So-won (2013)
Best true story movie I've watched yet.
This movie deals with the heavy topic of sexual assault against children, with the intention of helping people who have been in a similar situation to regain hope and see the good in life again, and the movie did its job very well. The actors in this movie were all great, Sol Kyung-gu, and Lee Re, especially, are extremely talented actors. I heard of this movie from a video I was watching on the Cho Doo Soon case, and I decided to watch it because the cover looked nothing like what I imagined the film to be about. This film is based off the 2008 Na-young case, but the majority of the film is about the little girl's recovery from the terrible, traumatic event. The writers stated that they wanted to "make a happy movie that begins with a tragedy." And the movie was exactly that.
I think that this movie is very emotional, and it almost feels as though the viewer carries the burden with the characters. It's very easy to sympathize with the characters in this movie, because of how realistic both the situation and the characters are. As So-won is in immense pain, and undergoing numerous surgeries to save her life, her parents are struggling to find a balance between looking after their only daughter, and working so they have the money to continue helping her through it. All characters in this movie were very realistic. Although the bad man wasn't likably, for obvious reasons, his character was really realistic, and I wanted to punch him when he kept saying that he was drunk and couldn't remember.
I thought that the father was portrayed really well. He was clearly hardworking, but at first, he didn't think family time was very important. That was, until his daughter's life was on the line, and he finally realized what situation they were in. From then, he always tried to accompany her, even if he had work, he would try his best, even researching how to talk to her after it happened. I'm also really impressed with Lee Re's acting as So-won. She was only seven when they were filming Hope, and this was also her debut. To have to act in such an emotional movie as a debut is just really impressive to me, as someone who isn't very emotional. Of course, the acting of the other characters was very good as well.
Do-ga-ni (2011)
Disturbing, but worth a watch.
To start off, the quality of this film was extremely good for having been published in 2011. The film is definitely disturbing, and some scenes can even be considered traumatizing, especially for little kids, but the film was powerful as well, and the actors are all amazing.
I thought that the beginning of the film was a bit slow. There were many ways to introduce the two characters, and I think the way they chose wasn't brilliant, but the movie started off well when that scene ended. I thought that In-ho's character was a bit dense. He experienced the kids avoiding, even running away from him on his first day at the school but didn't question it much, and believed whatever the principal told him, which was that it was normal behavior. Due to his character being more passive than he should've been, I did like Yoo-jin as a character more. I think that all three child actors did an amazing job at portraying their characters, and I especially liked Min-su (Baek Seung-hwan)'s acting. I thought that his acting was very realistic, and the ending scene really made his character seem more realistic, as it showed that he was capable, and had his own train of thought, which he follows.
Before watching this film, I was aware that this case was based off a true story of a mute-deaf school in South Korea, however, I always find it easier to understand cases if there are films based off them, and this film was definitely realistic. It depicted the events which actually occured at the school. Overall, good film.

Spreads awareness, good movie.
I just started watching Korean crime and other true story movies a while ago, and I haven't watched many, but this one is pretty good. I think that most, if not all protagonists/characters in this movie are quite likable, except for the abusive parents, of course. The actor who played the lawyer is very talented. He is caring to the children, while also being able to focus on his job and promotions. Both kids acted very well for being very young, and the movie is realistic.
