Six Weeks (1982)
Very underrated gem that needs to be on DVD!
I absolutely LOVE this movie. Is it a tear-jerker that will pull on your heartstrings? Yes. Is it a little manipulative with your emotions at times? Sure, but in this world of Lifetime movies that have totally screwed up the perception of how powerful an old-fashioned emotional love story can be, it is very easy to overlook this very well made little gem of a film.
The performances of the three leads are stellar and that vaults the story passed what could be complete dreck in lesser hands. Dudley Moore and Mary Tyler Moore give two of the best performances of their careers and it's sad that not too many people know about or remember this one. The young girl who played Mary Tyler Moore's daughter, Katherine Healy, only made this one film and was never heard from again. Too bad, since she showed quite a bit of promise. It would have been nice to see what she would have done after this. She was very mature for her age and I would love to know whatever happened to her.
I truly believe that if the powers that be see fit to one day release this on DVD, more people would give this film a chance. I hope that happens so that more people can experience what I have loved for many, many years. Plus I only have it on a very well-worn VHS tape and fear losing it forever if it were to ever break.
If You Could See What I Hear (1982)
Get this on DVD
I can't agree more with the other person commenting on this great movie. This is one of several great movies from the early 80's that I have on VHS but that are falling apart and need to find a new audience on DVD.
I just don't see what people wait for when they make those decisions about what to digitize and what to leave people waiting for.
This movie is all heart and is held together by the very underrated Marc Singer (yes, that Marc Singer of Beastmaster fame. I swear you make one bad choice and you are branded for life). Telling the true story of blind singer/entertainer Tom Sullivan, Singer brings him to stunning life with a memorable performance that far few were ever able to see.
Let's do what we can to get this great story on DVD for a new generation to enjoy.
Foolin' Around (1980)
What a crime!!
The fact that this little gem of a movie isn't on DVD in an age when every bad film ever made had met it's digital home is a crime against cinephiles everywhere. I loved this movie as a kid and still have it on VHS but it is very worn and needs to have a DVD upgrade very soon.
You have an all-star cast, a whip-smart script and one of the most underrated performances of Tony Randall's career. What more are you people waiting for.
If you get a chance and happen to come across a VHS copy at your local video store, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It is well worth your time, for Tony Randall if nothing else.
