Human Target (2010)
Why must we continue to suffer Reality TV
Below is a rant that I have been bottling in for some time. Should you read further, I will not blame you should you disagree. I just needed to get a few things off my chest.
Why is it that FOX will do everything in its power to back reality based shows and continue to stifle promising shows such as Human Target. Yes this show had flaws, but the acting was decent and the story line was intriguing. I may be naive, yet I still believe that we as viewers deserve well written shows without the distaste of inflated human drama that has been reality TV. I think that we can grow from the train wreck syndrome of not being able to pull away from people making complete jerks of themselves for pay and start to realize that there is still novel ideas out there and intelligent writers. Reality TV has its place in game shows and the odd hidden camera series that draws upon the young and the old viewers. The time slots of 7pm to 10pm should still be reserved for reserved for shows that entertain. Instead I have to resign to watching DVR of shows on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to avoid this seemingly endless onslaught of contrived melodramatic human tragedy known as Reality TV.
Rookie Blue (2010)
Not a good show
This show has no chance of making it through to next season. There is no realism. I've been a cop for a while and it seems as though the director has no one assisting with the technical details of a cop drama. Tactically everything that they do is wrong, not only the rookies but the supposed seasoned cops. This show makes cops look lazy and disinterested in their dealings with the public. The characters themselves are shown as young and enthusiastic, which is true of most rookie cops. But, if a rookie cop in most jurisdictions acted the way these characters do they would get fired almost immediately. I definitely will not watch any more of this show.
American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
Please go away
I enjoyed the show in the first couple of seasons and enjoyed some of the products that came from this show. But, it is time for this show to go away. I know I have an unpopular view, but I am sick and tired of 3 days of programming being taken up for this seemingly endless parade of over inflated egos and a line up of people whom I never want to see on TV ever again. Not to mention the relentless beating of the dead horse with Idol Rewind and the hours spent on showcasing the worst of the worst in American Karaoke. There has to be a better way for these kids to be discovered and/or rejected than taking up our time and patience. Please go quietly into that good night and don't look back. I think the American public is ready for scripted dramas and comedies again.
Warehouse 13 (2009)
Pretty good show
This show reminds me of the old "Friday the Thirteenth" television show, where two young adults are tasked with locating possessed items that cause problems and lead to the deaths of innocent victims and users of the items. Although this show does remind me of that dark and sinister show, "Warehouse" has a lighter agenda and makes for a well developed television show. I also have to mention that the special effects for a show that appears to have a decent operating budget are pretty good for a weekly television show. The characters are very deep and keep you wanting to learn more about their pasts. If the show does not get canceled, I plan on watching this show on a weekly basis. Thumbs up to SYFY in their new format on a very good and well thought out show.
NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
has some potential
I have been an avid fan of Belasario for many years now and have only seen a few let downs. This show exhibits some great characters and it is a shame that the writing and directing is not keeping up with potential of the show. This show currently reminds me of a cross of Miami Vice and a mass of other terrible 80's cop dramas. I agree with the rest of the comments that mention that there is no real Navy or Marine involvement in a lot of the plots. Also, the fact that the nearest Navy or Marine base is 4 hours away from the current set location makes the reality of a NCIS presence in LA somewhat far reaching. They should have aligned this show with something relating to either NSA or FBI for the types of crimes they are investigating, i.e. espionage and terrorism. I believe that if the show turns towards a more character development route and finds a better suited location the show would take off.
