Will Trent: Don't Let It Happen Again (2023)
A bit rushed and obvious, but ok
The episode is a bit too in your face and obvious. Felt they rushed the mystery to cover everything they wanted. It could have been a two-parter like the first mystery and play things better.
Surely, you want every character you introduce to have a spot, but when you watched too many procedurals, you need to try better to confuse the audience.
And let's not talk about the jump to the bridge scene. It was "well, we have to keep it under 44 minutes so there's no time to show how everything came to be." This is not broadcast TV, you can give it 5 more minutes.
I like the main characters and their backstories make them interesting. Thought everything is still a bit disconnected. But it's just episode 3, so I'll give it some more time.
Salvation: All In (2017)
Tell me yo have no budget without telling me you have no budget
So many things not working here.
The strike attack to the warehouse was 1 SUV and 3 guys with ski masks. You could probably spare two seconds, do another take, same people, different angle. The whole production seemed to be rushed and wants to look like big sci for with no budget. Why aim so high when you could do something more subtle and get way better results.
I wipe for poor Kurtzman.
Budget aside, let's talk plot. They bombed the thing down instead of searching and maybe finding a laptop or something to carry the hunt forward. But no, four charges of C4 and boom. It's bad. It's really really bad.
But here we are. Moving on to the next.
Salvation (2017)
Lazy writing, awful science
I love sci-fi and I can usually go past lousy science if the rest of the show can support it.
10 episodes into season one, oh my god. We can launch rockets and fall in love in 2 days, become international spies, teenagers hack the infrastructure of a country, and everything done by the same 8 people. The teenage hacker also have a public Facebook account...
Part of the plot problems could have been solved by extending the pace of the show -e.g. Have a rocket prep for launch in months instead of days- but you have to get the show moving, right?
I have to give it some credit though, it does capture your attention and I'm still watching. How much longer? That I don't know.
Big Sky: The Muffin or the Hammer (2022)
As unrealistic it can get
Season one was great, but season 2 has lowered the quality tremendously. Here are some examples.
Travis is the worst undercover cop ever. Keeps showing up everywhere, publicly. In the smallest town ever. I'm surprised that they don't bump into each other all the time.
Jenny forgot how to act like an intelligent being. The drug lords decided to mount a drug lab in their own property and the police doesn't have a brain cell -starting with her. Talk to me about character un-development.
Waitress suddenly becomes expert at real estate, transportation logistics, being a mob boss negotiating with truckers because... the story had to happen?
I'm keeping up with this because the writers put somewhat good cliffhangers at the end of the episode and I must see what happens. LOL. At least they do that part right. I have to give them credit.
