Changed the rules.

Yes, that's my problem with all of the Terminator sequels. The first one was a perfect, time travel story. The machines sent a terminator back in time to kill John Connor before his birth, by killing his mother. So the humans sent Kyle Reese back to save her. Ironically, if the machines hadn't done that, John Connor would never have been born. It's a similar theme as the Film 12 Monkeys: you can't change the past. If you go back in time, you always had. But then, The Terminator is a massive hit so now you can change the past. This is a good action flick but they ruined the message of the first.

Excellent Drama

I've noticed the critics who have panned this film always mention the alleged off screen 'crimes' that Mia Farrow has made it a second career to spread. Don't be fooled by those critics. This is a great, engrossing film. The performances are uniformly wonderful especially Kate Winslett. If she isn't at least nominated for an Oscar for this performance, the malice many feel for the writer/ director can only be blamed. The cinematography is beautiful as well.

What a great achievement for Woody Allen, to put out such a great film at the age of 81. He's a remarkable artist.

Bland and unbelievable

There should be a law passed that says the United States can't make gay films. Leave that task to Great Britain and the rest of Europe. While this film wasn't the worst film ever made-I didn't turn it off-it's really lackluster. I'm surprised at the number of glowing reviews here but it seems like most of reviewers liked it for political reasons, like they appreciate this kind of film was made and support that idea. The central problem for me was i didn't believe for a second the 2 gay leads would be together, specifically that Ruccolo would give Bucatinski the time of day. The only realistic scene in the film is the disastrous 1st date between the 2. The rest of the film where they fight, reconcile, argue, make up, fight and fall in love, only made sense when I discovered that Bucatinski wrote it. He would have you believe Ruccolo's choices were limited strictly to abusive losers or himself. I just didn't care.

Wish They Had Made a Full Length, Silent Feature Instead.
16 January 2005
This is one film that I wish was on DVD. As a fan of silent comedy, this film has long been one of my favorites. More of a biography of Buster Keaton then the film The Buster Keaton Story. While the actual film has flaws, the best parts for me are the recreations of silent comedies. They're hilarious!! It makes me wish that Reiner and Van Dyke had chosen instead to make a full length, silent comedy. It would have been a classic today! As it is, the film was probably made at the wrong time for it to have made an impact. It probably seemed very out of date in the year of Easy Rider and Woodstock. However, anyone who's a fan of Keaton and Chaplin or silent movies should really make an effort to find this film, it's obviously made with a love of the subject matter.
