El desorden que dejas (2020)
Good cast, good acting realistic well done Spain!
I discovered this serie by chance, and I am happy that I had the chance to watch it.
If you like or search for a Good mystery, thriller but also with an wonderful Cast (well, well done Spain!! I was pleasantly surprised, also by the intro and the soundtrack.
I have watched it all 8 episodes in a few days.
It has a good story and it keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last episode. Congrats Spain and to the director and the actors!
*** I will not give many spoilers but personally I did not dind the story "predictable" at all in fact, it is the complete opposite. I am going to say just this this serie also deals with a very real problem going on (still unforcinately) in the world!
My guess is there is absolutely NO REASON for 1 STAR review other than jealousy, or whomever they did not like the reality displayed in the film.
It deals with a controversial subject.
If you want to watch a really good mini-serie, both thriller mystery that does mix up at times with emotional scenes and moments, just go watch it and don't take after the bad reviews. I have seen many films and there are many useless films that are just garbage. This is NOT one of those.
Congrats Spain :-)
Les liaisons dangereuses (2022)
Decent film, I enjoyed it
First of all, Don't take after this serie of bad ratings !!
I went to see this film having little to no expectations and I enjoyed it very much.
This is a modern-day Love and Betrayal film for teenagers but has an universal message.
I assume that people rated this film badly either because they hold some sort of hate or grudge against some of the actors? Not the case. You should check it out without comparing this film to the older Dangerous Liasons films!!
This film is a remake and a strong one who shines in its own right stop judging after the bad reviews and go see the movie.
If you ever had a first love, or even if you remained heartbroken by it it doesnt matter because this film has an universal message and that is about love.
It didnt dissapoint me and I have seen many many films in my life both very old and new :-)
Serpico (1973)
Portrait of a man who stubborn himself to remain fair till the end
Beautiful film and performance by Al Pacino
I remember reading somewhere that Al Pacino started his career doing all sorts of jobs such as selling Newspapers. I believe you can see this wide range of experience in his characters.
Ironis is, that many ppl includin myself know that Al Pacino is popular or became popular for Mob movies or roles, such as Godfather or Scarface, which are some GOLDEN ones for sure if you ask me!
Here you can seee Pacino at the beginning of his acting career interpreting Frank Serpico, an honest man who always wanted to fight and elimiante crime - and thus became a cop. The problem is, step by step being in the System and looking at this profession from the outside with an idilic view - he finds out the hard way that being a Cop is not as simple and easy as he thought it would be.
He finds out that his fellow cop colleagues, starting from the bottom to the Top Inspectors agree to take bribe from local Criminals. They also abuse them and step on the law themselves bragging they are "allowed to" because they are a cop.
Now they try as they may and they keep harrassing Serpico with the hopes that he will "join" the Blue Brotherhood and take the bribe, and turn a blind eye liek everyone else does. But Serpico is not like everybody else, in fact this trait is shown in how this man dresses, acts, and speaks that he is his own person he is authenthic and just wants to do his job and nothing else.
I reccomend this film because I believe and know that this film like many others, echoes the truth about the Police departments nowdays and for years. That the reason crime is allowed to continue is because the corrupt people from the Institutions of state allow it.
The film shows both some parts of the victories Serpico has in the Police departments and in his fight with corruption. But also the risks has been exposed to by taking the right path and doing the right thing, in an environment that does anything but.
This is a beautiful film but also very sad and tragic.
There are still people Frak Serpico in the world, corruption nowdays happens in many fields and domains not just the Police department, and if you are stubborn and hold onto you ow way like Serpico did you will enjoy this film and his journey.
10/10.
Frances (1982)
Why wasn.t she allowed to have a life ?
I found this film reccomended on a list about Mental health and personality disorders. I ve seen many films on Mental Health theme but did not know about this one.
Don.t know about everybody else but this film broke my heart and blew me away.. it reminds me so much of the story of Gai Marie Carangi supermodel, who died of AIDS and similarily had few to none people at the time besides her to support her.
It seems that before Britney Spears, Paris Hilton (I insert Paris name here because if you ve seen her Documentary about how she had been turned to Foster care system and Youth Camp where young women had been molested you will understand) Marilyn Monroe, in the 1930's there was miss Frances Farmer.
I ve read that Kurt Kobain has been so impressed by her real life story, that he named his little girl Frances... and even wrote a song in her memory "Frances will have her Revenge on Seattle" ... in my opinion she did. And she should.
This young woman had done nothing wrong but live her own life, to her own standards. As long as she was not breaking the law or anything, "they" the Big Hollywood Corporations and Bigshots should have left her alone. But they knew she was worth money because she had it, talent.
The problem (as one of the "Big" industry men at some point tells her) is not with Frances talent, it.s her attitude and free spirit that bothers them. She refuses to be told what to do, to be controlled.
When she gets a smaller Theatre play offer, she even has the "nerve" to reject some of these Big Corporations offers. And that signed her demise in their eyes. They wanted to teach her a lesson. With or without her approval she will become what they want her to become. A product. A normal girl who would not speak her mind or have any Political inclinations of her own.
And they DID her good. First, they set her up by defamation and created this image of her as an alcoholic and woman with a violent temper in the press. Then they set her up for Jail time, and she did not even had a Lawyer at the trial. (!!!) ... I mean the intention was clear as day, she had to fall. I would go as far as to say they wanted her to either go insane, or dead.
Curious thing is, there had been other cases of such abuse but looking at the Bigger picture you can clearly see that someone wanted this girl dead, or insane in a Mental institution or ruined. And they almost succeeded, taking advantage of the situation and the superficial and cruel "family" ... that Frances had.
Her story reminds me of Tonya Harding, the Olympic skater, and others.
In fact I do see Mental illness and Personality disorders in this film. But not of Frances ! But for everyone (almost) around her starting from that town who set her up, to the frustrated and greedy "Bigshots" in the Film industry who treated her like a slave.
Yes, this is a film about Mental illness, about indifference about cruelty. About the cruelty of Society and how violent and primitive they are, and react to somebody who is different, who has an unique and strong personality, who is smart and who happens to be born a Woman
Did she have to go through all of that ? Why ?
Was it necessary, if so, for who s EGO because definetly it was not for hers or for her own good.
But finnally, for a person to go through so much and Survive and keep living (!!) and Come up on top, I believe that Frances Won.
They tried to destroy her so bad, but failed.
Jessica Lange should have Won an Oscar for her performance.
10/10.
Sitter Cam (2014)
OK for a Lifetime movie
For India Eisley, but nevertheles and for the story this film though pretty underrated deserves a watch.
If I had not seen Look Away, also with the same protagonist actress probably I would have enjoyed this film even more, especially the ending twist.
It is not an A film category thriller, but if you are looking to be entertained by a story resembling real life stories then you should give this film a go.
All Good Things (2010)
Chilling portrait of a murderer
The film is based on the true story and life of Robert Durst, the son of a real-estate family and Mogul.
We find out early on, that appearances can be deceiving, and not everything that Glitters is gold. This seems to be the truth for this family business, behind the "legal activities" and History of building Times Square, and a big money this family has their skeletons hidden in the closet. Or not so hidden, you will see.
The father puts pressure on the protagonist (Ryan Gosling) to continue the family business. Although reluctant and without much enthusiasm, once getting married to Kristen Dunst character, David follows into his family and father's footsteps.
The story centers around David's character and spirraling out of control. We see him as this very calm, content guy who rarely smiles having outbursts of anger and episodes of abusing his wife. You might say, many abusers do and fit this criteria. YEP but wait. This is not all..
When the dissapearance of David's wife happens the community is shocked and yet we see how insiduous David is, and how he crafts the art of manipulation. He employs one of his friends to pose as his wife to confuse invetigators and Police.
I still don.t understand why he did murder her. We as the audience at times a clever move from the Director of this film is to antagonize both David's own confession, to how real events and murders took place. The hypocrisy and the nonchalance of this person lying to your face is in itself chilling.
At some point we see into David's relationship with his father, and the trauma he had been through (or traumas!) in childhood. His own father suppossedly did the same thing to his mother and let the child (David) watch his mother's suicide. Wtf...
At one point in the film David says "Now I have become just like you dad" implying further that his father did the same thing to his wife, his mother.
If you watch Kristen Dunst character you can see that she is a bubbly, beautiful girl who loves living life. The sad part that probably, as an audience we can see in my opinion is that she rushed too fast into a marriage with David. Not knowing his true colours or mental problems.
And when she found out it was too late.
This film is a good lesson, for everyone I believe to not rush into marriage or attachements without taking a time to get to know a person. Possibly if Kristen Dunst character would have had more time she would have had the chance to witness some of Davids deviant behaviours and save herself. It is a sad, sad story and the unique thing is that the abuser had not been convicted back then and commited another crimes.
I believe that years of trauma without healing, and sticking to the same sick Environment (like in the case of David) and add to that a controlling father and big money and inheritance, created a murderer.
I believe it could have been avoided but throughout the film we can see David as a coward, a very selfish and controlling man who only cares about his needs only, and doesn't even listen to anybody else.
The film is worth to watch, the actors did a good job and knowing this is based off real events makes the story more belivable na dmore chilling. I have also read that the studio and director had been sued by the real David Marks after releasing the film.
The Other Woman (2014)
If you ever dated a serial cheater..
.. or Narcisist, or serial player then you will enjoy this one!
Hilarious, funny and for people who ve said this is not realistic or could be based on real life situations I can tell you that it is! There are such people as Mark in real life.
Womanizer, thief, player, serial cheater...
Others have also said that this is not Female empowerement, but fails to deliver. I ve had fun watching it, the acting is a bit over-the-top exxagerated at times, but nevertheless you will enjoy it, I for one did!
They say Hell is nothing compared to one woman scorned, but three?! .. 4, or more? :-)) .. Karma has Mark's name on the list, and a group of women all being cheated on and lied to by the same man come together.
It was a fun ride comedy, and a lesson for cheaters in particular..
Hypnotic (2021)
Pretty Good for a 2021 thriller !
I like films with the theme of Psychology, the relationship between therapist and patient. I think that this film tries to do a good job at giving you that.
I have read plenty of negative reviews here where people complain that this is not a scary enough thriller? Or based off in reality. I think differently..
If any of you have read about or are familiar with MK-ultra experiments done, or the Manchiurian Candidate, trying to create the ultimate war-weapon, an invincible human-soldier then you know, that many parapsychologists, psychiatrists and experts in Hypnosis and mind control have been used in those experiments.
This film kinda gives you a hint, and if we are to judge by the history and intelligence of the manipulative Therapist , his father having taken part in projects such as MK-ultra and CIA programming, then you would not find it so unrealistic that another human being can "mind control" another human being like we see in the movie.
I have also loved the scene where the protagonist fights back the hypnosis, triggers and mind control the individual is trying to induce in her. And manages to break free.
I found the actor playing the therapist as being more convincing in his part than the woman main character. But that's just me, perhaps the fact that they filmed her face so much (she does resemble Angelina Jolie a bit or anyway tries to) and I found it a bit distracting. Other than that, it is a pretty interesting thriller not A category, complicated but not too complicated.
If are like me and like Psychological films and thrillers then you will enjoy this one.
M.F.A. (2017)
Enjoyed it very much
I did not go in watching this movie with a lot of expectations. In fact I had arleady placed it around the B category of thrillers, but got out whole lot more!
If you have been a victim of rape, or know somebody who has been such I believe this film should be added up to the modern-list of films basically show off the effects of rape and violence against women and girls. Mostly done by men and boys raised (unfocrinately still) thinking that if they have been born MALE they are priviledged, and can get away with anything.
I see it happening (and not just in films) that the education boys are fed, is that somehow in the process of becoming "powerful male" they are allowed to commit random acts of violence against women and children.
I do not agree with this point of view, and it is a tragic and sad fact (and real) that unfocrinately still infects nowdays Society. There are men who think it's OK to commit violence against women and young girls, it is OK to take advatage of them (because she ask for it, right? ... This is what this film (among others done in this century) treats.
We follow up the main protagonist Noelle, starting off as a naive and innocent art=student, who goes up to a party invited by a colleague. Instead of having a typical date, at some point the guy starts taking advantage of her body despite her resistance. And after he behaves like nothing ever happened, and as if this is a "thing" done regularly and "she must have imagined it" pointing out that Noelle might be crazy for not enjoying it. This again - is the wrapped up thinking of males who engage in such activities.
If raping a woman or a child has become so random, so oridnary what does that have to say about us a Society?
The film later follows more cases of women and girls having gone through sexual assault, and the lasting effects this has had on the victims.
Francesca Eastwood (had no idea she is Clint Eastwood's daughter) delivers a raw, honest and brave performance as Noelle. I reccommend it whether you are a male of female, whether you have ever been yourself through a situation of sexual assault or know someone, I enjoyed this film very much.!
Oh, and the ending is bad-ass :-) Enjoy the ride.
Missing: Sarajin yeoja (2016)
Pleasantly surprised, Good film
Can't get enough of Asian films and Cinematography! With that being said, this film among a few others I've seen, from the modern Asian Cinematography and not only is good stuff!
If you are being used to Warner Bros, and every Hollywood marketed film then you should try Independent films and those from the Asian Cinematography.
Good and fresh script, relatable characters, it made you understand and ask yourself if there IS an actual villain in this story because, it shows You - the reality of both characters - the mother and the nanny, through their eyes. And none of them had it easy, perhaps the Mother (main character) we are led to believe at first she had an easier life, and she might have had - than the other one.
Perhaps I've seen many cases of Women and children being abused in their family units and I can relate better to the Nanny character and actress, and her story breaks your heart. No life should be more important than another, just because one had the luck to be born into a family with a much Higher status, or financial power. Her child and her life, was also important. This being the catalyst that made her do the gesture that she did, with the other Womans baby...
This film will keep you on the edge of your seat (another good one from the Asian Cinematography, script and characters) impress you and shock you, for me personally it made me relate to both main characters in the story, and the lenghts they go through to fight and protect their children.
Thank you for this beautiful film.
The only thing I would of changed was the ending.
In Darkness (2018)
Good Script, Good Cast, Good thriller
Found out about this film by chance, and expected a film similar to."The Window" or "Rear Window" . This film story is much more than that, has an interesting story and characters and keeps you on the edge of your seat!
I know the lead actress from Game of Thrones and back in the day, when she had a villain role (she is really good at playing villains it seems) in Midsomers Murders in one episode. Basically, without giving too much away the story of the film is that of a Blind pianist, who becomes the witness of a murder. But it is much more than that, I found it pretty cool that the actor who plays the perp and "killer" is also the actor who played in the sequel of "The Transporter" series.
Also has some good Action scenes as well! Overall I found the transformation of the character pretty interesting, and I swear at some point I thought to myself . From the scene where we find out there is more to this character than it meets the eye I thought. "What if she is more than who she says she is?"
It makes for a pretty decent Revenge thriller as well. Reminded me of the film "Colombiana", only here the twist goes a little further. Whoever wrote the script and chose the Cast did a good job, and made for a pretty decent thriller and entertaining film. Kudos to the lead actress, for keeping us to the edge with this role till the very end! :-)
Tomorrow I Quit (2020)
I Enjoyed this film
New film, I was surprised that this film was launched year 2020. The film follows the protagonist, a 30 year old girl with some issues. I ve got the impression that "age is just a number" many times the protagonist acts irresponsible and impulsive, and doesn't know who she is or what she wants from life. She is a dreamer - to save the world and smoke ciguarettes! She reminded me of myself, and other people I know from the young generations. I believe that this film does a great job, at portraying the Young generations of today. With all of these possibilities, options and technology available we are more confused than ever. As I said, this is true for youth generations of today compared to the old generations, whom at 30 many of them arleady had at least an idea of a Career or a family. The main protagonist does not have these things, yet, she is Proud of herself that she is "different" from the rest (in reality she isn't so different, much like many confused teenagers nowdays, and this makes the character relatable) in my opinion.
I ve felt at times, that the film is more like an extended Music video, music is a center-piece in the film, there are few scenes without music. I love music myself, and Road movies and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the characters. This is not a film that makes you think, it's rather a fun film following a confused Woman trying to find her road in life.
I won't spoil it for people who have not seen it *yet* about the situation with the landlord, and the fact that she lives like a drifter - she doesn't spend too much time in one place, she loves to travel - in the same time does not allow her to keep a steady job! She seems FINE with this aspect at least for now. The landlord situation, I ve felt could have been tragic, yet instead the film treats the problem with a sense of humour.
Overall if you are bored, or if you are a fan of Road movies with a chill vibe and people trying to find their place in life than you should see this film. It has a mellow, relaxing atmosphere and the New Zealand images and atmosphere is pretty cool.
