Southland (2009–2013)

Awesome program!
19 August 2010
Southland is a great show, didn't know anything about it when i watched the first episode but i've been watching every episode since.

Everything from the story, script, stunts and action is executed brilliantly.

The acting from all the cast is great, especially since most of them are unheard of, most of the individual episodes are based on Officer Ben Sherman played by Ben McKenzie known from being in "the OC" he plays the character excellently, all the other cast perform well also.

I'll continue watching this series until it ends and i'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys well made police dramas.

Solomon Kane (2009)
7/10
solid film.
11 March 2010
Solomon Kane I'll start by pointing out that in no way is SK a copy of Van Helsing, the media and certain unaware people have been comparing the two just due to the characters clothing resemblance like the big hat, well Solomon Kane has been wearing the big hat since he was created in 1928 as stories written in weird tales, where as the 2004 movie van helsing was the first time the character had been portrayed wearing the big hat and being a monster hunter rather than just the killer of count Dracula, if anything the 04 VH movie copied Solomon Kane, anyway moving on to the review:

I was excited about seeing this since i'm a big movie fan and enjoy reading books i was waiting with anticipation for the release, the movie started strong with a impressive fight sequence and good special effects, there was none of the shaky camera action scenes which i find ruin any action movie when you can't see whats happening, everything from the props to visuals made it a very dark and almost creepy atmosphere, although i would class it as a action/fantasy there was elements of horror thrown in too, during the middle of the film the action slows for a while but that just gave me time to appreciate the performance given by James purefoy, other than resident evil i'd never really seen him in anything but i will defend his performance as Solomon Kane since i don't think anyone else could have played the part as confidently as him, supporting cast wise they mostly perform well.

There was a few continuity issues with the fact that Solomon never seemed to run out of single shot pistols and even if he'd thrown one at someone or something he always had both a sword and dagger but along with a few other things i must say that i did enjoy watching this and if you're a fan of the genre then i recommend a watch.

over all i give Solomon Kane 7 out of 10

Gran Torino (2008)
7/10
Interesting.
3 March 2009
Gran Torino.

I've always been a fan of Clint Eastwood with his Dirty Harry films however this is not like them at all, some of the press reviews said it was "like Dirty Harry is back" but they are way off.

Walt Kowalski (Eastwood) is an old Korean war veteran who spends his days sitting on his porch with his dog, drinking beer and swearing at his Chinese elderly neighbour who he can tell doesn't like him. Thao (Bee Vang) a young Chinese boy of The Hmong family that live next door, is very shy and quiet and is being pressured into joining a local Chinese gang, Walt doesn't want anything to do with them but as Thao's initiation is to steal his classic 1972 Ford Gran Torino and is failed by Walt and his M1 Garand, fate transpires and he ends up becoming friends with his neighbours.

Eastwood owns the movie with the best lines and by far best performance, co stars were not so talented with Bee Vang as Thao and Ahney Her as Su they were mediocre at best but this is mainly i think due to having to speak another language.

I recommend this for Eastwood fans but don't expect an action movie, it's all down to the script.

Really enjoyed this! recommend for any horror fan.
26 January 2009
My Bloody Valentine is one of the best slashers i've seen in along time, i've seen it twice and the 3D effect is great but i'll recommend sitting in the middle of the cinema, the first time i saw it me and my mate sat at the top row of chairs and the 3D didn't quite reach us and because we were at the same level as the screen we didn't get the full effect.

The level of gore and tense shockers was the highest i've seen for ages and the 3D just adds to it, one of the best moments is when a blokes jaw gets ripped out and comes flying at you.

The story is the same complex as most slashers, however it wasn't one that you could guess who the bad guy is, as normal you get a suspect who is alway conveniently in the wrong place at the right time, but the twist at the end is so absurd you wouldn't guess it, unusually in modern horrors there is full frontal nudity which hasn't happened for a while, both me and my mate thought the miner was going to stab her in the pussy, but thankfully there was none of the tasteless comedy which has ruined a lot of horror flicks recently.

Performance wise all the actors and actresses are cast very well, Jensen Ackles known mainly for his role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural(Great series) performs very well as the main character Tom Harrigan he seems to a very confident actor and i think has a successful career ahead of him, Jaime King is a great actress and screams very well, she's a very pretty women which i think will effect her in doing action movies since she lacks a certain presence on screen which actresses like Milla Jovovich or Kate Beckinsale are extremely good with, however she still has time for improvement in that area.

Overall i give it 9 out of 10.

Every thing in this is bad! Why do they make these.
26 January 2009
I watched this last night on Sci-Fi, and i felt obligated to write a review of how terrible it was.

The first point i make is advice to all casting and idiots who get involved with TV movies like this, Don't change the original cast, Matt Battaglia is in no comparison to Jean-Claude Van Damme both in martial arts and acting performance, and it is the same circumstance with Andrew Jackson who replaces Dolph Lundgren. Chandra West as Reporter Veronica Roberts gives a bad performance and nothing in comparison to Ally Walker who actually had talent in playing the part. I'm slightly concerned and confused as to why Burt Reynolds and Gary Busey sink this low, having said that Busey has never been big time i just miss the decent movies like lethal Weapon and Under Siege, Reynolds however has no excuse to be in this movie having done several classics before he should be able to pick roles well.

Overall the acting, stunts and fights are terrible, don't waste you're time.

liked it.

After having watched underworld 1 and 2(evolution) and been impressed by both, I wasn't sure about a prequel being made. From the trailer it looked reasonable, but from past experiences watching sequels and especially prequels being made with different directors it didn't offer much hope.

I must admit that Underworld Rise Of The Lycans is not a bad movie, for anyone who has seen underworld, then i'll just say that its a more in-depth telling of the flashbacks in underworld so don't be expecting a difficult plot to follow, in fact if you've seen underworld you pretty much know the whole storyline.

Acting wise i have no complaints, all the cast fit their roles and perform well, Rhona Mitra is a decent actress and a good pick for these roles, i think we can expect a few more action movies with her as lead heroine, overall i give Underworld Rise Of The Lycans 6.5 out of 10

BloodRayne (2005)

BAD! How does he keep making movies?
7 August 2008
I would love to know how the hell Uwe boll is still making movies, the idiot who is stupid enough to green light his work deserves just as much as boll to get banned from the movie business. Not only is BloodRayne seriously bad but all his other movies are terrible. The thing however i wonder most is how he can get some half decent actors and actress's like Michial Madsen or Michelle Rodrigez and some how make their performance's crap. All the cast act terribly and make bad attempts at changing their accents, the fight choreography is done badly and looks crap, when doing action scenes you should make the fights unorthodox and rough like in real life or unreal but look good, unfortunately its was in between both and came across as though a 10 year old had done it.

Uwe Boll should realise that he has no talent and only succeeds in ruining franchises so all i'm gonna say is:

Stop making movies your head is FUBAR.

Doomsday (I) (2008)
6/10
Fun, but has been done.
21 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Now i'm just gonna say that i think virus movies should stop for a few years, there's been to many recently and their a bit worn out, with 28 days/weeks later, Res Evil and I am legend. it's all got to go in another direction rather than copying or remaking classics.

April 2008, a natural born virus (Reaper virus) spreads through Glasgow, the army want to evacuate but the risk of passing infection is to great, martial law is ordered and all roads and exits from Scotland are road blocked by soldiers, gradually as food and resources in Scotland runs out, people turn to chaos, a 30ft steel wall is placed isolating Scotland from the rest of the world containing the infection. 2030ish and the virus breaks out again, the government learn of people living in Glasgow so there must be a cure, a small army unit is dispatched into Scotland to find the cure and return within 48 hours.

I'll admit i wasn't expecting anything special, and it was nothing that was classed as brilliant or intelligent but you don't go to see a action/horror for the complicated plot. However even with it's con's it is still worth a watch.

Con's and general stupid bits: 1)The soldiers in the beginning of the movie we're idiots and made out to be poorly trained and undisciplined. (I hate movies which make you think "why didn't they do that").

2)The armoured vehicles they drove into the restricted zone were 30mm bullet proof but an axe broke the glass (bullet proof tank should have bullet proof glass, durr!).

3)Major Sinclair (Mitra looked great) used her mechanical eye to look round corners while in CQB so she wore an eye patch over her missing right eye but she was right handed so how did she aim her gun.

4)When they entered Scotland they wanted stealth, so for some daft reason they drove tanks with double V12 engines which obviously make a lot of noise.

5)Kanes castle was so medieval it was unrealistic, and his people were crap fighters, surely a martial artist or ex soldier would have been left behind and survived then trained Kanes soldiers for combat, it would have been easier to move forward learning new things rather than old things like sword fighting.

6)It took far to much from other movies hence this should be the last virus movie for a long time.

7)The intro on the stage with Soul was to long and should have been 8-9 seconds no more than that.

8)The music was wrong throughout the majority of the movie and didn't suit it.

There are more con's but i can't remember them.

Pro's: 1)It was entertaining and i will watch it again (worth bargain day £4.10p).

2) Rhoda Mitra performed well in acting and action (she was definitely in the gym and it showed),I was actually a little impressed with Adrian Lester who i usually find annoying, Bob Hoskins was himself nothing more or less or different.

3)Rifle design and costume design was very good, only beaten by Lord of the Rings trilogy and Marvel design of Ironman (that was cool).

There are more pro's but i can't think of them and i know i've slagged it off but i still liked it.

8 out of 10 for entertainment.

2 out of 10 for intelligence and originality.

The Punisher (1989)
6/10
enjoyable but not amazing.
1 November 2007
Frank Castle (Dolph Lundgren) and his family are blown up in a car bomb and Castle survives to become the vigilante known only as The Punisher, a man who punish's the guilty, anyone who commits a crime faces justice from a shotgun or a gets a knife in their back.

The 1989 Punisher is a basic no brainer action revenge story based on the Marvel comic book,it has some good fight scenes and gun fights it's a pretty hard movie to find because the company that made it apparently went bankrupt before it was released so it was only in the cinemas in Europe i managed to find the DVD in Germany and got it posted over to England, Dolph like most action stars isn't an amazing actor but he performs OK and was probably the best person to play Frank Castle at the time, he wasn't as good as Tomas Jane in the 2003 version of The Punisher since it was a better movie and Jane can actually act, the rest of the cast perform OK but arn't anything special.

I didn't like that they got rid of the skull t-shirt that was the punisher symbol and it kind of cut away from the idea that he is the punisher it's kind of like replacing the Xmen costume with jeans and a shirt if you know what i mean. I found it hard to believe that an ordinary police officer can be so highly trained but i guess with planning, information and some martial arts training a dead cop could Wac the odd criminal or two.

The 1989 Punisher is an enjoyable action movie and if its ever on TV i would recommend watching it.

Gears of War (2006 Video Game)
9/10
Superb.
1 November 2007
Gears of War is probably the best game on XBox 360 and definitely my favourite games.

Every thing in the game has been done brilliantly and there's nothing i would change i'm not really a massive gamer so i can't say a lot but the game play and story are all excellent and i enjoyed every moment playing it, the co-op multi-player was great too.

The graphics like most XBox 360 games are great and i really liked the characters and the locust hoard were really well designed, the idea of a chainsaw on a machine gun was cool and i love how the blood splash's on the screen when you use it.

I would recommend Gears of War to anyone who likes third person shooter/horror games and would say it's the best around on console at the moment.

I hope they don't make a Gears of War movie because most that get turned into movies are rubbish like Doom which wasn't that good.

I was impressed.
31 October 2007
I have to admit i didn't have that high hopes for 30 days of night being any good, i saw the trailer and thought it looked pretty good but trailers are deceiving some times so i wasn't quite sure, so on the first showing in my local cinema on the night of Halloween i went and watched it and iv'e got to say it's definitely one of the best vampire movies i've seen. The whole movie was pretty tense and i could tell some people watching wanted it to end as soon as possible because they were scared s###less due to the gore and bits that made you jump and i have to say at times i was on the edge of my seat. Special effects weren't used that much apart from the vampires and the blood but it was all really well done and there were some very realistic decapitations and killings, the vampires were very messy eaters they kind of shook their head as they did which looked a bit weird and it made some people in the cinema laugh which i don't really think was the intension but it was all done effectively none the less.

Josh Harnett who i'm not a great fan of for his acting ability performs the part of sheriff Eban well although i found it hard to believe at his age he could be a sheriff, the rest of the cast were good too and they all acted to the situation believably there were no semi auto weapons fired while diving over a table or exploding barrels or anything stupid like that it was all realistic.

I really liked the birds eye view of the town when the vampires were trashing the place and killing everyone it was done brilliantly.

30 days of night overall was a great horror and not a action comedy horror like so many nowadays,it was a serious horror movie with no jokes but it was entertaining and i think anyone who likes the genre and has a brain when it comes to knowing whats good will like it.

Tony Jaa is wicked!
25 October 2007
I bought Warrior King on DVD this morning in a double box set with Ong-Bak and i'm glad i did, i never really thought about seeing a Tony Jaa movie before until a mate and i were watching Resident Evil: extinction and talking about how fit Milla Jovovich was and that she was quite good at fighting, gradually the conversation went into martial arts and i suggested he should watch "Kiss of the Dragon" starring Jet Li when he said "thats old school fighting you should watch Warrior King with Tony Jaa" and i was about to show him the meaning of "old school fighting" when Milla started chopping up zombies with Gerka knives so i decided against it. Later on once i got home and started watching the Jackie Chans new Police Story i thought maybe i should give Jaa a go so when i got up this morning i went into HMV and bought it and i got to say i'm massively impressed, Tony Jaa has got some serious skill in the martial arts Muay Tai style and he is a brilliant acrobat and is good replacement for Jackie Chan since unfortunately age has caught up with him as anyone who has watched Rush Hour 3 will have realised. I don't know much about Tony Jaa but being a martial arts fan and myself having studied in Akido,Kickboxing and Karate i know when someones got speed, agility and genuine skill and Jaa provides every thing whether its kicking grapples or elbows to the face he can move and i don't think iv'e ever seen someone do a back flip and kick a guy in the head without some form of help but he does all his stunts without wires and he is very good at what he does. I don't think Jaa will ever have the same fame or fan basis as Chan or Li since the martial arts genre is dying out and slowly changing into unrealistic big explosions and unlimited ammo blockbusters like the recent and horrific Die Hard 4.0 which has ruined the trilogy and i wish it was never made(Len Wisemen should never work again), but on the upside Warrior King stays within the boundaries of the martial art genre. Overall warrior king has brilliant fight scenes and simple but acceptable story's and i think its great and would recommend it to any martial arts movie fan.

8 out of 10

Jackie Chan has a small appearance in this movie which gave me smile at what happened between him and Jaa although though to some people would not understand it.

Great zombie movie! better than the other two.
12 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually quite surprised at how good R E Extinction was, the other two were entertaining but didn't quite match this one i not sure why this was better though so you'll have to watch it yourself.

There were a few confusions that i suffered during the movie the main one being that i wasn't aware there was a Statue of Liberty or the Effle Tower in Las Vagas, now i haven't ever been to Las Vagas before in fact i haven't been to America period so i can't comment that much apart from that i'm 99 percent sure the Effle Tower is in France. (i'm not sure where the Statue of Liberty is but i think it's on an island), For some reason they no longer have to shoot zombies in the head to kill them they only have to shoot them in the stomach of slit its throat in Millas case, Millas character of Alice was really strong in R E Apocalipse she could get thrown through a wall and get back up again where as in R E Extinction she gets a knock on the head from a ordinary guy and shes unconscious. Something i found funny was that Milla Jovovich has a new hair style which in a zombie infested world i think it would be hard to find a decent hair dresser.(Milla does look great i might add.)

The fights and general action in extinction was good and the violence has stepped up a notch on the gore but not much else has changed.Resident Evil movies do take a lot out of other zombie movies but extinction does stay true to the original story of the other movies, i just wish they had brought Jill Valantine into this movie it didn't say whether she had died or separated from them or something.

The characters in this movie all had very decent firearms they must have raided a gun shop or something, Milla had dual colt 45s which was cool and a lot of the other characters had glock 17s police issue in England, It was interesting that the truck driver had a SA80 assault rifle which is also English Armys chosen weapon.

Resident Evil Extinction was a very good action/horror movie and i would recommend it as it does actually class as a horror since it was tense and made a lot of people in the cinema flinch. There are a lot of R E haters out there and i'm not sure why but thats just their opinion so who cares.

I give Resident Evil Extinction 8 out of 10

Brilliant movie, but not for everyone.
29 September 2007
Now i will say without a doubt Return of the King is the best in the trilogy.

The Lord of the rings trilogy has everything, action, romance, story, amazing CGI and good performances from all the cast. Unfortunately it is very slow at some parts of the movie and having read the books myself i can tell you there are huge plot holes in the story and much of it was actually changed to fit into the movie.

This movie was pretty boring at some parts and a couple of my friends did fall asleep all the way up to the final 20 minutes of fight scene, one of them actually left , and i have to admit at some points i did start to nodd off.

I didn't really like the character of legolas in all three movies due to fact that he was to invincible and he didn't even get dirty while fighting orcs and other demon type creatures, however the other cast and characters were done well.

I think with the whole trilogy overall you ether love them or fall asleep through half of it, but they are good movies.

personally though when it comes to fiction i'd rather watch Blade or Total Recall.

Only one sentence can describe this movie!
27 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
F###ing awful! I can't think of a movie worse than this pile of s###.

You have to forgive the bad language in the last two sentences i don't usually swear unless in immense pain but this movie was torture! i've plenty of stuff to start with when it comes to bad points since there were no good ones. At all! The CGI was crap, and the majority of zombies were awful costumes which weren't scary, not that i usually complain when it comes to female nudity scenes but these were unnecessary and if it didn't have them or the swearing this movie could be shown on regular TV 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

I'm not even going to get into how bad the acting was as it hurts to think that people with no talent in any area of acting who shouldn't even be aloud to get on a Halifax advert can star in a movie.

The characters were stupid, they were going to a island for the party of the century which consisted of about five tents and a stage, when they got there the place was trashed and deserted and so their first thought was to go deeper into the big dark forest to try and find them.

Actors were dumb, director was dumb, writers were dumb and whoever green lighted and funded this movie must have the brains of a rocking horse.

This movie was a waste of time to watch, i would much rather have gone Fox shooting with my dad then spend £1.00 on this terrible excuse for a movie.

If you feel you have to watch a zombie movie watch Resident Evil or a George A Remaro flick, avoid this at all costs.

Raw Deal (1986)
7/10
I like this movie,
27 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
For some reason i like this movie, i've seen it quite a few times and still find it entertaining, no way is it near to Arnies best but is one of my favourites and will always recommend it to Fans of Arnold.

There is quite a lot of fist fights for a Arnie movie and all of them are a little OTT but are still excellent to watch, i love the first fight scene when Arnie knee's a guy in the face and he goes flying backwards onto a table which snaps in half, it was was seriously cheesy but really funny.

There are of course gun fights and the ending was classic, he kills a whole mob family by himself and gets away with just a scratch on his arm.

The music in this movie was great especially on the action scenes. I love the fight in the clothes shop when a bad guy see's him and the lead one says to Arnie and the women with him "Kiss her good bye S###head" then this music comes on which makes the fight scene perfect although it wasn't the best in the movie.

The gun fights are great Arnie has a range of weapons a machine pistol, MP5 sub machine gun, Pistol grip shotgun and of course the gun which a 80's police officer can't do without, a 44 magnum revolver.

This movie is a bit OTT but still really good in my eyes.

I give it 7 out of 10

Blade (1998)
8/10
Silver hollow point filled with garlic. You aim for the head or the heart, anything else and it is yo ass!
27 September 2007
Blade is a great movie, definitely one of the best vampire action flick's.

The vampire legend in blade has changed a lot, where as the original way to kill a vampire was to hammer a fence post size stake into it's heart, now you have silver stakes which fit in your pocket or machine pistols loaded with silver bullets, cross's don't work in this movie nether does holy water and when a vampire is killed it turns into ash.

The action in Blade is brilliant Wesley Snipes is a great martial artist and he performs well, I really liked how you first meet Blade in the vampire night club not only was there a great fight scene but my first thought when i saw blade was not only how cool he looked but that he was another character worthy of being called a superhero.

All clothes and weapon design for blade went together perfectly i especially liked his sword, i wasn't quite sure on his sidearm i think he should have had a Glock 18c or MP5 kurz although that would be a little awkward to draw quickly.

Stephan Dorff was a disappointing bad guy no where near a match for Blade and worse than that he was pretty boring, the rest of the cast gave good performances.

with all the action, good performance from Snipes and great script makes blade one of my favourite movies and best vampire slayer movie.

i give it 8 out of 10.

Under Siege (1992)

Steven Seagals best movie!
26 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a fan of Steven Seagal for a few years now ever since i first saw him in The Glimmer Man, now i've seen nearly all his movies and have quite a few of his movies on DVD, unlike his recent rubbish his early movies were great my favourite's being Above the Law, Out for Justice, Marked for Death and of course Under Siege.

Under Siege starts with Seagal as a cook on a naval battle ship which happens to be carrying Toma hawk missiles which are going to be decommissioned along with the ship, fortunately for our entertainment the Bad guy (Tommy lee Jones) and his group of Ex marines or special forces something have other plans for the missiles and they take over the ship, unfortunately for them a specialist has escaped their grasp, Casey Ryback (Seagal) an Ex Navy Seal demoted to a cook was in the cooking quarters while the take over happened, when two bad guys go to kill Ryback, and the marine thats with him, the action starts.

In 1992 when this movie was made Seagal was at his best, the fight scenes in this movie are great! very raw with no holds barred there wasn't a load of Aikido which is the martial art Seagal is known for but there was hints of it, also some karate and i assume they put in a few navy seal moves in there as well. All the stunts, explosions and gun fights were done very well and so was the script and story although it did remind me of the Die Hard storyline.

Seagal performs well but nothing special or much different from his stereotypical martial arts expert ex special forces characters that he seems to always play, Tommy Lee Jones is a good bad guy and plays the crazy kill everyone persona very well, No complaints about the supporting cast i just wish there were more Baddies for Seagal to kill as the fight choreography was some of his best sorry for mentioning that again.

as this is a great action movie and one of the best of its time i recommend you watch it

i give it 8 out of 10

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

Not sure what the excitement was all about.
26 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I saw the advert on TV one night and it said something like "critics are calling 3.10 to Yuma the best western for years" or something like that, but anyway i thought i'd go see it, and i did, and to be honest I'm not sure what the fuss was about. There was nothing in this movie that stood out to make it something special only basic stuff which we've all seen, all the gunfights at least one person died on the goodies team which was a failed attempt to make them look realistic, Bale had a long range sawn-off shotgun which could kill someone from about 30 metres, Crows character Ben wade had a personality change, one minute he's a ruthless killer the next he's a nice guy who helps Bale do his job, the ending was not what you expected in a bad way and cause's Crows character to have a even bigger personality change.

Over all 3:10 to Yuma was a disappointment which did a good job of getting me excited over nothing, in fact the characters were so stupid at times it almost makes you think "why the hell is he doing that its such a simple thing to get out of a building thats surrounded by men, why don't you just kill them with the long range sawn-off shotgun like a classic western would do".

i give 3:10 to Yuma 4 out of 10 its better to watch a 50's,60's western.

When action movies were still good
19 September 2007
Rambo part 2 is completely different from Rambo first blood.

First blood was quite psychological and had a lot of close quarter combat using that 10 inch bowie knife of his, Rambo part 2 uses a 10 inch bowie knife but just more and there are more gun fights and explosions he even has a bow with explosive arrows.

Basically Rambo part 2 is a full on action movie with no extras just gun fights a ex green bureau who wants revenge for various reasons who also happens to be indestructible and to be honest thats why i like it.

All the Rambo movies are quite ridiculous at times but are great movies to watch when your bored with nothing to do, this movie came out 4 years before i was born but i grew up watching stuff like Rambo, commando, under siege and terminator so i was always the odd one out at school when i was the only one who thought the TX 1000 terminator could beat the crap out of Neo (Matrix).

Rambo was made in 1985 so the fight scenes are very raw and more realistic there are no wires but it is the 80's so there are silly moments but generally the fights are very right hook left upper cut type stuff no fancy kicks or running up walls thank god.

Sly Stallone plays a good tough guy and was in great shape when he played Rambo i know this because in this and Rambo 3 he always manages to some how get his shirt off like most body building action super stars. Steven Berkoff is a mean baddie and the henchman type guy who fights Rambo isn't really a match as he was two big and slow. Richard Crenna fits the part of colonel Troutman well.

over all Rambo part 2 is a great action movie with excellent stunts and very enjoyable i give it 8 out of 10 and would recommend it to any action movie fan.

Rush Hour 3 (2007)
5/10
made me sad watching this movie
30 August 2007
When i heard Rush Hour 3 was coming out i nearly jumped out my shoes with excitement, i've always been a massive fan of Jackie Chan and was impressed with the new Police Story so couldn't wait until R H 3 came out. I loved the first two films so i thought another sequel would just be 90 minutes more of action comedy enjoyment, i went to see the first showing in my local cinema and was stunned at how little fight scenes and unimpressive fights there were, which brought me to only a few conclusions why this was.

1)American film makers don't let their stars do as much stuff as they used to.

2)Brett Ratner decided Jackie C couldn't help choreograph fight scenes.

Or god forbid age has finally caught up with Jackie which until he brings out another movie seems to be the logical explanation, now i will say Jackie Chan has done excellently in the past also bearing in mind Jackie is 55 years old so it has to happen eventually.

I did find the script entertaining there were some funny moments and loud over the top remarks coming from Cris Tucker which i was expecting, i think as a family film it would be good but for classic Jackie Chan fans they'l be disappointed.

over all i give Rush Hour 3, 5 out 0f 10 7 out of 10 for a funny script 2.5 out of 10 for action p.s I felt a similar disappointment with Die Hard 4.0 i just hope Stallone dosn't do the same with Rambo 4.

Die Hard (1988)
10/10
The best action movie ever!
17 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Without a doubt this is the best action movie ever.

There were a few great action movies before die hard. Dirty Harry, Mad Max and lethal weapon. (lethal weapon was made a year earlier) Dirty Harry started the real action movie genre, before that there were only westerns and second world war movies which were good but not the modern action we see today that have gun fights whilst driving cars and people running across roof tops then putting about 12 bullets in one person. Then in 1988 die hard was made and it exceeded past pretty much any action movie, and in my opinion still does. The action in die hard was brought to a new level, more bullets were fired more explosions a lot more "drop it you mother f#####" and "listen to me you little s###" were said which added that extra realism to Willis's characters situation,

I forgot to tell you the storyline sorry! heres a brief explanation if you don't want to know the story because you want to watch it, skip the next paragraph.

Lieutenant John McClane(Bruce Willis) is a New York cop who has travelled to California to see his wife at her boss's opening of the nakatomie plaza.(huge sky scraper) when he gets there he goes to have wash and unknown to every one 12 terrorists have entered the building lead by Hans Grubar(Alan Rickman) who obviously has a hidden agenda. Suddenly the terrorists burst into the party and McClane who is half way through getting dressed hears gun fire, he quickly draws his gun (9mm beretta 92F) and escapes up the stairs unnoticed, From that moment on McClane is on a race against time to save the 30 or so hostages and his wife.

Not only do i like this movie for the action and suspense but the script is brilliant and the acting from all the cast is great. Bruce Willis's performance as John McClane is amazing and one of his best, he plays a very good tough guy and whenever something bad happens you care about the character, Bruce has some great one liners in this movie one of my favourites is when McClane is trying to signal a police car so he throws a dead body out the window which lands on the police car, then the camera looks up at him from just below the window and he shouts "Welcome to the party pal" which i know dosn't sound that impressive but when you see the movie hes standing there covered in blood and dirt and holding a sub machine gun (MP5 A5) its looks quite cool. Alan Rickman is a great bad guy, he places a very smart, polite well brought up person but at the same time completely evil which is hard to to pull off but Rickman does it with style. Alexander Godunov plays Carl a henchman type character who's great, and a good match for McClane. Bonnie Bedelia plays McClane's wife she gives a good performance.

With the great acting, great action and a great script makes die hard a instant classic and a must see.

I give this movie 10 out of 10

Heres something that will make you laugh, apparently Arnie was offered the part of John McClane and he declined, thats a very good thing.

First Blood (1982)
9/10
If you hear someone say "Rambo's crap" punch them in the face.
16 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
John J Rambo (Stallone) is a special forces green beret and Vietnam veteran, the story starts with Rambo walking down a long road he's been looking for a guy he knew when he was in Vietnam, he's homeless with nothing to live for. a local sheriff see's him and arrests him for vagrancy, when they reach the station Rambo gets beaten by some of the deputy's obviously this annoys him and eventually he loses control, his already fragile mind is pushed over the limit and he escapes with ease beating the crap out of any cop that gets in his way. The only thing in Rambo's mind is to escape and be alone before he kills anyone, but the hard headed sheriff decides to pursue him into the mountains and thats when the skills of Rambo come out as he starts his own personal war against the whole sheriffs department and the state police.

A physcotic green beret.

Expert in close quarter combat.

Expert in guerrilla warfare.

Expert in weapons and explosives.

A man on the edge of sanity with nothing to lose.

all the ingredient's for a superb action movie, but with something else as well.

Rambo first blood dosn't just focus on the action but also on the sad side of a soldiers life, Slyvester Stallone shows excellently how war can effect a man phscologicaly, Rambo is in pain and he dosn't have any one who understands him, in Rambo's eyes nobody cares therefore everyones against him which is why his war will never be over.

the action in this movie is great and Stallone is perfect for the part, when you see Rambo running along carrying a m60 support weapon (which are supposed to be used lying down with it resting on a bi-pod) is classic. i loved how he took down about 10 cops in the woods with just a knife.(Rambos knife is excellent by one off e-bay the blade is 10 inches long).

Great action, great story, great acting makes Rambo First Blood one great movie.

A classic, a Icon, to be honest its a classic icon.

I give this movie 9 out of 10, well done Sylvester Stallone! PS.

Make sure you watch the two sequels there not as meaning full but are jam packed with action.

Stallone is bringing out Rambo 4 in 2008 titled John Rambo i can't wait.(you can see the trailer for it on you-tube just type in Stallone and look for it).

Great fun! i really enjoyed this movie.
16 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The Demolition man aka. John Spartan (Stallone) is a L.A cop in 1996, Los Ageles has become a city full of criminals and is generally a really messed up place, the man who caused most of the chaos is Simon Pienex (Snipes) who is a pretty messed up person, something really bad happens due too Phoenix's doings and John Spartan ends up getting arrested for multiple man slaughter and is placed in cryo(frozen)prison along with Simon Phoenix who is apprehended and charged for all the crimes hes committed. years later in 2032 Phoenix is woken up for some reason and escapes from prison but unfortunately the world has become a loving caring place full of harmony where it is illegal to swear or eat junk food even to have sex is band due to the risk of H.I.V, the police have become sissies and they don't even carry guns, then the police come up with the idea that if they wake up John Spartan he can catch Phoenix and they can go back to saying things like "be well" and "Greetings and salutations citizen what seems to be you're boggle".

The action starts straight away with Stallone going into a building beating the crap out of a bunch of people, the action was actually quite good Stallone and snipes had some good combo's, i like it in the beginning when Stallone runs up behind a guy punches him in the kidney then smacks him in the face with the side of his beretta. The gun fights weren't great because to many bullets were fired that only hit air although they were still entertaining.

Stallone plays the part of John Spartan well, but the character of spartan isn't original a tall, its the usual no nonsense kick you're ass if you try anything type of character which is so common in action movies. Snipes was very enjoyable too watch, his character was very over the top and extremely crazy he also had a excellent laugh. Sandra Bullock plays Lalena Huxley a policewoman who is obsessed with the 20th century and obviously gets on well with Stallone, her performance was good.

the script and story were good it was quite funny at times and had some great one liners.

I give this movie 6 out of 10 for action

And 8 out of 10 for enjoyment

Kickboxer (1989)
8/10
My favourite Van Damme movie
16 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Kurt Sloan (Van Damme) is corner man for his brother Eric who is the Kickboxing world champion, after beating every one there is Eric decides to go to Thailand where kick boxing was created too fight the people who know it best. unfortunately for Eric Thailand decides that he should fight Tong Po the best in the country, Kurt tries to persuade Eric not to fight after he see's Tong Po warming up by kicking a brick pillar, Eric thinking hes the best decides to fight and ends up getting paralysed. of course Kurt gets annoyed by this and decides that the only way he can feel better is if he starts training in Muay Tai so he can put Tong Po through the same pain his brother went though or something like that.

When Van Damme did this movie he was on the top of his game, he had great speed and strength and excellent martial arts capability, apparently he could bench press 165 kgs.

The fight scenes in this movie are fantastic i especially liked the fight in the bar and the final fight between Kurt and Tong Po, this movie really shows Van Damme's talent as a martial artist mainly with Muay Tai and Kickboxing but with hints of Karate. (Van Damme was European middle weight Karate champion back in the 80's) I think if you like too watch action movies for gun fights and explosions then you probably won't like this movie, but if you like Martial arts movies with Jackie Chan,Jet Li and people like that and you fancy something different watch kick boxer This is a Damme (lol) good movie and i would recommend it.

I give it 8 out of 10
