Quantum of Solace (2008)
Too fast, not enough depth.
I went into the QOS last night after creeping me and my 9 friends in to the middle of the huge queue. We got in to the cinema and were excited as the rest of the full cinema was. The first shots are very nice, panning over the river and glances of the car and bond, but then the action kicks in and you can't tell who is who. The film continues in this way throughout the film. You see in the Bourne films, where they have the shaky camera style but you can see whats going on? In QOS, you have the shaky camera style but you can't see whats going on. There is not enough scenes where there is no fighting or action, the action took up easily about 85% of the film. You felt as though you needed a poker game or something like that.
The end however, the very end, there was a very good scene with bond meeting vespers ex- boyfriend which was what the film needed more of, good scenes like that.
If this wasn't a James bond film it would be a forgettable mediocre action movie.
I was expecting a film as good as casino royale, possibly even better which a director like marc foster. Such a disappointment. =(
The Prestige (2006)
My Favorite Film Of All Time.
The Prestige, is a film about love, friendship, rivalry, competition, and magic. The film is Christian Bale (Borden) and Hugh Jackman (Angier) who are friends and become enemies as they compete with each other for a number of reasons.
Christopher Nolan, the director is perfect for this film, he creates an atmosphere perfect for every scene, will his leads act throughout this atmosphere like it's their own creation. Wally Pfister, director of cinematography should have won an Oscar for this, exaggeration? Watch the film yourself.
I can guarantee that you will love this film. Sit down with a plate of nachos, and watch. A brilliant film, which will consume you, and make you want to watch it over and over again.
Are you watching closely?
Batman Begins (2005)
Believe the hype. Amazing movie.
This is the greatest superhero film of all time. Basically.
After seeing this film more than two years ago, i just had to comment on it. This film you can watch over and over again and never get bored. Its a super super enjoyable film.
Batman is done right for once! He is given a real, substantial story, which takes up a lot of the film, which is not a bad thing. Compared to this, all the other batman films, even Batman '89 is pants. Granted '89 had the joker, but look how it starts, with batman just there. In begins, it explains, and it pays off greatly.
The acting is pin point perfect. The direction is perfect, Christopher Nolan was known for indie movies, but he's now proved he can do more genres, with making this batman film. In a way this doesn't feel like a batman film, apart from the guy dressed as a bat. Its a lot darker, a lot more realistic, and a hell of a lot better!
If you haven't seen this film, i strongly recommend you go and and buy this now.
All we can do, is wait until The Dark Knight - The follow up, same cast, same director, but with the joker. I think that could be the only batman, or superhero movie that could ever top this.
Do you know what? I think i'm going to go watch batman begins again...
Life on Mars (2006)
The Best BBC Programme Ever!
What can i say about Life On Mars?
It simply is the best ever show to be broadcast on the BBC. John Simm (Tyler) and Philip Glenister (Hunt) are absolutely perfect casting, acted to perfection. Other great addition are Marshall Lancaster (Chris) and Deans Andrews (Ray) and Liz White (Annie).
The plot of each and every episode are great, not one episode isn't original in some way.
When i got series 1 & 2 on DVD, i told my friends about it and asked if they liked it. They said they hadn't seen it, so i lent it to them, and now they're as bigger fans as i am!
This is truly a great show, that i recommend anybody should watch. I promise you wont be disappointed.
GATTACA (1997)
Should be in the top 250.
This is so great on so many levels. The acting was perfect. The plot was so unbelievably awesome. The direction was great (im surprised Andrew Niccol hasn't done more films) The film on the whole was excellent. It is definitely up there with my favourites. All i can say is that you must watch this film. My friend told me to watch it, i wasn't really bothered but when i did i was pleasantly surprised.
I am honestly shocked that i had never heard of this film before my friend told me about it, i thought it would of had as much publicity as one of the same genre, as minority report, but unfortunately it didn't.
A outstanding film, which is hard to believe its not in the top 250.
