I should have known. Poitier = Acting 101
19 February 2007
I saw this title coming up on TCM, read the synopsis, and KNEW instantly that this one I had to see. And like I said, I should have known. Poitier is probably one of the top ten dramatic actors of ALL TIME! I'm not sure I've ever seen a bad film that he was in. This little gem, was tremendous. I don't comment on many film's but when I see one I haven't seen before, and it's as good as this one, I can't restrain myself. Watch it when/if you can, and you won't be disappointed! There are many subplots and twists to this film, and it has many fine performances, including Telly Savalas, and Ann Bancroft. There are small parts, for a young Dabney Coleman, and one of Ed Asner's early ones as well. I am a classic movie buff, with over 800 titles in my library, and I simply love it when I come across a new one that I hadn't seen/heard of before. Like I said, Watch this one when/if you can.

Funnier than I expected. Martin had some very big shoes...

to fill, and came away almost scot-clean. Although not quite up to Sellers in the comedic timing department. He is very much his equal in the mangling of whatever language he was trying to speak. I have all of the previous Panther installments in my video library, and treasure them greatly. I always laugh out loud whenever I view them. I believe this installment will bring me the same pleasure. I took my 14 year old daughter, and she as well was rolling in her seat. As was the entire theater we were in. And as always, when a comedic masterpiece has been viewed by the 10-16 year old male audience, you will hear the funniest lines quoted all the way out of the theater. "Ah wood lock to bah uh AM-bourg-air!" Instant Classic!

Charles Laughton gives a once-in-a-million performance!
18 August 2003
Outstanding!...is the only way to describe this film. A supreme story with fabulous acting, humor, mystery, drama, and suspense. It simply has it all. Laughton's witty/cantankerous humor is hilarious. The story from Agatha Christie is filled with twists and turns, and keeps you guessing throughout. There might have been one to many twists at the end, but all-in-all, this is a superior film worthy of its lofty ratings. 10/10 in my book.

Dreadful! I don't think I watched the same title as most of you.

I simply can't believe, that there are this many individuals who think this movie is an "All-Timer". Classic movies are just about all I ever watch. And this one will never be viewed again by my eyes. It might have been the worst movie that I've ever seen. I was all pumped up after reading all of the reviews, and was even taping it for the future. But I found myself getting more and more p'oed at the fact that I had just wasted an hour and a half of my time. I shut the VCR off, and came directly here to voice my OPINION. Now I feel better. If this is one of the best movies ever made, what does that make Grapes of Wrath? Heaven Above? Thats about the difference between those two movies. Night of the Hunter has to be the most over-rated movie of ALL TIME!
