You (2018)
You: Not perfect, but not far off.
You is a psychological drama that feels politically correct. It follows the life of a serial killer and ex bookkeeper "Joe Goldberg".
Penn Badgley was casted as Joe which I think was a perfect casting decision. Badgley makes Joe seem Sinister and imperfect, which is exactly what makes the show so intriguing.
The way the show alters by Joe's thoughts is what keeps it so raw, if it was narrated from a third person perspective, I think the show would be boring but since we are in the eyes of a serial killer, we gain interest in it.
The show also has the correct amount of violence and narration. Action isn't always occurring, which is perfect due to suspense being key in a thriller like this.
The writing is also formed in a way which makes you sometimes side with Joe, which is why Joe is such an important and interesting character.
The show isn't perfect though, there's a lot of "cheesy" aspects to the show which make it seem unrealistic despite realism being the intention.
The directors make Joe seem like the sane one throughout the seasons, which especially with his role, is not what should happen.
A lot of the cast don't get as much air time as they deserve, which is a bummer since many of them are talented actors.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Breaking Bad is almost perfect.
Breaking Bad was a craze in the late 2000s, for the wrong reasons.
Breaking Bad follows the story of a chemistry teacher and an old student, the idea seems taboo hence why the show kicked off so well.
Breaking Bad isn't like other shows based on drugs, instead of Breaking Bad being built on suspense, it's built on patience and likes to take it's time to spread a message.
The reason why I think Breaking Bad has such an impact is because while you watch it you feel almost empty, the beginnings of the episodes seem so dim, but by the time they're over you only begin to take in everything that happens.
The pacing in the show is perfect, when being fed information the show doesn't force you to take it in.
Holidate (2020)
Holidate is the Perfect Christmas Comedy.
Holidate is a 2020 Christmas Comedy. Holidate contains two, who seem to be polar opposites at the beginning, main characters. Sloane & Jackson. Sloane is played by Emma Roberts. Sloane feels real as if she was a real person compared to a manufactured personality, she shows how people really feel and she's more open in comparison to Jackson.
Jackson is looked at as a bit of an idiot and rude person at the start of the film, which is what adds quality to the film. The film no longer feels stereotypical because it's built like Salt & Pepper, you get the best of both worlds.
With the comedy, it's built by not pressuring it onto the audience. Not every moment is trying to be entertaining, it's just trying to keep you interested, you can't tell when the comedy's going occur which makes it better instead of it being consistent jokes.
Never Have I Ever (2020)
Chasing The Wrong Audience
"Never Have I Ever" seems to be a quirky story, of a girl trying to fall in love. The show's written oddly in my opinion. It feels like it's been "Dumbed Down" to a family friendly show especially with the show facing problems only early teenagers would face.
I commonly See the theme where it's mentioning sex as some sort of glamor, which at the age of 12, you wouldn't be having those thoughts.
It creates unrealistic expectations for sex, which is not exactly what a 12 year old's impression should be like.
