Rebound (2014)
Great Indie Psychological Thriller
I loved psychological thrillers and I always enjoy seeing an indie film succeed in that genre. REBOUND does jut that. The twists are clever and fulfilling. The plot held my interest and the pacing was good. The filmmakers obviously put a lot of thought into the story and the various layers within it. It warrants a second viewing to catch everything you missed the first go around. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of indie thrillers.
Trolling (2017)
Unique and entertaining indie comedy
001 Trolling is a unique and entertaining indie comedy. It explores the subject of online trolls in a way that you wouldn't expect. This is a refreshing quality.
Independent comedies can be hit or miss, 001 Trolling is a hit particularly due to its use of style and the interesting approach to the subject of online trolling.
Another bonus, it is free to watch if you have an Amazon Prime account, so if you're looking for something fun to watch, I'd highly suggest this film.
Let's Ruin It with Babies (2014)
Great indie film. Worth a watch!
I recently saw this film pop up on Amazon Prime and decided to give it a shot. While it isn't perfect, it is still a really nice indie film, and I really enjoyed it. The acting was quite solid and the storyline kept me interested throughout.
It terms of story and characters, I found both to be quite charming, and the film had the right amount of humor.
Like I said, the acting was solid. I particularly liked the girl who played Channing, however, the entire cast did well as an ensemble.
I look forward to seeing more from this director.
Give it a shot especially if you have a Prime account.
Henry Poole Is Here (2008)
Finally, an indie flick that isn't about drugs, sex, cursing, etc
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I rented it without much awareness of what it was about. Frankly, I had a free rental on my blockbuster account so i decided i was in the mood for a simple indie flick. So i rented it.
I am so happy to finally see a very well made indie film that isn't about drugs, sex, suicide, extreme amounts of cursing, and all the other elements that seem to make up a "good" indie film. I recently saw "The Wackness" and realized how fed up I am with people praising indie films that have no real substance. A lot of them, "the wackness" included, say nothing new and rely completely on the use of drugs, sex, and things like that to be "interesting." HPIH is very refreshing to see. Its a very well made indie flick with a great cast, story, and message. Yes, anytime there are films that deal with religion in a positive sense, people will say that it is contrived or over done, but I thought this film dealt with the subject matter very maturely and enjoyably. I am a Christian guy, but i don't like to watch films that are overly preachy or are just blatantly religious. So, I usually do not enjoy "religious" films. That is why I am so pleased to see a real indie film that just happens to deal with religious subject matter in a positive manner. The film isn't perfect and nor is any other film. But it is a good example of how a film can be moving, entertaining, and just a plain good movie without promoting or recklessly using drugs, sex, cursing, and other crap like that.
I commend the people involved with this project. I am very surprised that it was made outside of the religious film world. Thank you to the people who believed they could make a film like this, and I hope that more people follow.
Chasing the White Dragon (2008)
A very compelling, exciting and emotional indie film
Chasing the White Dragon is a wonderful film that gives you an intense look into the horrors of crystal meth. With the film's fast paced structure, you're never bored and remain deeply engaged in the characters and their stories. You're emotionally attached to the key characters as soon as you're introduced to the horrors in their lives. The story builds to a wonderful climax that will give you chills on many occasions. Apart from the story, the actor's performances, special effects, music, and production value are so well done. The music is one of the many highlights of the film. Kree Harrison's music is exceptional and after you see the film, you'll be dying to have Kree's "What if I Leave Today" on your iPod. This film is a must see for anyone who enjoys and appreciates films that mix intense, fast paced drama with compelling and emotional story lines. Chasing the White Dragon is a very impressive indie film that everyone should look out for on the festival circuit.
