The Whale (2022)
Brilliant performance by Brendon Fraser
Fraser deserved his academy award for this performance. In too many shows where actors have to wear fat suits, it's obvious that they are. Not here. Fraser was this whale of a man in every movement and facial expression and grunt of pain. What a terrific actor. From the silliness of George of the Jungle to comedic chops of Blast from the Past, to action hero in the Mummy series, to this masterpiece, he has now established himself as one of the finest actors of his generation. Others deserve credit here as well. The movie was incredibly sad, emotionally devastating and yet uplifting at the same time. Fraser was helped in this by his co stars and director. A superb movie.
The Lost City (2022)
A whole lot of fun
I don't know why this movie has such a low rating. It was pure fun. If you are tired of the "same old" comic book movies, try this one for a breath of fresh air and more than a few laughs.
King Richard (2021)
Warm and compelling
This is the best movie I've watched in a long time. Great performances from all. I don't think I've seen a finer performance from Will Smith as the patriarch and that's saying a lot.
No Time to Die (2021)
Disappointing
All-around disappointing. The sound wasn't good. The picture dark and not sharp. Script was boring. My husband, an avid Bond fan, slept through most of it. The only quality part was the acting. A sad end to Craig's turn as Bond.
Gifted (2017)
Wonderful, warm, inspiring movie.
See this movie. You won't be sorry. The best movies aren't always blockbusters. This quiet little movie is warm and funny and amazing.
Spy (2015)
A really fun movie.
An improbable but thoroughly fun movie. McCarthy is perfect. And who knew Statham had such comedic chops? I hope they make spy 2.
Darkest Hour (2017)
A superb movie.
Gary Oldman was superb. I would not have known it was him, so completely did he become Churchill. The entire cast was stellar. Director created a compelling movie. I generally am not a fan of historical movies but this one kept me in its grip to the very end. Every member of the cast and crew should be proud of their involvement. I applaud them all!
The Darkest Hour (2011)
Good movie
I don't know why it got such bad ratings. It was a decent alien invasion movie. Great special effects. Imaginative aliens. Good acting and script.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Decent movie but not great - some spoilers
I'm a big fan of Jason Statham but this movie wasn't one of his best. Well acted but the plot had a few holes in it. Such as why the underused Andy Garcia Fed character stood by and let Jason kill loads of bad guys. Such as how Jason, after being shot down in the depot shootout, was mostly uninjured in the final scene.
Nobody (2021)
Ok but a tad unbelievable
The movie started off really great, including the first fight scene on the bus. After that, the fighting got a little silly. It was great seeing Christopher Lloyd again though.
Greenland (2020)
Decent disaster movie
If you liked 2012, you'll like this one. Same premise, different but equally good execution.
The Predator (2018)
One of three best predator movies
I don't know why this movie Is rated so lowly. I think it's one of the three best. A new take on the series. Yes, the Treager character made guesses about the alien's intent on coming to earth To explain the plot, but other than that, the plot And the acting were good. Lots of action, of course, and some humour to lighten it up.
American Hangman (2019)
Excellent movie.
One of the best movies I've seen in a while. Sutherland is, as always, superb. The commentary on the judicial system is spot on.
Glass (2019)
Disappointing
First two were so good that I had high hopes for Glass but it didn't live up to its potential. The twist ending was the best part but it was a tad excruciating getting there.
Green Book (2018)
Terrific Movie
This film was flawlessly executed. It reminds me of and was as good as The Intouchables, currently being remade as The Upside. Both are about two people from very different backgrounds who bring something vital to the other. Both stories are told with warmth and humor. Definitely Oscar worthy.
The Mule (2018)
Highly enjoyable
My husband and I really enjoyed this movie. It was warm, occasionally funny, always interesting.
