Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Powerful It Is
I couldn't speak for ages after the film due to the lump in my throat. What a POWERFUL film - knowing what happens just made the experience more incredible. There are not enough words to describe the feeling this film gives you. George Lucas did a fantastic job and I feel I have experienced cinema history.
I wouldn't say all the film was brilliant - as a stand alone story it was very good but because we know the after in episodes 4-6 it just brings about a feeling of hope with regret.
The acting was on par - all the main cast did an excellent job. Hayden (Anakin / Darth Vader) made me believe in his struggle with the dark side. Ewan (Obi Wan) convinced me of his turmoil.
I don't think I will watch the film again when it comes out on DVD for a long time - it is a one-off experience in terms of emotion and I'm not sure if I want to experience it again! Thank you George Lucas for your vision and extraordinary abilities in joining the films together.
Be Cool (2005)
Am I the only one who cringed?
Having watched Be Cool I feel I wasted my time and money on a huge pile of rubbish! John Travolta had one expression only - bored! Other fine actors like Uma & Harvey acted embarrassed to be seen in such utter tripe! The script was horrible, full of clichés and so NOT funny! I hated how much time was devoted to Christina singing. As a movie lover who always finds something good to see in every film, I was astonished how bad it was and nearly left after the first 30 minutes. I've nothing against the actors, in fact I like their films normally but this was poor acting, bad script in the extreme! Even the dancing scene was poor and unexciting. The Rock was the only likable actor in the whole thing and caused me to smile just a little. I am going to rewatch Get Shortly and remind myself what I liked about John as Chili!
Replicant (2001)
From a Van Damme fan, bored with his latest films!
I saw this at the weekend whilst flicking through the channels. Having been a Van Damme fan for many years but bored by his latest offerings I was expecting to be switching to another channel very soon!
But oh no, this was a good film and Van Damme as the replicant was allowed to show off a standard of acting we haven't seen from him for many years. The film had the standard Van Damme action and violence sequences but there was actually a plot and I found myself caring about the characters of The Replicant and Jake. To be honest as a true softy I was gutted at the supposed ending!
Van Damme showed vulnerbility, feeling and emotion and also as the dark character 'The Torch' it was easy to forget this was also played by Van Damme. Not your straight forward action film, one with something to please most of us. How disappointing it went straight to video, a good promotion campaign and it would have been excellent to watch on the big screen.
I really felt that Van Damme proved he has still got what it takes to bring in an audience and hope any of his future films at least try and reach the same standard.
Overall, loved it - what to see it again and will no doubt buy the DVD!
Ultimate Force (2002)
More Please...
I loved 'Ultimate Force' - it gave us action, suspense and good story lines. The main characters were developed enough without getting in the way of the action; which really was what I wanted to watch. Jamie Draven was absolutely brilliant and had some of the better storylines; whereas Ross Kemp was good in the role but just a legal / authorised version of Grant Mitchell. Please give us a second series - I can't wait!
Mr. Merlin (1981)
TV Series of My Teenage Years
This short-lived series was the ultimate for me as a teenager. I thought Clark Brandon was great and he was my heartthrob. It was a fun programme and disappointingly lasted just one series and never been repeated! All you 'Mr. Merlin' fans write to the network and demand re-runs!
Blade II (2002)
Awesome!
God, I loved this film! Forget realism, just sit back and enjoy the pace. It's exhilarating and fast action. It's violent (very violent in fact)but the pace means you are on to the next bit of action before it all registers. Wesley Snipes is 'perfection' and whilst it was not as character driven as the first, it was fun throughout. The fight sequences were well choreographed and it was a breathtaking display of skills and martial arts. The 'traitor' was totally unexpected and added an edge to the film. I can't wait for 'Blade 3'! Bring on the vampires. P.S. Luke Goss doesn't sing!
