Hemisphere (2023)
Impressive- Enjoyed this Sci-fi thriller!
From the beginning I was drawn into this intriguing sci-fi thriller... Hemisphere. The quality and creativity utilized to make this feel like a much bigger production (than I am guessing that it was) is incredibly impressive. The attention to detail is much appreciated. This includes quality sound design, production design, cinematography, music, titles and graphics. The characters were likable and interesting to watch and I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Truly blown away by what they accomplished here. Kudos to Director Chris Maes for pulling it off. It is definitely worth a watch!
ClearMind (2024)
A fun, entertaining and wild ride...
Clear mind is a fun, entertaining and wild ride filled with suspense and humor from start to finish. The story, well crafted by Seana Kofed showcases enjoyable characters and an engaging and relatable story that never takes it self too seriously. The acting is strong across the board as well as the cinematography, editing and music... great production value here. Not to mention it is set in an idyllic lake front property (which I'd love to visit). Clearmind is enjoyable and kept me on my toes with its rapid pace and amusing characters... I look forward to more from Seana Kofed and team in the future. A great watch !
Cicada Song (2019)
Keeps you on your toes... until the end !
Cicada Song is a very intriguing mystery/ thriller... that keeps you engaged and on your toes until the very end. Skillfully directed by Mike Starr- Cicada Song features beautiful cinematography, solid performances, great locations and a taunt and sensitive script that delves into timely, important social issues while remaining entertaining and suspenseful.
The production value is great! This felt like a much bigger film and Missouri is a beautiful backdrop.
Hats off to everyone involved in the production. Truly enjoyed watching... and recommend it highly. Can't wait to see what is next for Mike Starr! He is on my radar!
How Deep Is the Ocean (2023)
Solid Indie Film
I thoroughly enjoyed this film written and directed by Andrew Walsh. He set a nice tone and flow from the get go and continued it through out the film with wonderful ambient music. The natural performances bring you into the story and make it all believable. I was happy to go along for the ride. Was an interesting slice of life and a very relatable character in Eleanor who is struggling to make ends meet upon her arrival in Melboure, Australia. Enjoyed all the supporting characters as well. They did some interesting and solid work. Definitely worth watching! Look forward to more films from Andrew Walsh in the future.
Token Taverns (2023)
Enjoyed this Documentary!
Bob Rose does a terrific job crafting a well shot and edited documentary about the value of arcades and how they create community and foster life long friendships.
From maintenance to mentoring... and arcades around the world... I found this documentary to be moving and inspiring.
It's beautiful to see how supportive and meaningful the connections built in arcades are, so much so, they affect people throughout their lives, enough to pass the torch on to new generations. There is plenty of nostalgia to pinball and games of the 80's and some heavy hitters who have incomprehensible skills...
But the friendly competition does not dissipate the camaraderie they all feel towards one another.
We witness the devastating effects Covid had on these venues and the creative solutions necessary to stay afloat.
I found it moving and inspiring to see how how the gaming community supports one another during both times of crisis and celebration.
An enjoyable watch ! I recommend this film.
Fighting Olympus (2023)
An interesting and wild ride.
An imaginative take on Greek mythology with strong direction by Julian Hampton. There was great production, sound design, music, lighting and some beautiful and impressive shots. Julian Hampton did very well making the picture look bigger than I'm sure his indie budget allowed. Some excellent choreographed fight scenes. Lead by Leslie Jones who plays Rucker I kept guessing how it all was going to play out. Will look for more from Julian Hampton in the future. A unique story that I can not recall having seen before. It's an interesting and wild ride. A good LA cop story with a twist. Worth watching.
Craig Quits His Day Job (2016)
A dry sense of humor and quirky character make this film enjoyable !
Craig quits his day job's dry sense of humor and quirky characters keep you on your toes for an enjoyable tale of quitters trying to unite with other likeminded individuals.
Trying to unite with fellow quitters is not an easy task... it's pretty hard to get them to commit and show up consistently. There are wacky and offbeat characters amongst Craig's neighbors but it is the pleasant and attractive Grace who reInvigorates Craig and gets his confidence and passion for life back up.
The fun characters and dry humor make an enjoyable and entertaining film well directed by ...Eric Paul Chapman. The lead Garett Titlebaum is likable as the beguiled and often misunderstood quitter who in the end finds his purpose. Enjoyed this film !
Jovi & Lou (2023)
Very engaging story...
A compelling story that kept me engaged from the beginning until the end. I wanted to see what happened to these characters. A unique idea that debates morals, ethics and the conflict between good and evil. The protagonist is stuck making an impossible choice... the production value is high and it is fun and entertaining while being thought provoking.
Particularly interesting was the existential crisis and internal debate of the public defender who felt guilty in getting criminals off for horrendous crimes. In order to the even the playing field a requirement is made for her survival... worth watching.
