Cats (2019)
I loved it!
Jennifer Hudson was amazing and worth the price of the ticket alone! I just wish she was in more scenes! There were a couple of songs that could have been cut because they didn't really help the movie along and song fatigue set in and it slowed the movie for me. But the actors solos were great fun and the sets were amazing. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews! They are supposed to be Cats and yes they were somewhat human and all different but have you ever seen two cats the same other than all one colour? Cats takes you to another world and you see the personalities of many of the actors in the movie individually. Highlights for me were Rebel Wilson and James Cordon as well as Ian McKellan and Jason Darulo doing backup soprano was hilarious! Mr Mistopheles was a surprise and very enjoyable but Jennifer Hudson knocked it out of the park for me!
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
Forget What The Critics Say!!!
If you are a true fan of the XMEN you will go to this movie to enjoy seeing the Mutants on the big screen again. There are so many moments in this film I have waited to see over the years! Every mutant has a moment in the film that just lets you enjoy them individually! The backgrounds enrich the mutant history and the references to past XMEN movies are littered through the entire movie! Apocalypse just happened to be in this movie at the time. Yes there are three Nha you can pick at but who cares?? Enjoy it first just as a MUTANT MOVIE! The connection between Raven, Xavier and Magneto is strengthened and the cameo mutant will knock you socks off! The reveal at the end of course we all knew it was coming so why be a dork and say "it was predictable"? It's as predictable as the mansion blowing up or being attacked every 5 minutes!! So we the moments we all know are coming in the movie arrive, ENJOY THEM!! DOFP was my favorite up till now but XMEN Apocalypse is now the best XMEN movie in my opinion! Why?? Because we get to see our favorite mutants in action that's why! And they are actually powerful and let loose with all their powers!!! That's why it puts it at the top of the XMEN movies in my opinion!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Enjoy the MOVIE, not a line for line remake of the BOOK!
I was really looking forward to "The Desolation Of Smaug" and for me it lived up to the hype! The changes made me feel as if I was on a second or third re-reading of a book and found some new deeper meaning in a passage or discovered something I had skipped over previously. The pace of the movie was a lot quicker than "An Unexpected Journey" but I feel this second installment really deepened Bilbo's character. The new characters appearing in the second installment were introduced well and fitted seamlessly into the Movie. The action sequences were INSANE and very enjoyable. The fight sequences were great! Last, but not least, the end was for me was, UNEXPECTED!
The Lovely Bones (2009)
I liked it.....
I took my 3 nieces (17, 15, 14) and my 2 nephews (14, 12) to see this movie and I was interested in their reactions during the movie. When the abduction scene came on the girls were annoyed at how naive Susie Salmonwas and the boys thought she was plain stupid. I was there watching because I read the book a few years ago and Peter Jackson is a God to me after TLOTRs Trilogy.
The Lovely Bones reminded me of the Robin Williams "What dreams may come" with all the special effects depicting what heaven looks like for Susie Salmon.
My nieces enjoyed the movie my nephews struggled to stay interested and I liked it, but need to see it again to catch the things I missed on the first viewing.
Donna Summer: A Hot Summer Night (1983)
Great Concert!
This is one of those gems that when you watch it you remember what an incredible artist Donna Summer really is. Great to see her singing with her two sisters as back up and with her daughter doing a cameo. Throw in musical youth of "pass the dutchie" fame and you have a concert that is a must for any musical time capsule. Seeing Donna in her prime when she does many of her hits and works hard for the the money lets you appreciate her big hair, big teeth and that BIG voice I recommend this concert to everyone no matter what generation you are from. Donna's music is popular and varied for many musical tastes. The costumes suit the times and Donna recreates some of her music videos on stage. She goes from Gospel to Stage to disco and dance music effortlessly.
Dreamgirls (2006)
There's a first .........
Have you ever seen a movie where everyone else disappears and you end up focusing on just one character for the whole movie? Welcome to Dreamgirls! After watching the first musical number that Jennifer Hudson sings as Effie White I was mesmerized for the rest of the movie. I forgot about those other Actors/Musicians who flitted in and out of scenes and just waited until Ms Hudson was back. I have watched it another 3 times just so I could see what Beyonce/Eddie and Jamie were up to but keep getting captivated by Jennifer Hudsons musical/acting performance. All I can say is if nothing see this movie for the songs/music and yes once again the penultimate "I'm telling you I'm not going" knocks your socks off! Go see it on the big screen DVD will not do this movie justice.
