South Park: Mysterion Rises (2010)
Mysterion Rises
It's a tongue in cheeks episode which makes light of several different topics: it eases on on the Captain Oversight part, references only once the "I'm sorry" CEO who keeps destroying the world and focuses more on Mysterion development act.
High point for me were when they show a drawn excerpt of Cartman the hero (visually and described as with his voice) just after he brutally attacked and clawed a little girl. Another one was Kenny's parents, their interaction with Mysterion and how they went to a dark evil group meeting simply regularly just for the free beers (which does ring true).
All in all a fun episode which keeps the story advancing.
Extraordinary (2023)
Atrocious main characters
This series starts of funny and light with odd situations, sex jokes and what could be a relatable situation.
The more it advances though the more horrible the main character turns out without apparent consequences or remorse.
By episode 4 we know she is more than willing to abuse any advantage she has to ridicule, diminish and humiliate her sister. She is a parasite to her friend, a cruel merciless bully when she can to her little step sister ... by episode 4 and it keeps getting worse.
She assaults people because she can (and apparently no one reacts except for some very mild words). I mean seriously there should be some kind of consequences for an out of shape idiot assaulting people at random.
I really liked the beginning but now I am considering stopping after the 6th episode, the main character is to hard to watch especially without the obvious and predictable consequences she should have faced.
Vaincre ou mourir (2022)
Dark times
French cinema tends to be the same theme over and over again. Here however it is a topic hardly ever mentioned and just for that it makes the film worth watching.
Now personally I found the first half of the film extremely hard to watch as we are shown the atrocities of the war, the barely armed peasants sent to be slaughtered by the 'hero' of the film. Then there is the counter attack where non fighters (elders, children and women) get slaughtered and we know it happened.
We mostly follow the side of the Vendeans at a time period called "the Terror" for how people in the same side would cut the heads off their former ally and now rivals, at a time revolutionaries were trying to fight most of Europe with under trained people through sheer numbers. Needless to say the resistance from the Vendeans was not appreciated and the 'solution' to it, as shown in the film, was brutal and merciless.
Be aware it is not a feel good film, it's about dark times and the film shows that well.
I strongly suggest people to watch the film to make their own opinions since many critics put it down for choosing a different topic or being done by a studio which is not vetted by established French studios.
