I was looking forward to the release of this movie and it was even way better than I expected! Daniel Radcliffe is excellent in this film, he pulls off the role perfectly. All of the casting is excellent, really. Especially the fake celebrity cameos being performed by other actual celebrities. The scene at Dr. Demento's house with so many famous figures from the 80's had me howling with laughter! A lot of the big music stars from that era, but also a great cross-section of other 80's icons. And the outfits are great!
The writing and jokes were, as I said, brilliant! Everything was tremendously exaggerated and yet, somehow completely believable. There were jokes inside of jokes and they worked at many levels. It was perfectly absurd and ridiculous, a giant masterful parody not only of the very master of parodies, Weird Al himself, but the whole music industry, whom Al turned upside-down, back then, and now again!
Now if you were not already at least a partial Weird Al fan, and not at least somewhat familiar with his work then you probably won't grok this film and much of it will go over your head. But you don't have to be a superfan to love this movie. I'm just a regular-level fan but I thought the movie was superb, and possibly his greatest work yet.
