Paradise Now (2005)
Don't Believe the Hype
This is a movie that was gonna be made no matter what. The topic matter is just so timely right now. Thing is while the idea is great the execution of this film is totally weak. It starts off slow, but in a goof 70's film way. A real character piece...but once the second act shows up, the movie just falls apart...the character just runs around lost... I just think of the potential of this film...here's a guy walking around Israel with a bomb on his chest. He can kill whoever he wants at any time...(and I'm not talking about a horror/ action way...but in the good kind of drama way)
imagine the tension as he could pick his targets, and then maybe talk with the people before he decides to explode or move on to a different target. He does do this once...but the scene only really plays out on one level...they could have gone way deeper.
Instead, the movie waste it's time on the hero just retracing his steps and going back to where he came from. Pretty much recycling the 1st act...no new information is really gained.
Then u got his buddy driving around in a car, searching for him...total waste of time. Finally when u get into the deeper debates and stuff...it's just two people talking about a political ideology....this is film? They could have used the time the hero was running around not talking, to bump into other people and have these different viewpoints expressed visually...
Sure it was cool to see what life is let in the West Bank compared to Israel..but that's just splatter..u shoot a movie there, that's all gonna be in the background...it's natural by product.
And the end is pretty much American Graffti, with the head strong guy backing out and the wimp, going forward.
In short cool idea very poor execution....it's like a B film with a 'important' topic.
The Evidence (2006)
Cool Show---QUESTION that NEEDS answering???
Caught this show between TIVO'd versions of SVU. I kind of liked it. SVU is my favorite Law and Order ...I like the fact that instead of just catching criminals they have some personal stuff going on with Bensen and Stabler... That's what I liked about this show...It's more like CSI in video effects, but the main characters seem to have back stories and personal lives. Personally I need more shows like SVU I've almost seen every episode and CSI just doesn't do it for me...I hope this one, turns out to be good. It also reminds me of that old Orson Welles Radio show the Black Museum, where the talk about the murder weapons or evidence at the beginning and then tell the story... Does anyone know who plays the dead wife? She's looks hot...is she in anything else????
