For the First Time (1959)
Pagliacci with makeup can never be duplicated...it's a smash. Wonder if cochlear implants came from ear surgery promoted in this film.
One wonder if some future scientist saw the film and invented cochlear implants to bring the film's main plotline to reality.
Tony Costa tries to sing to a young girl, but she cannot hear him, only can lip read. He decides to search for a physician hunting for a cure. Risky but it seemed to work...but over exuberance almost caused the success to reverse.
This film had lustrous music, special scenes, (Ave Maria by Shubert as well) and Pagliacci in make-up...who could ask for much more. Mario Lanza's gave his heart to the music, ever word sung as if it was his last...which was prophetic. He passed thereafter.
Arrivederci Roma (1957)
Louisa DeMio, the lovely street singer
Louisa DeMio, did a magnificent job singing, "Arrivaderchi Roma"...such a great voice.
Seeing her perform, brought me back to a memory of another little girl, Raphaela Fesano, who was dying of Hodgkin's Disease. She was a big fan of Mario Lanza, and her mother managed to contact co-workers, and when Mario was told about her, he flew her and her mother, to his Hollywood home to celebrate her last Christmas. His kindness will always be remembered.
Mario Lanza did another kindness, insisted Louisa DeMio sing with him in "Seven Hills of Rome. He enjoyed her upstaging him. Lovely man with a heart.
The Lost City (2022)
Nothing could save this flick.
Sandra is almost 60, trying to play like when she was younger, with a younger actor. Tatum is no Brad Pitt, as one can see when Brad's cameos arrive, he sparkles...lights up the screen, the other actors...not so much. Preachy Rom-com, wished it had been more uplifting in dialogue without the need to use tacky language to encourage teenagers into the theaters. Sad really.
Hollywood has forgotten how romance and comedy are written.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
DS 1 was a beautiful piece, DS2 is a rerun of Black Panther/Infinity War
So tired of comic book movies that seem to demand battle scene boredom rather than good story. It's a shame to ruin this franchise with mindless bombings and useless horror.
Was hoping for so much better.
