Raising Victor Vargas (2002)
Just like regular teenage drama
Because there wasn't too much happening in this film it felt like regular drama that I would see at school. And not only that they had the right amount of humor so that it seemed more realistic.
Most of the characters were definitely annoying but they were portrayed very well and I think the casting really did well with that
This movie was not only about a boy who causes trouble for his family and he fights with them constantly, but just about teenage relationships. Victor was a kid who would mess around and have sex with some girl but keep it private for his reputation. And then he meets a girl who he starts to like while using her to say that he wasn't with the other girl. And even then this new girl is using him just so she doesn't have to deal with the harassment of men she comes across.
As a girl living in NYC and being a teenager near so many boys, I will say there are many accurate portrayals of how some of us women or girls are treated.
Do the Right Thing (1989)
just my honest opinion....
The film took place in brooklyn and it conflicts it explored. Some conflicts portrayed in this story are police brutality, Race, And old vs the young. I don't really think i felt bad for most of the characters. But when it came to buggin i might feel a little bit of sympathy for him because even though he was annoying (spoiler ahead) he was the cause for radio Raheem's death and that seems like it would be such a heavy subject that he would have to live with on his chest. Not only was he annoying but Mookies girlfriend really annoyed me, She was loud and never seemed to take mookie seriously.
Other than that this movie did have some realistic features included in this movie. When sal was saying to his son the he watched all the kids grow up that is something that is true in the brooklyn community, I know this is true because in the area i grew up in i knew the person who ran the a laundry mat and he knew my family and there was the bodega workers who knew me and my family too and the reason was because they grew their business there and stayed and they took the times to meet all of these families and become friends with them.
Fresh (1994)
This movie portrays New York pretty well... For back in the day
It was honestly so crazy to see how Bushwick was back then because i always be passing by while going to school. The way they talked, how crazy they acted, and how crazy the boys got when it came to basketball was shown extremely well. Since i grew up here ive heard stories and ive lived through so much here this part of the movie was done extremely well. Although i know this movie is old and i get it the lighting in certain scenes could have been better, but i t is true that the street lights over here dont always work so it did capture that well too. This did accurately show how us teens live our lives in NYC because most of us be going to school and hanging out with friends and doing stuff outside of school, while having to deal with so much drama in and out of school. Most of us literally have struggles that we go through in silence.
