Archie (2023)
Not bad-
It was definitely informational. Clearly Cary Grant's childhood was horrific and his father a monster. His poor mother! Those times (1911) where a man could commit his wife for 'hysteria' or 'mania'. His father could afford a whole new family but not enough food for them to eat or a doctor for a dying child. Who could survive this unscathed?
I have never said this about a film or a series before but the sound is dreadful- all the music is way too loud and all of the conversation and talk is too soft. Very disappointing. Jason Isaac is good, as always, but there's something missing. I was hoping for better.
Living (2022)
Very moving
A beautiful, elegiac film. Wonderfully staged, perfectly paced. About human transformation and legacy. I found some commonality with this and "The Banshees of Innisheren": What do we leave behind us on this earth?
Other themes: How do we face death and terminal illness? Opening our eyes to the joy of life and what we feel we should accomplish while here.
I was very affected and don't mind saying I cried several times. I'm sure I saw "Ikiru" the Kurosawa film it's based on- but now I think I will watch it again.
With a magnificent performance by Bill Nighy. And great supporting actors including Tom Burke, Alex Sharp and Aimee Lee Wood. Highly recommend.
