Moonlight (2007)
Amusing, charming, though have an open mind
Now, just to begin, I am quite a large fan of Angel, and, whilst I prefer not to compare shows, I feel that these two have far too many similarities to just ignore their likeness to each other.
As I was saying, I am quite a large fan of Angel, so when I first read the description of this show I was, shall I say, a little confused. A vampire who works for the good of the human population as a private investigator. I had my doubts about the show, so, naturally, I saw an episode the first chance I received, and I have to say I was quite amused.
Moonlight doesn't quite take a new spin on vampires, but I have to admit, it held my attention through the whole episode. The show is much more serious than I had expected, and because of that some of the scenes just made me laugh out loud (even when they weren't meant to . . .). Sometimes a character or situation was just so outlandishly funny I couldn't help myself but chuckle (the scene at the end of the second episode really caught me off guard).
But, before you go away to either watch an episode or pretend you never read this, I would just like to mention that if you are looking for a bad show, that is exactly what you will find. Keep an open mind when watching this, and try not to dwell in the similarities between the shows, because you will just get disappointment. Never seen Angel? This is a charming show. Looking for a new show to kill some time with? Check Moonlight out; at the very least you will have some new vampire light to shine on your friends. Again, I want to stress that is was amusing and held my short attention, so give it a shot before dismissing it.
Cheers.
H2O: Just Add Water (2006)
Just Plain Fun
One of my friends recommended this show to me, and once I saw the first episode, I didn't really know what to think.
The story starts off with Cleo being the main focus, and jumping right into her life, with her friends, enemies and family.
Who are the people she is talking to? The story starts off slow, and if you are only planning on seeing the first episode, steer away right now. The characters' backgrounds and personalities are built up over the first few episodes, along with how they can cope with what is happening to them, but you have to stick with it or it won't make any sense.
Cleo is talking to this girl who is swimming, Emma. Emma is an important character int he story, as without her I am sure Cleo and Rikki would have been goners from the start.
So, we meet Rikki, who stole something off someone's boat (Note to self : watch my wallet around her), and valiantly jumps into the boat she stole the item from, which Cleo is now in. Now, my first impression of Rikki: Loud mouthed and cheeky. It turns out I wasn't that far off, but, in the end, it makes the show all the better. The 3 girls' personalities even out over the episodes.
And well, we have the main characters: Emma, the cautious one, Rikki, the one in-your-face one, and Cleo, the . . . I am not really sure how to describe her. Off the top of my head I would say 'annoying', but I think there are depths to her personality that I keep overlooking.
Then there is Lewis. Having known Cleo for who knows how long, he is seen often, as more of a comic relief character who thinks he is a scientist, and is usually, if not asking the girls for hair samples, trying to figure out what is up with them.
All in all, I would say this is a great, fun show. The plot is, in fact, thicker than I would have thought possible from watching the first episode (So stick to it!). It has a great assortment of characters (though, I do think a few skip between in and out of character), and plot twists when you least expect it (or think nothing else can go wrong for the three). So, I give this show 8/10 rating, for a great plot, good humor, and episodes that you want to see at least twice.
Max Magician and the Legend of the Rings (2002)
So bad it is fun
I saw this movie out of boredom and, well, I can't say I wasn't entertained. The combination of unsynchronized audio/visual, the acting, and special effects made me want to watch it over and over again. Indeed, I know little to nothing about movie editing, but after watching this I began to appreciate just how difficult it is to match audio/visual. And, I can imagine how much more difficult it is to make it appear as if a hawk or mouse is talking, even if there is no need show lip movements. I say this is one of the few movies that I can't compare to any other movies. While most motion pictures get boring after watching them repeatedly, I get the same kick out of this film as I got when I first watched it. And, so I give it my rating of three stars, for a funny movie that I can watch with anyone, anytime, and will always receive the same reaction: Why did you buy this?
