegetarian / vegan.
Malignant (2021)
The second half of the movie improves significantly
The first half of the movie seemed to have a kinda cringe script and unnecessary stuff some times. And seemingly unnecessary additions in the form of electricity. But after the first half of the movie, more is revealed. And I assume the writers found it necessary to have that electricity thing in to explain some stuff. Anyways. The second half of the movie improves significantly. And gets more entertaining. Was worth getting through the first half. Don't expect typical horror though.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016)
Loved it
Loved the movie. You know what to expect when you enter it. And that's exactly what you get. My type of humor. I consider myself a guy guy, but I approve and applaud the message about sexism. Decently delivered. 1 star for making fun of dead animals.
Father Christmas Is Back (2021)
When will the suffering end?
Once again food free of animals and climate change, aka vegan preferences is portrayed as an annoyance. Luckily some of Hollywood is waking up to the fact that this not only causes terrible suffering for animals, and the future of our children. But also forces actors to portray an injustice to something they stand for with their whole being. I know not if this particular actor is vegan, but I know of many others. The movie itself was also not great, but also not boring I suppose.
Merlin: The Wicked Day (2011)
Beyond frustrating and infuriating
Details about this episode. Like for example Gaius not mentioning a certain thing publicly. And the resulting consequences, were beyond frustrating and infuriating. Has this TV show not frustrated the viewers enough? Some may argue it builds for future shenanigans, and potential satisfaction / relief. But it could have been done slightly differently. Anything but this way.
Ragnarok (2020)
-3 stars for dairy advertisement
Entertaining series, likeable characters, noble statement about the environment, protesting, and rebelling against extinction, and evil companies. But then they go ahead and show a scene with a clear logo of a dairy company in Norway. I can only assume they got paid for it.
Talking about evil companies. Dairy and animal consumption companies are actually responsible for more pollution, extinction, and suffering than fossil fuel transport is. So imagine my surprise. They might as well have put a diesel car advertisement in the actual show instead of the dairy. The creators must know this. Did they think no one would notice?
American Pie Presents: Girls' Rules (2020)
I don't know what people are whining about
Sure it's not a typical American Pie movie. Cus they're girls. I welcome equality so I have no problems with this movie. It was about time the girls had a turn. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Just from the title and cover, I knew what I was getting into. It was entertaining enough. As a guy I approve this American Pie movie 👌
Planet of the Humans (2019)
Michael Moore seems to have sold his soul
Once the fighter of justice. He now seems to have sold his soul to the evil that is fossil fuel. And talk about the devil; the only solution he offers up is the old anti-sustainability, unviable, perfect, scapegoat, of population reduction. You know... The one the fossil fuel CEOs have been paying Internet trolls to spread like the plague. Is Trump a producer? Faith lost in humanity.
Her (2013)
Great movie. But the director/writer made a vegan activist order "cheese"
This was a great movie. But I didn't like the fact that the director/writer Spike Jonze made a vegan activist (Joaquin Phoenix) order cheese at a food stand. Veggie based food tastes equally good, is healthier, more environmentally friendly, more animal friendly, safer, and is easier for farmers to produce.
21 Jump Street (2012)
This was a pretty good movie. Until you realize
At first. When this movie mentions sustainability. You'd think its actually for it. But in the end the mocking becomes clear. When veganism is mentioned in a mocking manner.
Apparently caring for our successors isn't manly enough. We must continue eradicating biodiversity by another 50%? And another degree or two of global warming? As if the devastating effects we are already experiencing are not enough. Let's burn more rainforest while we're at it. To make feed for our cows. Instead of eating beyond meat burgers for ourselves. (Yes its made of the same thing. Just much much less of it is wasted)
Wu Assassins (2019)
Decent show that was entertaining, up until the meat propaganda showed up.
This show was pretty entertaining. The main character is the famous guy from The Raid. He's pretty awesome. There are also other familiar faces. The script however suffers from cliches and a feeling of being rushed. Would have given it a much higher rating without a specific incident. In episode 7 they made a guy wear a "Don't mess with breakfast" picturing pig and eggs.
This comes across as an attempt to counteract the change that is happening within the food world. People realizing they don't need to eat animals. And that animal-free food is equally good, healthier, makes life easier for the farmers, safer, more environmentally friendly, and more animal friendly.
In fact, eating animals is extremely destructive to both climate and nature. Even more so than coal or oil. It's the single largest reason responsible for releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and for eradicating 60% of all animal species compared to just the 1970.
With all the green protein options that exist today, there is simply no reason to continue eating animals.
George of the Jungle (1997)
It may be a bit cheesy, but the rest is so damn well made!
If you can get past a couple of cheap toilet humor parts, the rest of this movie is so well made. It's like a masterpiece really. Not even all the toilet humor parts are bad. It's a classic. Just keep up with the fast pace and finish it, and you'll be a fan forever.
Preacher (2016)
Great wild ride
This TV show is wild. (Even though some other reviewer is claiming it is tame compared to the comic books)
It's raunchy, gory, has supernatural elements, and packs some action. My favorite kind of TV show. The only thing I didn't like about it, was the apparent yolo "Burn through" your fuel and possessions. And also the meat fixation. Having a wild time can be done without advocating un-sustainability. This is especially important in TV shows and movies, where most people are impressionable.
For now we only have one planet. Unless we start taking care of it, we won't see any other planets! You can say: "I won't live that long" or "Humans are a disease anyways so why bother". But if you did you would be lying to yourself. You do care about legacy. Caring about the future is caring about your own interests. You don't want people watching this amazing TV-show from Mars, and eating Mars- grown Popcorn? Start caring!
Once Upon a Time: Ruby Slippers (2016)
This episode may be frowned upon by "traditional" people
I think it's daring of Once Upon a Time, to include true love between two people of the same gender. Considering that the fans of this show is probably comprised mostly of people who like the classic tales of princesses and princes. Not to mention it's a show for the whole family.
I think this makes it vulnerable to heated opinions. As is show in the other reviews of this episode. But in this day and age it's becoming increasingly normal to show this kind of thing. And I think it's a good thing.
Personally I am not an advocate for, or advocate against same sex couples and marriages. I am a person attracted to the opposite sex. I am not used to seeing for example two men kiss. Because it does not happen wherever I spend my time.
I think it's unfair for people who like the same sex, that they should have to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable kissing in public. I hope one day it is considered so normal, that it is not frowned upon.
Scary Movie 5 (2013)
The disappointing breaking point
The poisonous humor of the Scary Movie spin-offs has seeped into the Scary Movie franchise and destroyed it from within. Epic Movie and Disaster Movie are the worst of the spin-offs and this one is pushing the limits of being grouped in the same category. I found Scary Movie 1 and 2 hilarious. Scary Movie 3 and 4 were also funny. When I heard about this I had hopes and doubts. Unfortunately it turned out like the bad spin-offs. Date Movie was OK... This one was not. I prefer A Haunted House over this one.
I hoped that the days of the Scary Movies were not over. But after 4 years now it seems more likely that this fifth movie killed the Scary Movie franchise.
Still it's not as bad as Epic Movie and Disaster Movie. I think. It's hard to compare bad movies. And I don't really have the need. I did however, have the need to share my distinction between Scary Movie 1-4 and 5.
Bottom line is: IT'S NOT THE SAME AS THE OTHERS! And it most likely spelled the end of the franchise. Which is sad and disappointing. Even though we will always have the memorable and hilarious quadrilogy before this one. The other movies had some lame sections which were survivable. But this whole movie is a lame section. I'm putting all my hopes in the new "A Haunted House" franchise. May it live long and prosper.
