The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
Why does everyone have Asperger's?
We are pulled in by this odd pair, trying to figure out what their relationship is. It's intriguing but that's as good as the movie gets. As soon as we find out how they are connected the movie becomes pretty bland.
Everyone in this movie speaks and acts like they have Asperger's. It was interesting at first to see them interact with a monotone voice and no filter but it starts to feel ridiculous the more the movie goes on. We never get any explanation as to why all the characters are so strange, they just are.
There are some edgy scenes and dialogue strewn about the movie just for shock value. Such as the mom acting dead for her husband's necrophelia fetish or the dad telling his 9 year old son about how he gave his dad a handjob.
The antagonist tells the father that his family will get sick and die unless he kills one of them. Okay, but how? Who knows. It wasn't poison so I'm left to believe that this kid can somehow influence these kids to think they are dying through the power of persuasion. The daughter is somehow still in love with him despite him actively killing her and her family. It's never explained why the mother never got symptoms.
The movie could be cut in half with all the unnecessary crap in it. Barely anything substantial happens until the very end. There is no mystery because they literally tell you the answer half an hour in. There is no tension because until the kids' eyes start bleeding you know no one is going to die.
I liked the way the family members started sucking up to the dad at the end. That brought some weight to the situation. The way he decided to choose who to kill at the end was ridiculous though. He could have fired 20 bullets before he shot one of them and even then he could hit them in a bad spot and cause unnecessary pain. Meanwhile his son is about to die and he is damaging his house for no reason. Could have just played Russian roulette.
The soundtrack was good for the most part but at times it got overzealous and annoying. The acting was good. It's a well made movie but it's not a good movie. Just fine.
Rubber (2010)
Very good but the kills are all the same
This isn't a laugh out loud movie but a humorous one. At the beginning of the movie you are basically told that everything that happens in the movie happens for no reason. So trying to assign some meaning to the nonsense is an act of futility. Normally, I would be against direct exposition like this but it was done very well in the film. It encourages you to just turn your brain off and enjoy the movie. I found myself thinking "why?" several times throughout the movie only to immediately answer myself with "no reason". Now, I can respect that to a degree but a film where everything happens for no reason can never be a 10/10 movie since it's kinda cheap.
The good:
The acting in this movie was surprisingly one of the best parts about it. Good soundtrack. Good cinematography. Humorous.
The bad:
No diversity in the kill scenes. Watching people's heads get blown up got old pretty fast.
They could have picked up the pace a bit because a lot of the shots are just the tire rolling.
The ending was pretty lame. It would have been fine it if they left it at the tricycle part but it kept on going and stopped at an awkward point.

Horrible story, decent atmosphere
I like what this movie was going for. A post apocalyptic world with mysterious dolls roaming around sounds cool. Unfortunately, the story completely blows.
In this world, the humans were at war with the machines and both sides seemingly were destroyed except for one lone robot the size of a shoe and the scientist that built the original robot that started the war. The original robot that created other robots was somehow deactivated but all it needed to be reactivated was a special button and a piece of a human soul. The scientist split his soul into 9 pieces and put them into dolls for some reason and gave one of them the button to reactivate the machine instead of just destroying it. Why 9 dolls? No reason. Why dolls at all? Why didn't he just do what he needed to do himself? No idea. All I know is if that button were destroyed to begin with there would be no need for any of this nonsense and there would be no movie.
It was entertaining enough and it had some decent action sequences but overall this movie is a joke. It's a kids' movie with dead bodies.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Embarrassing
Let's start with the bad. The acting sucked but I blame that more on the poor writing. The script was ridiculous and the story was even worse. The death scenes were lame as hell, I guess to keep it of-13. The only thing this movie has going for it is the costumes.
Now going into spoilers...
If you have followed the fnaf lore, as I have for some stupid reason, you will recognize most of the characters. They make you believe that we are following Micheal Afton and his sister who later turns into baby. He takes the security job, which makes no sense in the context of the movie btw, and Vanessa is introduced out of nowhere flirting hard. The animatronics only ever lightly attack Mike while he is sleeping and he doesn't even know they are alive until 3 nights of sleeping there. There is no classic fnaf gameplay moment to be had. Phone guy turns out to be afton who is also Vanessa's father who stabs her. I couldn't help but laugh at that scene. Mike is revealed to be Mike Schmidt which was pretty lame. I could go on about how bad this movie was but I'm done wasting my time on it. The timelines don't seem to match up with the games so I assume it's not canon. Fnaf lore has always kinda sucked anyway.
Scavengers Reign (2023)
Beautiful but far from perfect
I'll start with the good. The world is incredibly unique and complex, the visuals are incredible. The art style is great. The soundtrack is great as well as the voice acting. It was fun to watch the whole way through.
However, I have many issues with it. For one, all of the characters take being on an alien world extremely lightly. As in they touch everything without weighing the consequences and even if they get bit by an unknown creature it's no big deal. There are a lot of unrealistic scenes where there is no fall damage or a fight is drawn out to give the underdog the chance to win or escape. The animation was good though they did take shortcuts. The story was mediocre and so were the characters. The dialogue was poor. The villain was hard to believe which only made her annoying. And one of the characters has no redeeming qualities yet I'm supposed to believe he is married to a nice woman who left everything on earth to be with him.
Despite all that, I think everyone should watch it because it is a work of art that most people can appreciate.
Logan (2017)
So cool
The only problem I had with it was that Laura could drive, navigate, and shoot a gun when she had lived in a lab her entire life until now. It is unfortunate because it breaks the immersion, but I still think it deserves ten stars.
This is my type of movie, dark, emotional, gory, tragic. Even though it is a superhuman movie, everything about it feels real. Hugh Jackman killed this role. I can't imagine a better wolverine.
The visual effects and makeup were awesome. Great soundtrack. I loved the dynamics between the characters. There were so many cool moments. This will always be one of my favorite movies.
