Westworld (2016)
Overhated Quality Television
Westworld is a wild show! Sadly the show got canceled after 4 seasons, but Westworld still remains one of HBOs most expensive/unique shows. The Show has an all star cast and Evan Rachel Wood & Thandie Newton shine throughout the run time of the series. It arguably has the best first season to a show ever! It's so convoluted and wildly entertaining with many twist and mind boggling moments. A popular opinion about this show is that it went to crap after season 1, which is blown out of proportion a bit. While season 1 is a masterpiece, season 2 is still very solid and entertaining, season 3 is a bit of a let down, then season 4 is pure insanity. Sadly the show couldn't get the closure it was going to get, but it has some of the most thrilling sci- fi moments. Westworld is quality television that is worth diving into.
Barry (2018)
Brilliant Show
Barry is a one of a kind show that showcases Bill Haders skills as a force to be reckoned with in the movie industry. During the shows 4 seasons run it remained different and ended on such a clever note, and best of all it knew when to end. Each episode is about 30 minutes long 45 at the most but it feels so dense and crafted so well that you actually get good content from Barry. The show is so great because it's a dark comedy& a hit man action series and blends the two together perfectly. The show has a variety of vibrant characters that are likable and fun to watch. The story for the first season is particularly Brilliant and sets the ground for the rest of the series. Sarah Goldberg has some of the best acting chops i've seen in a tv show. Theres too many reasons go watch Barry it's just too entertaining to miss out on.
The Shield (2002)
Masterpiece
The Shield was a juggernaut hit for FX. It was ground breaking, it pushed the envelope for storytelling on television, and still holds up and is a pure classic. The show is very bold and dark and goes places I never expected. The show works because of its high octane atmosphere and story. This show keeps you on your toes because something's always going on or goes wrong. It's constantly quality television every season and is really refreshing to watch. The character assemble that's in this show is so strong, all the characters are flawed but real. The final season of the show is a wave of emotions because the story comes to a beautiful tragic ending that you never really see coming.
Sons of Anarchy (2008)
Great Television
Sons of Anarchy is great television but flawed to a fault. The flaws of SoA are very minor and the greatness of this series overshadows it by a long shot. The only problems the series has in my eyes is uncalled for humor, small little plot holes in the story, and noticeable cgi in very few parts. The show excels with a stacked cast of stars, twisted dark storytelling which make for tragic elements, and tons of blood. The show doesn't hold back on violence which make it one of the goriest crime drama series to date. Jax and Gemma's characters in the show are so complex and have a very bold storyline throughout the show. Lots of good side characters lots of shocking deaths. And an overall good finale for the show that felt like it stayed true to itself by the end.
The Americans (2013)
The Best Thriller!
The Americans is probably my favorite show of all time. It's so unique and ambitious, with a one of a kind story. The shows two leads are some of the best characters in all of television. Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys have such incredible chemistry it was no shocker to me that they are together in real life. The show is a spy thriller of the highest order. Some seasons are more action packed then others, but at the core the show is about how the spy life can affect a normal family in all sorts of ways. It's consistent in quality and has arguably the best series finale to a show. The ending is so heartbreaking and sad but so well done. Definitely a top tier crime drama series.
Justified (2010)
Unjustifiably Underrated
Justified has got to be one of the best crime dramas to date. With Timothy Olyphant & Walton Goggins at the helm... this show just works so well. It's witty, funny, shocking, and surprisingly grim at times. It's also one of the best shows ever written, the dialogues are so damn good. The show also has strong villains and doesn't seem to drop in quality over the 6 season run. Lively characters and the unique neo western style make Justified all the more memorable. Some seasons are better than others but all are worth watching. It's a crime the show isn't talked about as much because it could be argued that it's FXs best show. Justified is such a strong show that it spawned a spinoff which is looking good so far. Overall watch Justified because the hype is certainly Justified.
The Expanse (2015)
A Thrilling Sci-fi Journey!
The Expanse is an ambitious Sci-fi series with many likable characters and amazing visuals. The Expanse has amazing world building which make the world richer and easier to get sucked into. The mystery elements and realistic Sci-fi aspects of the series make it all the more a gripping watch. Each season feels differently from one other while beginning and closing the main story. There's many shocking moments that propel the story forward. And the political aspects of the show might be its strongest trait. With complex plots that take time to unravel, The Expanse is a must watch Sci-fi series. Along with an awesome assembled group of characters, The Expanse is one not to be missed!!
Breaking Bad (2008)
Tv Perfection!
Breaking Bad is a certified top 3 show of all time. Watching Walter White slowly sink into the crime world was just amazing to watch. Thanks to Bryan Cranstons outstanding performance this series is worth watching solely just because of him. You can't forget the best slightly funny, chaotic, crime duo of all time Walter White & Jesse Pinkman. Breaking Bad can be hilarious at times, but is visceral more than anything. The shocking moments are unforgettable, the sad moments are undeniably sad. The character development not only from our crime duo, but from all our supporting players, it was all just so well done, and will forever be the best series AMC has to offer. And the amazing story lives on thanks to its successor Better Call Saul. The best crime drama story on television no doubt.
Game of Thrones (2011)
An Epic Fantasy Series!
Game of Thrones has its flaws but it can't be denied that it's one of the most watched, popular and cherished shows by HBO. The production design alone still holds up and will most likely always. The cinematography is so gorgeous, the VFX is superb, unforgettable battles, brutal moments, heartwarming moments, Game of Thrones has it all! With a vast cast of characters, Game of Thrones juggles it's characters so impressively well. Not to mention Game of Thrones is full of complex grey characters, which I personally love. The only flaw I've seen in the series was bad choppy action sequences in one episode. Ive always felt that the music and character dynamics was the heart of Game of Thrones and believe it or not, we got that throughout all 8 seasons. Game of Thrones not only left one hell of a imprint in the television world, but set up success for other series to come from the world of Westeros, and is definitely a must watch. Don't let the bad reviews fool you!!
Banshee (2013)
Unforgivably Entertaining!!
Banchee has to be the best action series to date. Every action sequence is so well crafted it's truly phenomenal to watch. Antony Starr plays an outstanding role throughout the series, his characters journey is pure insanity. There are so many good supporting characters and villains in the show, that make it so binge worthy and hard to stay away. Banchee also gives a very unique vibe in its scenery and has a slight old town Texas feel. The gore in the show is very present and very graphic, and makes most other shows and movies look like child's play. Not to mention thrilling plots season after season. Banchee is also directed so differently, and makes Banchee all the more unique from other shows. There's no other show like Banchee, and it shouldn't be overlooked.
Band of Brothers (2001)
The Perfect Show!
Without a doubt a must watch tv show. Band of Brothers is very gruesome, graphic, authentic tv show but most of all very gripping. The performances from everyone on screen was nothing short of phenomenal. There are so many "hell breaking loose" moments in the show that are so sudden that it's almost impossible not to rewind. The emotional moments throughout the series is beyond count. Band of Brothers has its happy moments, but it's overall just a heartbreaking show at its core. One of the best depictions of war ever put on the small screen. Easily one of the best shows HBO has to offer, and 21 years later the show is as cinematic as movies today. This show is a perfect example of art in the television world, and an all time classic.
Black Sails (2014)
Hidden Gem!
Black Sails is a gritty realistic period piece with an awesome line up of characters, and beautiful cinematography. The dialogue in Black Sail is very layered and the character development is perfect, all thanks to the believable performances. There's many twists, brutal moments, and epic battles. It's the most realistic pirate show out there. With an obvious attention to detail and epic scale, you really feel like your in that world. And the amazing world building just makes Black Sails denser . Also the unforgettable duo Captain Flint & Long John Silver, was just so great to watch. Black Sails is Stellar Television don't miss out!!
Ozark (2017)
Extremely Thrilling!!
Ozark is a unforgivably dark crime drama with unforgettable performances and moments. It masters tension for pretty much every scene. Ozark also has a very unique scenery which gives it all the more flavor. Outstanding performances all around especially from Jason Bateman, Julia Garner, and Laura Linney. And the fact that Jason Bateman was behind the camera directing as well, is all the more impressive. Great job to everyone involved. Ozark is not afraid to go full on dark mode, which I personally love. There is hardly any happy moments. In my eyes Ozark isn't a "Breaking Bad Knock Off" but a masterpiece in its own way, and is definitely worth watching.
Boardwalk Empire (2010)
One of HBOs finest shows!!
This show is pure art!! It's easily one of the best gangster dramas out there. From the amazing lead performance from Steve Buscemi, to the precise attention to detail, the casting, and most of all the production design... Man it's just breathtaking at times. Each episode feels like a movie and is very cinematic. Boardwalk Empire can be surprisingly funny at times, but at it's core it remains a very dark lavish show with lots of twists.
