Snack Shack (2024)

Just can't get into it

I can't get into this movie. I had to quit a little bit more than halfway through. It's so terribly boring and one of the biggest things that is annoying me about this movie is that I just can't lose myself in it because the actors are in their 20s playing 14 year olds. They don't look 14 years old, they don't walk and talk like 14 year olds, and they don't do things that 14 year olds do, or did in 1991. There's just nothing about them that is believable even a little bit. As for the story itself well, there really isn't much of one. There's nothing compelling unique or original about this movie. Nothing to grab your attention and certainly nothing to keep it. Hard pass.

I wasn't going to write a review but then I noticed that this had quite a low rating and I just don't understand why. It may not be the funniest comedy movie of all time but this had me laughing out loud several times throughout which is kind of rare these days. The last few years, there really hasn't been that many great comedies come out so perhaps my standards are a bit lower than they used to be at this point but regardless, this is quite a funny movie nonetheless. John Cena had me laughing a lot more than I ever expected. I was quite surprised. Him doing the Rock Hard Rod routine had me rolling! It's a fun movie with silly but hilarious humor. I give it an 8 but if I was comparing it to just comedies in the last 7-8 years, I'd give it a 9 or 10. I am having trouble remember what movies recently have made me laugh much more.

I was hoping for more

I was hoping for more, a lot more. When I heard about this series and saw that it was Ron Laflamme, I expected it to be quite funny. Maybe not Silicon Valley funny but still, I did expect it to be a lot funnier than it was. First episode failed to grab my attention completely. A man goes to a very very small town, if you can call it that, where the population is 11. Unfortunately the entire cast of characters is just weird for weirdness' sake. There's no rhyme or reason to their ultra strange behavior. It's just random weirdness and I guess some people find that funny but I don't. There's no wit or real humor here.

A good movie until it wasn't

I hate that I hated this movie because I loved it until I hated it. It was really a great movie until they ruined it with the ending leaving you with nothing. The problem is that they built suspense for the entire runtime making you think that they are leading up to something big and amazing but instead you are just left with the credits rolling. Imagine going into a movie and watching it for an hour and a half but then the projector breaks down 20 minutes before the end of the movie. That's kind of how this felt. Lol. I can't believe something like this got green lighted the way it is. People saying that the ending is the point are crazy in my opinion. The point of a movie is to tell me a story not just the first part of it.

Couldn't get into it

I found it really difficult to get into this show. The acting was terrible and the scenes just seemed contrived and overacted. Overly dramatic. Given the reviews, I was hoping for more but I was left disappointed and I could not maintain my interest past the first episode. I'm surprised that it was not better than this given some of the big names attached to this series. I would have expected much better quality from these names but I guess not. It just seemed to me like a whole bunch of cliches based on trite stereotypes. Nothing new or fresh or interesting here in my opinion but of course your opinion may differ.

The Fear Index (2022)

Gave up after 2 episodes

The show seems to be based on an interesting idea and revolves around an interesting theme, trading, but nothing interesting actually happens. I gave up after the second episode because it spends all its time suspense building but never actually really moves the story forward. The acting is quite bad as well.

I wanted this show to be better but it just didn't get there for me. Even throughout the first two episodes I found that I had to mentally push through to get through them but finally I just had to give up at the end of the second episode. I didn't see any point in trying to invest more time in the third and fourth period I didn't have any faith that they would tie it up properly.

Annihilation (I) (2018)

Worst movie I've seen in a very long time

This movie was terrible. The first half although very very slow and moving at a glacial pace at least I thought might be building up to something but it was all for naught.

The second-half was as torturous watching the film as the characters seemed to be going through in the film. There was no plot no story no meaning that I could discern. I honestly have no clue what the hell I just watched. If you asked me to describe this story I literally would not be able to other than to say four women went into this mysterious area where random weird stuff happened the entire time. For some reason that I could not ascribe any meaning to the main character kept having flashbacks back to her relationship with her boyfriend or husband whatever he was. That's it. I don't know if this qualifies as a spoiler or not since the movie is such garbage that it's meaningless anyway. I only gave it a two because I like to think that there must be worse movies out there somewhere and one day when I find one I will have to give that one a 1.

American Fiction (2023)

Coulda been an easy 8

I found this movie so frustrating because it didn't know what it wanted to be.

It had "potential" -- which is what people see when what's in front of them isn't good enough. This movie had me rolling with its satire and some fantastically dry, understated jokes. ("It's essential to listen to black voices right now.") It had lots to say about the black experience in America today, and set you up to think it would deliver, but instead...

....the comedy and satire, its real brilliance, was overshadowed by the heavy-handed and depressing family drama, that, at least to me, didn't seem to have a message of its own, not did it seem to have anything to do with the comedy side.

So half of the movie to me is an easy 8 and I loved it, but the other half I give a 3 because it bored me and at one point I almost turned it off. Overall, I guess it's a 5 for me.

Ferrari (2023)

You have to be a incredibly talented to take a subject matter like Ferrari and make a film as dull as this one

I'm astounded at the brilliance of Michael Mann and his ability to take the life story of Enzo Ferrari and make it into one of the most boring movies I've seen this past year. This is talent that is rarely seen. Were you hoping to find out how Enzo Ferrari got into racing cars? Were you hoping to find out how he got into making some of the most classic luxury sports cars in the world? Were you wondering how he started the company and turned it into the behemoth that it is today? Were you wondering what challenges he had to overcome to establish one of the most premium reputations ever known? This movie answers none of those questions but if you wondered what kind of fights he had with his wife, then this movie is for you.

Ambulance (2022)

Nothing but a bunch of shaking cam action

Title says it all. It's boring. I guess if you like to see bullets and crashes for their own sake and that's it, then this movie is for you. Otherwise, pass.

Awful, boring, dumb movie

As others have mentioned, the acting is atrocious. 100% robotic, wooden acting. I think some things were meant to be dark comedy, humorous absurdity, but it's hard to tell because the movie is SO bad that it's impossible to know whether they were going for that or if it's just the scriptwriters being so bad that they have no idea how humans talk. If they were jokes, they didn't work. At all. Managed to slog through 1/3 of it but that's all I could take. Didn't even get to see Aaron Paul.

A spoiler-free review (because nothing happens and there's nothing to spoil)!

Great cast and an interesting idea but it's all ruined by the pacing. It's soooooooooooo slow. The entire show is filled with pointlessly long and boring shots of mundane actions. Just as one example, in episode 1, there's a scene where Adam Scott's character enters and elevator and walks through hallways to get to his destination. There is about 5 seconds of meaningful footage out of 30 seconds of just watching him stand in the elevator with nothing else happening. But the shot ain't done yet. Nope. After he gets off the elevator, we are treated to, get this, 1 minute and 45 seconds of him walking through hallways. Nothing happens to contribute to the story. It's just him walking in an office building to his desk... for nearly two minutes of nothingness. This is just one example and the show is filled with these types of scenes. Too bad. I was hoping for something decent when I saw who's all involved.

Don't Look Up (2021)

Watch this is you're starstruck

The only people giving this more than a 5 or 6 are those who are starstruck and can't stop gushing about the incredible cast. If having a bunch of A-list actors in and of itself makes this a good movie for you, great, glad you enjoyed it. Other than that though, it's not much more than a way to kill time during a snowstorm. It's ok, but that's it.

Wow, didn't last a minute

I can't review the movie. I never had the chance to see it because the shaky cam and nearly every shot being a closeup was unbearable. I did skip ahead a bit to see if it might be just the first few minutes, but no, it's the whole movie. Oh wait, I CAN review this movie because a movie isn't supposed to make you hate it within a minute and quite honestly deserves some kind of award.

Was this film funded by Tourism Canada? Lol. I swear, the entire time I thought I was watching what was essentially a video postcard. They really went out of their way to get as many landscapes in as they could and the word Toronto was either mentioned of seen at least 10 times. Otherwise a pretty mediocre romcom with some non-sensical scenes thrown in, (like why was the sister an evil witch for no reason? We're talking serious mental illness-like behavior and it's never mentioned how mean and rude she is. Also unlikely her friends would be friends with her. If you're in quarantine and have seen everything on Netflix, give this one a go.

That's all I could take of it. This was cringe right from the get go. First scene. As if a 911 operator would get away with that kind of behavior. And it was downhill from there. One of the worst movies I've seen. This sucked so hard, Dyson is making their engineers watch it for inspiration.
