Singularity (2017)
There are plenty of good low-budget sci-fi, this is not one of them.
First I'd like to say that there's a little value in this film, very little, if any. Plot is a strange snooze fest which makes even less sense as the film concludes. The acting is sub-par, at best (John Cusack, Jeannine Wacker), but completely trashed by Julian Schaffner (I'm sorry but he should really consider another career). The FX is poor and seem effortless, sometimes even comical.
In short, there are plenty of good low-budget sci-fi, but this is not one of them. I desperately tried to understand what the film was trying to say, if anything, but could only conclude that's it's a ~90 minute effortless attempt of something. Truthfully I can't find any reason to recommend this to any type of viewer, and I hate to say it, because I believe there is some value in most films, but this one is best to stay away from.
Gods of Egypt (2016)
CGI fest for the children
Big CGI, easily identifiable characters, name-drop a few Egyptian gods, more big CGI, and there you got it. Nothing about this movie is particularly good, but nothing is particularly bad either.
The plot is easy enough for a 7-8 year old to understand, and the casting appears to be done to please the eyes of teen. The movie is honest in the way that it doesn't try to be anything more than a children's movie - which it is - and should therefore be watched as one.
With that in mind it does a fairly good job of entertaining. If you want a fast paced CGI fest set in an imaginary Egypt, about love and morals, this movie might just be right for you.
Daehakno-yeseo maechoon-hadaka tomaksalhae danghan yeogosaeng ajik Daehakno-ye Issda (2000)
Fails at every aspect
First off, me like everyone else who watched this movie surely was aware that it's a budget production, and would not expect more than what it could've been. But this movie does not fall because of a non-existing budget, but because it's just a complete fail.
Why did I watch it? Well, the idea behind the movie is what made me interested, thinking it might be some sort of fusion between Machine Girl and the Guinea Pig series, hoping for a bold, unpolished, and raw story. Much to my disappointment it's not, and here's why: The acting is pathetic, even if it would be a middle school arts project, every single role is executed without heart or motivation. There's no excuse no matter how budget a movie is to allow such poor acting. The editing and filming is just as bad as the acting, where the movie appears to go for artistic and clever shots in order to intrigue the viewer (like many other budget movies), the reality is that it's just annoying and ruins any form flow in the movie, and does definitely not intrigue. The script is not any better; the story is as coherent as if a five year old would've written it. What else can be critiqued.. well everything but the music, and perhaps three minutes of total footage that was actually cleverly made.
All in all, this is by far one of the worst budget productions I've ever seen. It's an hour of your life - the only reason why I could even finish it - which does not seem like much, but you're better off watching an our of nyancat than spending your time on this.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
The intro and outro is the absolute best I have ever witnessed on the white screen!
Can a remake become a new era?
This was the question I asked myself, when I'd finished watching the new remake of Dawn of the Dead.
This movie was beyond all my expectations, and I can assure, that I actually had some pretty high thoughts about this remake.
The original story is a masterpiece itself, and this new one, wasn't bad in any way. Rather the opposite, it had been remodeled and redone to fit the aspects of the time we are living in today. And I'm sure Romero is pleased with the new story.
What surprised me the most was how god d**n beautiful this movie was. Every scene is like a masterpiece itself. The intro and outro is the absolute best I have ever witnessed on the white screen! I almost tried to brake into the projector room at the cinema to rewind the outro, just to watch it again.
I can continue to write about how great this flick was, or i can sum it all up a bit.
There are two things about Dawn of the Dead (2004), that made the biggest impact on me. no 1: The overall performance of the movie itself. no 2: The visual parts. Every scene just felt so perfect. The lighting, the environments, camera positioning, effects etc. Everything just felt like it had been trimmed to perfection!
But... Dawn of the Dead is not for everyone. My mom for instance wouldn't be able to understand what made this movie so great. It is still a hardcore zombie flick. Not like 28 days later or Resident Evil.
The only thing left to do, Is to hope that this movie is the beginning of a new Zombie Era!
The Transporter (2002)
It will rock you so bad that you will need a respirator to breath!
THIS IS ACTION!
The first things I heard about The Transporter wasn't the best you could wish for. Some of my friends went to see the movie and came back disappointed. They thought it was ridiculous and annoying for some reason. Of course that made my hopes of a new good action movie vanished quickly. Though I just couldn't let it all go, so finally I grabbed my butt and went to see it. A little bit doubtful, but still with an open mind.
Guess what? I wasn't the least disappointed when I came back home. This was actually one of the best pure action movies I've seen in months. xXx was good, but perhaps a bit too much. The Transporter was all that xXx wasn't, though the stories are not to be compared, but some of the scenes was a bit alike. Anyway, The Transporter can be proud of the good acting, fabulous fighting scenes and a great and innovative story. Another thing that surprised me was the fact the whole love deal in the movie wasn't bad at all. Often the romance and love parts in action movies sucks.. really bad too.
So to sum it all up. If you're looking for a nice fighting-speed-action flick, then this is really it. I still have to warn you. If you get disturbed on things that aren't "realistic" then you better leave this movie alone. Actually, then you should leave all action movies alone, because they are all about being "a bit too much". Now that I have warned you.. go see it. Don't hesitate!
It will rock you so bad that you will need a respirator to breath!
Bravo Two Zero (1999)
"Bravo Two Zero" is a perfect example of how a great war movie should be.
When I first heard of the film "Bravo Two Zero", I thought it would be another American b-action, and to be honest hoped it to be one. To my surprise it was anything but a b-action movie.
To make it short, "Bravo Two Zero" is a perfect example of how a great war movie should be. Not only by the great acting and remarkably good story, but by parts where you actually laughed and sometimes even cried. Through my years of a big war fan, have I gotten the chance to see a lot of movies based on wars. Some of them really good like "Full Metal Jacket" but others kind of wasteless b-action. Another thing that made the movie a little bit more attractive was that it wasn't about the Vietnam War or WWII which most movies are about, and I must say that I am a bit tired of the same story just with other actors or sets.
To sum the whole thing up, I really enjoyed watching this movie! To be honest, I have strong difficulties to find anything to remark on. The only thing I can be a little harsch on, is that there seem to be missing a part in the end of the movie. I won't tell you when or where, but I'll think you'll notice that.
I gave the movie a 9, which can seem like a whole lot, but I really fancied the movie and think that It's worth a nine. So now, even if you are not a war movie fan, go fetch "Bravo Two Zero" it's worth it!
Zombi 2 (1979)
Zombie Flesheaters have everything a good Zombie movie should include, and more!
I have always been a big fan of Zombie movies. To begin with I have to explain how you can make a resume on a Zombie film from the 70's or 80's. First of all, you can't expect any fancy special effects. What makes Zombie movies so great are the fact that the men behind them, make the movie with his heart, and not his greed. When watching a Lucio Fulci movie, you really see that he has put his heart into the movie.
To be a 70's horror, or even Zombie movie, Zombie Flesheaters (as it's known in Europe) is a great movie. The story might not be the best, but Fulci have created a really special feeling in the film. Actually you can't even blink your eyes, because you don't want to miss anything. Zombie Flesheaters have everything a good Zombie movie should include, and more! Great action scenes, good acting, and music that is so much better than in any other movie.
The ending scene is something that can never be done again. I've seen movies where they try to recreate Zombie Flesheaters ending scene, like Resident Evil. RE's ending scene was cool, but not in anyway, anything like Zombie Flesheaters end.
To sum it up I would like to recommend this movie to all Horror and Zombie fans. If you're looking for a cool Hollywood production then you can stop reading and start looking for another movie. If you're looking for fancy special effects then this is no movie for you. But! If you're looking for a movie made from the heart of a great director, then Zombie Flesheaters is a must see for you!
I give Zombie Flesheaters (Zombie 2) a 10 out of 10, which is the highest a movie can get. I give it such a high vote because it can never be redone, with or without fancy special effects.
Resident Evil (2002)
Resident Evil might look like an ordinary 21 century action/horror, but there's more to it than you'd ever expect!
When I saw the trailer to the Resident Evil movie, I actually became a little bit disappointed. It didn't seem to have much with the different video games to do. Except for the original plot "An evil company, releases a massive virus which turns humans into living dead".
Though now, after I've seen it, I'm really surprised with the amount of places and objects you find simular with the objects and places of the different games. Even some scenes seems to be taken from the Games. As for me, who have played all of the games, that is very amusing. Still Resident Evil isn't just a good movie based on some video games.
My words are simple. Resident Evil might look like an ordinary 21 century action/horror,
but there's more to it than you'd ever expect. The Story is so intense and the actors are really doing a great job, including the Zombie actors. It was a long time ago we've got a really good Zombie movie, but now we are liberated. :D
To finalize it all, I will rate it. Really I would like to give it 10/10, but there's something that gave me the feeling om incompleteness. It is indeed a superb film, but they could've at least given us 40 minutes more of Zombies and terror. So therefor I will give it 8/10 and pray that they bring us another Resident Evil movie, this time based on the first games' story.
