Savannah Smiles (1982)
Hearts Will Be Broken
I love this movie and have probably seen it 6 or 7 times, but not lately. It's a simple story, well written and acted. A little girl runs away and gets mixed up with two bungling "bad" guys, neither one of whom seems that bad by the end of the movie. Savannah is just too cute without overdoing it. There are plenty of heartwarming moments and if your not charmed, then check your pulse. The ending always makes me cry, but not in a bad way. It's a movie about redemption, healing and hope, a little vacation from bad news that you can watch with your kids.
Find it, rent it, keep it and share it. You won't regret it.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
What were they thinking?
This was a horrible movie. It just defies explanation. They must have been using some serious drugs while writing and editing. Oh yeah, this would be cool. It must have seemed cool at the moment, but apparently nobody checked it after they sobered up. It's like they ran out of money and time and just didn't care. The only real question I have is how did they get that great case, Angelica Huston, Bill Murray, Kate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, William Dafoe...
What a colossal waste. The only and I mean only positive feature of this film was the cool soundtrack by Seu Jorge singing David Bowie tunes. That at least provide some small relief from the tediousness of this film.
OK, I feel better now.
