Knives Out (2019)
Knives Okay
It's pretty good. I liked it enough to watch it. There are some good actors in it, but I only like a few characters. I don't want to give spoilers, but I actually think the premise is a little weak, because I'm actually completely on the killer's side, they didn't do anything wrong, it was just bad luck. So I can't really root for the detective. The detective character is a bit weird too, it's like they have tried to combine Sherlock Holmes and Colonel Sanders, but cast James Bond to play him. So I think it's okay, but there is definitely room for improvement.
Daniel Craig is a good actor. I think he is overrated as James Bond, because I mostly prefer the early James Bond movies. He is good in this as the detective. Captain America is okay too, the character is a bit of a jerk, but he is at least kind of interesting. The old woman who was in Halloween is really annoying.
The main selling point of the movie to me is that Ana De Armas is so unbelievably hot, especially for a Mexican. She is my new favourite actress. She did a really good job playing Marilyn Monroe, and I can't think of many other actresses who could have done that. She is my favourite character because she is nice and pretty, but also the most interesting.
There is also this other female character that I don't necessarily like, but I was hoping there might be some girl on girl action. This movie could have really benefitted from that. It would have been the real shot in the arm to take it up to the next level. The murder mystery is a bit mediocre, but maybe a scene with two hot girls in a hot tub drinking champagne would have made you forget all of that.
Then maybe you introduce another hot girl, but a real fireball that clashes with the main girl, this creates a love triangle, then maybe at the climax of the film they have a big hot sexy fight, clothes get ripped, maybe some grunting like in female tennis, while they pounce on each other like proud lionesses tearing curtains and breaking furniture, then the main girl's girlfriend gets involved and tries to break it up, they are rolling on the floor, then after about 15 minutes of hot lesbian wrestling, the passion overtakes them and they start kissing and you basically take that as far as you can get away with and still get the film released.
Then after all that is done the detective wraps it all up with a neat explanation. The killer is arrested for whatever they did. Then the three hot girls begin a polygamous lesbian relationship, get a nice big mansion and move in together, the film ends with them having a pillow fight in their pyjamas.
Just a suggestion.
National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
Genius
This is one of the best comedy movies ever made. It is amazing how well it holds up to this day. Every scene is hilarious and every actor/character is great. The big stars like John Belushi are obviously great, but even some of the minor characters are great too. The Motown type track has real heart. There is just enough of a plot to hold everything together and keep things rolling. The guys at animal house seem like the most fun guys ever, I'd love to party at their house, but the preppy characters are funny too in their own way, and the dean is a great stick in the mud villain. One thing I like a lot is that the heroes of the movie are all a bunch of no good trouble makers, which can work very well for comedy. I hate when some comedies fall into the trap of putting out what they think are good social and political messages. I don't want to see that stuff. It's comedy, all I care about is it being funny. I have seen this before several times, but in a few years I'll happily watch it again. It is a classic movie, pretty much every college comedy movie that came after this has ripped this off, and you can't even blame them, if you are going to steal then steal from the best, and Animal House is the best.
They Live (1988)
Timeless
I had wanted to watch this for a long time, and only just got round to it today. It was a really great movie, I'm glad I watched it. It has held up in a way that most movies from many decades ago just don't (in my opinion) because the idea and themes are timeless. The elite have always secretly worked to exploit the masses, it is cool to see a bad ass action movie where those evil lizards get their asses kicked. Rowdy Roddy Piper does a great job in this, he can definitely act. He was one of the most charismatic and entertaining wrestlers so I'm not surprised at all that he can carry a movie. The bubblegum line is one of my favourite lines in any movie I have ever seen, and apparently it was Piper's own line he wrote to use in a wrestling promo. I think it is actually better than Escape From New York. EFNY had a cooler look and soundtrack, but They Live has a better story. It's a really good movie, I highly recommend it.
Blockbuster (2022)
Blockbuster
I like it. It is kind of a standard comedy in 2022. It's not Arrested Development funny, but what is? I put on the first episode and it's fun to watch. The characters are nice and likeable (at least most of the) I love Blockbuster and movies. It has JD Smooth in it (Leon from Curb) the dude is hilarious, he's my favourite character. It also makes me want a time machine. The world is not doing well and they are right when they say that things would be better if there were more Blockbuters in the world. This is a good idea for a tv show. I think it is.by the same people who did Brooklyn 99 and I like that show too.
American Psycho (2000)
Do You Like Huey Lewis And The News?
Christian Bale is a great actor who has been in a lot of great movies, but to me this will always be his best performance. Patrick Bateman is a terrible human being, but he is also fascinating. This film is probably not for everyone, they get too hung up on all of murder and blood. Which is fine, but if you can get past that, it is actually one of the best black comedies ever made, and I don't mean basketball black. The characters are all complete psychopaths, but that is why it is so funny. I think it rips Wall Street to shreds in the same way Zoolander ripped the modelling world apart. I haven't seen the film in years, but rewatching it, it definitely still holds up, it is just one classic scene after another. So many good memes. They don't make films like this anymore.
Hard Core Logo (1996)
A Punk Rock Masterpiece
This is one of my favourite movies. It is a cult punk rock masterpiece. People compare it to Spinal Tap and I can see why, but I think they are very different movies. Spinal Tap is one of the funniest movies ever made, it is consistently hilarious from start to finish, this movie definitely has some funny moments, but it is a.lot more serious.
Spinal Tap are ridiculous people, that is what makes them great, but this band are actually cool, I wish they were a real band, every character is great and they are very entertaining, the plot is simple but very effective, the characters are so interesting and charismatic that I am happy to just watch them travel around causing mischief. The ending still hits me hard even though I know what is coming.
All of the characters are great but Hugh Dillon as Joe Dick and Callum Keith Rennie as Billy Talent steal the show. Spinal Tap is silly comedy genius, but this film is actually surprisingly deep and philosophical. They just don'y make movies like this anymore.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Fantastic!
I love the John wick movies. They know exactly what they are and they do it really really well. Just to get it out of the way I have a few slight criticisms, Hallie Berry is kind of annoying, I don't like the short haired angry lesbian, there is one bit I thought was pretty gross (: () and at times the plot is a bit muddled, but apart from those small issues it is a really great entertaining action movie.
Now for the things I liked, Keanu is great as this character, it is right up there with Neo as one of his best, he is great at the fighting and shooting, Morpheus is in this which is a really cool reunion for Matrix fans, the continental guy is cool and so is the chief from the wire, there are some great locations, I like the bald guy and his two asian friends who have epic fights with John. This really is a quality movie. In the first 15 minutes he kills a dude with a book! Take that readers! Great movie. I'd happily watch John Wick 4, or even 5, 6, or 7. They have all been great so far, and as long as Keanu can still perform the action sequences I don't see any reason to stop, when you are at the casino and you keep winning, then you have to keep going, any gambler worth his salt will tell you that, let's ride this train until the wheels come off.
Thoroughbreds (2017)
Thoroughmeh...
It was okay. The two main actresses were very good and they had nice chemistry. I think the premise is okay but they didn't really make the most of it. I don't think think it quite lived up to it's potential. Without giving spoilers they want to do x but I don't think they did enough to establish the target as the villain and the girls as antiheroes to get me on side. There might be some subtext that he is secretly doing something evil so he deserves it, but I don't think there was nearly enough to make that clear, he seemed like.a run of the mill a**hole, and the girls are attractive, but not that likeable or interesting.
For plots like this to work I have to either sympathise with the characters and so like them and want them to succeed, or I can dislike the characters, but then I have to at least find them interesting and so want to see what they will do. In theory this could have been an 8/10 it is well made and had good acting, the premise is okay, but they would have needed to make the heroes more likeable, and there would have to be a good reason for hating the villain, him being a jerk in three short scenes isn't good enough for me considering what the 'heroes' end up doing.
Pixie (2020)
Very Disappointing
I was expecting a lot more from this film. Dylan Moran is one of my favourite comedians and he is a good actor too, his scene is funny, all 2 minutes of it. Alec Baldwin is a great actor too, but he isn't in it much either. I like Chief O'Brian from Deep Space Nine too, but the movie is mostly about three bozos who I don't care about. The Emma Something (or Olivia something) actress from Bates Motel who is popular right now, she is a good actress, but this is meh.
Anyway, it tries way too hard to be violent crude and edgy, it's like Irish people trying to do a Quentin Tarantino movie, which is every bit as silly as it sounds, Guy Ritchie sort of makes the London dooo woot gangter rubbish kind of work, but I hate those movies too. I hate giving Americans credit for anything, but they do have the best gangster movies and tv shows. If you want to watch a good gangster thing then watch a Martin Scorsese movie or The Sopranos, this is just rubbish. I definitely think less of everyone involved in creating it.
Frasier: Radio Wars (1999)
I hate Carlos and the Chicken
I hate Carlos and the Chicken! They are the worst. I'd like to give them both a knuckle sandwich. Their pranks are supposed to be funny, but I just find them annoying. Breaking balls with the boys over a couple of ice cold brewskis is one thing, but bullying is just horrible. Bozos like this have nothing to offer the world and so all they can do is to target nice innocent people and attack them just in a soulless effort for the bullies to get the attention and acceptance they desperately crave. Frasier is a nice guy who did not deserve their abuse, I was really rooting for him to put those two annoying s***heads in their place.
Frasier: Room Service (1998)
Classic
I just finished rewatching this episode and I have to ay it is one of my favourites. It guest stars Lilith and I love her. I know some people think she is unlikable, but I think she is great, she is very smart, and I like how direct she is, there are no mind games with her, and I have autism so I hate that rubbish, the idea of a smart sexy woman telling me exactly what she is thinking is a much better for me than some subtle signals or emotional turns I don't understand, and I know I'm shallow but she is a stone cold fox. I won't give spoilers, but the final exchange between Frasier, Niles, and Lilith is brilliant, I don't know why I enjoy listening to three pretentious psychiatrists argue, but I'll take that over a sex scene or a car chase any day. I really love Frasier, it deserves to be so highly rated.
Monster (2022)
Tasteless and Unnecessary
I think it is tasteless and unnecessary to make shows like this about serial killers. The man brutally murdered more than a dozen people, why would you want to make a tv show about that?
A horror movie is one thing because they are works of fiction, I can see how that makes for a thrilling story, but the difference is that this was a real killer with real victims and some of the families are still alive, how do you think they feel when a new tv show comes out about the man who killed someone they love (almost glorifying him) and it becomes the most popular show on Netflix? Have Netflix really sunk that low?
It would be different if it was an informative documentary, something like a collection of interviews with criminal psychologists, police, and victim's family members if they were willing, don't glorify him in any way, but just talk about what he did and try to explain why he did these things, maybe something positive could come out of that because people could learn how these monsters are created and we could all try to make sure that stuff doesn't happen again, but this is just cheap heat, it shocks people (and it should) but that is not automatically a good thing.
If they really wanted to make something like this then they should have made it about Jack the Ripper or other cases like that, because it happened so long ago that everyone involved has been dead for a very long time. So I'm sure this is probably well made as far as tv shows go, but I think it is very tasteless and unnecessary to make a tv show about this creep, and I think it is even sadder that it is currently number 1 on Netflix. People are sick.
Do Revenge (2022)
A sign of the times
This was number one movie on Netflix, so how bad could it really be? The answer is very bad. It's like cruel intentions had a baby.with Strangers On A Train which then got brain damage from smoking too much crystal meth and now is in a wheelchair that is driven by blowing a straw. There is more depth in a bag of Cheetos than this hot bag of trash. The main girl with dark hair is very good looking, so that is nice, but.that is not enough to make a good movie. Another thing I don't like is how the dialogue is clearly written by middle aged hipsters with lots of references to 80s movies and stuff than teenagers now would clearly have no idea about, that is just self indulgent and unrealistic.
People might say I sm getting old and out of touch, but I really do think music, tv shows, and movies are all getting noticeably worse, I'm not exactly sure why, but it is what it is. This whole movie is like the writers picked a few films they want to rip off, made a playlist of their favourite songs, got a bunch of hot upcoming actors, and wrote the actual script in one coked up evening, there is not one original idea in this mess. It is just an 80s teen movie but set in 2022 and all woke and stuff.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
A stylish Bugs Bunny cartoon with real peoples
I have to say Quentin Tarantino always make very entertaining films, I do enjoy watching them. This one is very entertaining, but I do have some criticisms. It is basically a pantomime with the nazis being cartoon characters. The guy playing Hitler might as well be in a Bugs Bunny cartoon, so if you're looking for realism then you won't find it here.
The writing is very good, except I think sometimes it can be cringeworthy and cheesy. First of all Christopher Waltz is amazingly good at the Nazi guy, he's very charming which makes hi character even scarier, I can see why everyone loved him in this. Then there is Mikey Fassbender, he is as cool as a cucumber a the British guy. The blonde jewish girl is drop dead gorgeous, like a female deer. Diane Kruger is extremely sexy as a hot blonde nazi,I will be fantasising about both of them later yes sir, say what you want about the nazis, but they sure had sex appeal, at times it is hard to tell if you are watching a WW2 movie or looking at a group of supermodels doing an edgy photoshoot.
So there is a lot to like about the film, it keeps your attention all the way through, and it looks very stylish and cool. Now for the things I didn't like, well I think that sometimes QT gets praise for being edgy that he doesn't actually deserve, take this movie and Django as examples, it's basically just glorifying murdering nazis and slave owners, there is nothing at all edgy or risky about that in our current culture, it is literally the safest thing you could ever do in a movie.
This leads me to the most annoying thing, Brad Pitt and his merry band of nazi hunters, it gave me d**** chills every time they were on screen, this guy is a cookie cutter American square jaw hero, he is collecting nazi scalps, whoah! Look out, captain America is in town, what won't he say? It is just so corny, I know you're supposed to think they're the cool guys, but it's basically just the A team with twice as many members, and taking themselves way too seriously, when you compare them to Christopher Waltz's character he wins by a country mile in the coolness department, does he need a whole crew of yes men with zero personality? No, does he have to try make him self seem tough talking about ripping peoples heads off? No, he has polite but very intimidating conversations whilst drinking milk and eating pastries like a real badass.
Now for my least favourite thing about the movie, there is a character called The Bear Jew... really... the character is called The Bear Jew, because he is so big and scary that it is like dealing with a grizzly bear that happens to be circumsided and has keen business instincts, watch out you no good nazis, the Bear Jew is in town, it really makes me cringe so hard. Anyway, if I just make myself ignore the things that annoy me, it is very entertaining and definitely one of Tarantinos best movies, I'd say the 4th best after the first two and then the Hollywood one. I'm going to be very very generous and give it a 9 because Christopher Waltz is awesome, there are two knock out blondes, and lots of stylish nazi imagery, minus one point for the cheesy bear jew and Americans saving the day (as usual) rubbish, I did enjoy it from start to finish and that has to count for something.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Could have been better
You either like the Saw movies or you don't. I like the first one a lot, some others have ben okay, but most of them are really bad, this one is not the worst, but it's one of them. They tend to be very gory, which is not really my thing, I can deal with seeing blood and guts if it is done in the right context and serves the overall story. The problem with this is it has quite a predictable story, bland characters, and lots of unnecessary gore. So it's definitely not something to watch with your family, unless you hate them and want them to have night terrors. I have to say that Chris Rock actually does quite a good job in this, the guy is a great comedian, but I've never been that impressed with him as an actor, but I have to admit he did well in this, it wouldn't surprise me if he wrote some of his own funny lines. Samuel L Jackson is good in this, but he is in everything. It is definitely creepy and success in making you feel sick, but if you compare this to the first movie it is just embarrassing, the first movie was very well written and acted, the story made a lot of sense, the villain was terrifying, and there was some great twists and turns. This is just 90 minutes of bloody murder and a bad cop drama, I had no emotional investment in anything that happened. It is really not good. I think they should just stop making Saw movies, they have only been getting worse since the first one. This is just disturbing and depressing. To be fair, there was a few good ideas for a story in here, they just never quite came together. I won't give spoilers, but I think corrupt police abusing their power to hirt innocent people is one of the most disgusting and hateful things that happens in this world, of the idea of getting some divine inspired justice in that area is very appealing, but they kind of wasted the good ideas with bad ones. With a few important changes to the story, more character development, and less unnecessary gore this could have been quite good, but as it stands I have to give it a thumbs down.
Duncan (2020)
You need to know why they make stuff like this
I would be very surprised if this review gets posted but I'm going to try anyway. In my opinion, the global elite are a small group of highly intelligent amoral monsters with an absurd amount of.money and power, they then use this money and power to shape world events to their own benefit, often at the expense of all of the rest of us. Conspiracy theories often have some element of truth to them, events like the JFK assassination and 9/11 are strange and do provoke attention and investigation. Sometimes governments do lie, that is a fact, and so people have a right to question some of these events. Look up some documentaries about Pizzagate and you will see that there is no smoke without fire, eventually the public start to uncover the truth, and when this happens the people responsible will try to counter this by infiltrating the movement and controlling the opposition, they take what was a logical fact based theory about what has actually happened and why, and these bad actors then introduce lots of deliberately ridiculous ideas into the mix to try and discredit the movement as a whole and throw people off the scent, this film is a textbook example of that, they took a theory that makes a lot of sense (the global elite being involved in sex trafficking) and then introduce some crazy ideas about them being lizard people. Anyway, I just felt like ranting about that because that is exactly what this movie is trying to do, and people need to know that.
As far as the actual film goes, it's.very low quality in every way. It is a bad movie, it was always going to be, I wasn't expecting Citizen Kane, I just wanted something to watch when I was bored. It has a few funny moments near the beginning, but it is a really really really bad movie. This is the sort of thing you would end a friendship over if someone recommended it to you. I just want to forget about it. No one needs to watch this abomination, but they do need to know why stuff like this exists.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Bad Ass!!!
Cobra Kai is bad ass!!! I actually really enjoy this show. Everything about it rules! They are able to make a great blend of things. Teen drama. Teen dramas can be annoying because there is that sexy Rebel Without A Cause thing with good looking young people having hot romance, but then it can get kind of g** with all of the feelings and sh**, teenagers can be exciting but also very annoying, and so in this they solve that problem very well by having them beat the s*** out of each other in cool bad ass fight sequences. The martial arts in this is great. They also have awesome bad ass 80s rock tunes. I wish I had a time machine to escape this evil clown nightmare world and go back to the 80s when the world was cool. I like and relate to most of the characters, at times I'm not even sure who I want to win, that is a sign of some good writing there sir. I think this is a great show. Very entertaining, very addictive, and I like it a lot more than some pretentious Oscar winning s*** that critics j*** over like black and white crap about slavery or the holocaust or some s***. Cobra Kai is badass!!!! I'm going to try find a Cobra Kai t shirt online because I think it will help make me feel like a badass. COBRA KAI!!! HIYAAA!!!!!
21 (2008)
Blackjack Bonanza
I liked this movie. Kevin Spacey might be a very bad person given all of that MeToo stuff about him, but he is a damned fin actor, he is extremely charismatic, and has elevated everything I have seen him in. He is cool in this. The hero is likeable enough, and Kate Bosworth is extremely beautiful. Laurence Fishburne is another great actor, and like Spacey has been good in everything I have seen him in. It is a good entertaining movie from start to finish. It is a good gambling movie, The only better one I can think of is Rounders which I'd give a 9/10. It makes me want to go out and play some blackjack, and try to find and seduce Kate Bosworth.
I Came By (2022)
Not That Good
I didn't want to like this film, and I still don't really, but I will try and be fair about it. I thought the Graffiti thing was really dumb. These two bozos plan to spark a communist revolution by doing graffiti in rich peoples homes. It makes me cringe just thinking about it. To me that is as silly as suggesting that the Crips and Bloods settle their differences by break dancing. The Hugh Boner guy does a great job as the villain, he is quite scary. Also the woman from Trainspotting who plays the graffiti guys mum does a good job acting, I felt a lot of sympathy for her. The plot is okay, not that great, but not bad, I did get a few surprises. The main thing I found annoying was that there is a lot of subtle and sometimes not so subtle wokeness in it. I hate 2022. It was fine to watch one time, but I'm never going to watch it again.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
Halloweak
I am not impressed. I had it on in the background and it barely held my attention. Nothing really happens. It is basically just the original film, but now she is older, and has a kid. The kids basically end up having nothing to do with the overall tory anyway. There isn't even really much of a story. It is more than an hour of filler until a bit of highly predictable action in the lat 15 minutes. This is as if they were thinking, making these movies has worked for us a few times now, let's do it again, all we'll do is cast some hot young up and coming stars and throw a few punk rock songs on the soundtrack to make it current year, but basically just do the exact same thing we did before, then sit back and collect the big bucks, and I hate them because this formulaic trash does seem to work for them. I then thought about it and realised that I didn't even really like the first Halloween movie, it I considered a classic, but I found it quite forgettable, it is another one where nothing really happens until the last 15 minutes. I also don't like Jamie Lee Curtis as a lead actress, I have no problem with her as a person, I don't know her, but I just don't buy her as the lead, a wisecracking gym teacher maybe, but not the star of an entire franchise, to me the lead actress in a horror movie has to be really beautiful, the deranged psychopathic murder could be targeting anyone, it has to make sense that he chooses the prettiest girl to be his sexy blonde death princess. Anyway, not for me, if you want some good horror from this era then watch Scream, or Scream 2, maybe Scream 3 if you are bored, and Scream 4 if you are really bored, but not the new Scream, that one was awful, I refuse to even count it.
GLOW (2017)
Feminism And Spandex!
I've been looking for something to watch and I remembered I used to watch this show, but had not seen season 3. I actually do like it, I like wrestling, it can be kind of funny, Alison Brie and Betty Whatshername are both cute. They wear spandex which is nice. I've tried to watch a few other shows on Netflix that were just awful, but this is okay, I'm happy to watch this. I think what I like is that it is trashy in just the right way. They aren't that good at wrestling, don't expect any of them to do the Shooting Star Press, but it's not really about that, as a fan of wrestling I would find that funny though, if in Season 4 they made if full on hardcore like ECW with barbed wire baseball bats and flaming tables, have some epic ladder matches and cage matches. I know it would be tasteless as hell and probably get the show cancelled, but what a way to go out. Anyway, that's just something to think about.
Split (2016)
Solid Effort
A lot of people like to rip on M Night, but he has made some cracking good films. He always finds a really interesting premise and some great actor to bring it to life. DID is a scary condition which makes it perfect for a thriller like this. James Mcovy is a really really great actor, he has been great in everything I have seen him in, in this role he is really able to show his range, all the way from nice and sweet to downright creepy. I also really like that Ana actress who was in Queens Gambit. She is very pretty and holds her own against Mcovy no problem. The female therapist character is great too. It is a really interesting movie, and probably one of my favourite romantic comedies that I have ever seen.
The Dark Knight (2008)
My Favourite Movie
If I could give this film an 11/10 I would. It is by far my favourite movie that I have ever seen. The other two Nolan Batman movies are awesome too, but there is something special about this one. It is flawless, from start to finish. I love everything about it. The writing is really smart, lots of good moral and philosophical ideas, this interpretation of The Joker is incredible. The writing is inspired and Heath Ledger's performance is stunning, he steals every scene he is in. I think it is tragic that he died before this was released, because he deserved to see just how much people loved his work in this movie. I think I want to watch this movie again soon, they just don't make movies like this anymore. If they did it now then Batman would have to be LGBT and black and Robin would be a woman who takes no rubbish from men and can do anything a man can do, and the Joker would just be a blonde haired blue eyed white guy who just can't accept that the world is changing, and commissioner Gordon would be trans or something, I really really hate the way the world is now. It wouldn't surprise me if IMDB those puppets of the establishment censor my review for being to full of red pills. I really should have been born in the time of don quixote, I haven't read that book yet, but I am familiar with the overall story, I really feel like I relate to that character, trapped in a world he does not understand full of cruel evil s*** demons, who just wants to have wild adventures as a brave knight and win the hearts of fair maidens, but instead I'm trapped here in this repulsive clown world. Anyway, back to the review. I don't know who actually reads this stuff, but 'don't forget to like and subscribe'... It is an all time classic. Jack Nicholson was a great Joker, and so was joahin (not sure how to spell his name) phoenix, and Mark Hamil in the Batman cartoon is great, but for me Heath Ledger was by far the best Joker that there ever was. I'm going to pretend that Jared Leto's never happened. It wasn't just that his Joker was bad, it was that he did like 9 months of pretentious method acting and it still sucked, what is that about? I wish I had a Men In Black memory wiper to forget all about his version, but it doesn't really matter, because Heath Legend was the best (see what I did there) by far, he can terrorise my city anytime with his dark psychotic oddly funny mind games any time. This performance also inspired one of my favourite memes of all time 'It costs literally $0 not to say the (censored word) it's not about the money, it's about sending a message! FIRE!!! The Dark Knight Rules! If anyone knows how to help me escape the evil secret society violently homosexual network of psychopaths trying to kill me, then please help. God Help Us All!!!!
The Sandman (2022)
Forced Cool
It annoys me that I know some people will say that it is good. Charles Dance is a great actor, and the show does look good in a gothic type of way, but the characters and story are nothing to write home about. This is like if the Goths from South Park decided to write a tv show ironically and then Netflix gave them $10 million to make it, but they god bored and gave up after 2 days and handed it off to some money hungry executive with zero creative ability. If you put on The Cure's album Disintegration and play this on mute at double speed, then it might make a decent music video, but as a tv show to watch it I very boring and pretentious. I am not at all impressed. The amount of times I have tried a tv show on Netflix and quit disappointed is just not funny. I feel like a sex worker trying to just endure.my clients advances until the clock runs out until I overdose on sorrow and shame. I think people might like it because it is somewhat stylish, but this if you are older than 18 and have an IQ over 75 this is not worth watching. You might as well just watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer, because at least that can be funny. This is just unimaginative gothic nonsense masquerading as dark and intelligent drama. Do not waste your time with it. One day I am going to sue Netflix for exposing me to so much relentless mediocracy. Life is too short for this rotten emo garbage.
Echoes (2022)
Confusing
I was looking for something to put on in the background whilst I make my plans for world domination. I chose this because I like the lead actress, she was in True Detective, and that is good tv show. It also has the guy from White Collar, another good tv show. I like them both as actors. This show is okay, I'm only a few episodes in, and it is not as bad as some people are saying, but it's not that good either. It is kind of complicated. I still don't really know what the show is about. I think it is twins who like to swap and live each others lives sometimes, it is an interesting enough idea, but it does get kind of confusing, there are a lot of layers to it, flashbacks etc. It is the sort of thing where there is the quaint small town that looks nice on the surface, but the people all have some dark secrets schtick. Better tune in to find out more. I'm happy to have it on in the background, I respect that it is at least trying to do something original, bur there is a lot of room for improvement. One thing is that there are too many characters and storylines, the twin thing can be confusing enough, you don't want to throw even more at the audience. If I did this then I would make it quite a simple plot, and I might make each episode from the perspective of one of the twins and keep alternating until the end, like episode 1 could be twin A, then episode 2 for twin B, that way you could have a certain events happen and from twin a's perspective they looks one way, but in the next episodes you get the missing pieces from twin b's perspective, and gradually over the course of the series you build up the full picture. Another cool thing you could do is make one twin seem good and the other seem evil, but then in the last episode you drop an M Night twist and by revealing some key information it turns out that it was actually the other way round, the one that seemed good was just a good liar, and actually the one you thought was evil was really the good one all along. That is just a free idea for anyone out there who might want to write a gripping twin based drama. It is okay enough so far, but I hope it gets better by the end.
