Christmas Festival of Ice (2017 TV Movie)
3/10
No need to carve out time for this one...
11 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is the second ice sculpture related movie we've seen from Hallmark and it hits about the same as the first. Emma is a small-town lawyer that doesn't wanna be a lawyer anymore: she wants to sculpt ice. I'm not really sure why she wants to sculpt ice AFTER SHE PASSES THE BAR EXAM, but she has a need for sleet.

Her mother, the angel, spends $10k to teach her daughter a lesson she already knew. That's not a lesson, that's a bad investment. The falling-in-love in this film happens off camera. All we know about the newly beloved is that they share the same hobby. There are other more enjoyable Hallmark movies that you should watch (including the first ice sculpture movie).

Marry Me at Christmas (2017 TV Movie)

Marry Me at Christmas...but I didn't say you can stay here
11 January 2023
It's Christmas in Homestead meets Christmas Bride except everyone is distractingly blonde. A movie star's sister wants to get married on her movie star brother's dime, so she decides to blissfully plan it as last minute as she can. Romance ensues between the movie star + wedding planner...I won't spoil the ending. But a wedding happens in the ugliest church we've ever seen.

Other things of note, for this being a Hallmark movie on my Christian values Hallmark channel, everyone seemed extremely turned on by each other. Here's my list of characters who seemed like they wanted some privacy with each other:

1. Johnny Blake + Maddy 2. Johnny Blake + his sister (???) 3. Johnny Blake + the entire population of Fool's Gold 4. Ginger Blake + Oliver 5. Gladys + her Polaroid camera 6. Maddy + ex-boyfriend + ex-fiancé.

Sincerely yours, The Mistletoe Secret.

A Rose for Christmas (2017 TV Movie)

Some Roses Have More Than A Few Thorns
10 January 2023
Such as: poor pacing, poor characters, and an uninteresting, very generic plot. There is also a clear setup for an interracial couple, which would've been a nice step towards inclusion. This is never paid off, and abandoned after one scene. These are just a few of my thorns.

Why does Andy have to be Andy? Why does Cliff need to speak Mandarin? Why can't we all just get along and make a cool float? The answer: North Lake Financial Group. We have studied 100+ hallmark movies, we see how this group has tormented parades over the years.

Overall, a disappointing end to the 2016 Countdown to Christmas and an overall disappointing year.

When DOES the heart call Christmas???
9 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We watched this movie without seeing any other episode of this television show. This is the review for you. We expected much more of an accessible, fun, family-focused film and instead all we got were Mounties abusing their power, a mayor under federal investigation, and a man who could not take constructive criticism about his eggs.

Our expert analysis has determined that having the When Calls The Heart Wikipedia page open is a must for viewing this film. And despite the five-star review, there are some good nuggets: a strong performance from Erin Krakow, a non-discrete Santa-morpher and his pooch that sell wares to the townpeople like he's a Pawn Star, and the sets are nice.

Our final note is: This movie can be hard to enjoy unless you watch it with 1.7x speed.
