Tales of Terror (1962)
Terror times three.
I think this film is very underapreciated, but as I watched it for the fourth time last night i really enjoyed it. I tryed to focus on each segment individually-towards the end when I watch 'The M. Valdemar case' I felt that I was still thinking about the previous two segments.
I really liked this film. I love it how Price plays a completely different character in each segment, in addition hid acting was very good even though you don't get to understand the character as throughly as in other full lenght films. I also like it how the stories cover a wide range of ideas. The cast is good also as there is Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone, some beautiful woman, and of course last but definitely not least Vincent Price.
House of Wax (1953)
Beautiful classic-wax figures or are they- and the Vincent Price.
House of wax is truly an amazing film which i never get tired of, the film has great timing, a great story line and Vincent Price makes the film what it is without a doubt. I love how price looks at all of his creations burning and his facial expressions were just genius. House of wax(1953) to me beats the 1933 and 2005 versions by a long run- For a start the 1933 mystery of the wax museum lacks in depth of the characters and their performances leave room for improvement. Lional Atwill's character does'nt really say that many great memorial lines and actually seems grumpy throughout most of the film which is interesting. In addition, it is also hard to tell what is happening at times such as what is being said by the reporter-u need to watch the film with sub titles(mixed up). However, I did enjoy some aspects of 'Mystery' and I found 'Mystery' more creepy than House of wax(1953). The 2005 house of wax is like a Texas chainsaw flick which does'nt focus on the sculptors and how the try to create beauty, although i actually still enjoyed it, as it was a good horror film.
House of wax was the first movie I had ever seen with Vincent Price and shortly after watching house of wax I bought eight more DVDs starring him,now that says something. I now have 20. I think that any film with Price in it makes that film memorable, house of wax is only one of my favorites with Price because he seems so fresh and he gives the camera 100% at all times and how he conveys how his character is intent with creating beauty any way he can. I look the contrast between Jared (Price) at the start of the film to how he is after the fire. Marie Antoniette is an interesting icon in the film as well the actors Charles Bronson the wide eyed Physis Kirk and things such as how Price's character changes from creating beauty to making a chamber of Horrors.
Highly recommended.
