The Walking Dead: Days Gone Bye (2010)
Solid start
I finally got around to this show after putting it off for ages and it was worth it.
I already knew the premise as this is the biggest zombie/apocalypse show out there so I sort of knew what to expect which made the slow pace at the start of the episode not ideal for me, but that isn't the shows fault. While the premise that this episode builds on is impossible and doesn't make any sense this is a show with zombies in it so I can ignore the fact that a guy survived unconscious in a hospital for months and it helps us get right into the apocalypse. The acting was very good and got me emotional for characters I barely know and the opening theme perfectly matches the show. While Rick Grimes is great my favourite character from this episode was Morgan though it seems like we won't see him for a while if he's still alive.
My favourite aspect of the show so far is the emptiness left behind in the background that the characters travel through it immerses you into the characters situation and makes you seem isolated for large parts as this episode is mostly Rick by himself with even the zombies rarely keeping him company.
Overall its a great start although it suffers from problems most first episodes have such as pacing it got me excited to see the rest of the season already 8/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Chapters: Special 1 (2023)
What a special
That was one of the best aot episodes in the 10 years this show has gone on for. The beginning was great and captured the brutality of the manga. The animation is at WIT levels for the whole hour it was just beautiful to look at. This episode also had really good music to backup every scene using tracks all the way back from season 1, my favourite track was the one used when Hange takes on the collosal titans it was also used when Eren and levi squad were getting chased by Annie in the forest.
All the characters are given a chance to shine and all of them put in a brilliant performance seriously no one was below par in their delivery. The episode also has a great balance of dialogue and action the end when the Airships bomb the rumbling was breathtaking and I love the scenes with two characters having a one of one conversation it really allows them to shine.
The ONLY thing I didn't like was Floch being alive and shooting the ship because that was stupid, other than that Hanges sacrifice was perfect and her seeing all the scouts including Erwin was great it feels like ages since I've seen some of them. Every time the rumbling is on scene it immediately grabs your attention with the hellish red colour and pale Founding titan evoking terror. The last scene with the rumbling is my favourite because you can see Erens Founding titan at the front of the charge and it looks like something right out of the day of judgement.
The wait for part 2 is going to be a long wait but I hope MAPPA can do something special with it as I wasn't the biggest fan of the mangas last few chapters
Easily a 10/10 and it's probably in the top ten aot episodes.
Shinseiki Evangelion: Shito, Shuurai (1995)
Better on rewatch
When I first watched this show it started off bad for me but I remember enjoying the entire second half however I also remember disliking the first half.
This episode exceeded my expectations a second viewing made appreciate the beginning of the show. All the scenes with the angel are thrilling to watch, it's design was menacing, the animation of the whole episode was impressive considering it came out in 1995.
Another great aspect was the music it was always effective at amplifying each scene and made the action sequences even better.
Shingi and Misato are the main focus of the episode on my first viewing I found Shingi annoying but I adored Misato this time around I'm more open minded so I'll see if I appreciate Shingi's character more.
All in all its a much better opener than I remember even though the cliffhanger was criminal
8/10.
Chainsaw Man: Gun Devil (2022)
Important episode
This is one of my favourite episodes I'm not sure why it's rated so low.
It covers lots of information like revealing the gun devil and linking it to Aki's backstory (which was done exceptionally) and setting up the squad there was also a decent cliffhanger to end the episode aswell.
As I mentioned before Aki's backstory was done very well and I really like the pacing of the show, first Denji gets an episode to himself then it pans out to other characters around him. There are funny scenes scattered throughout the episode including everything with that tiny devil and the characters get to show off some of their abilities.
Solid episode that bridges last arc with the new arc. 9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Memories of the Future (2022)
As close to perfection as it gets
Almost everything has been tied together the next episode will be the final peice of the puzzle and after that the final story arc will take place
I've rewatched aot Almost 10 times and it never gets old and now this episode will make my next rewatch even better
10/10 best aot episode yet.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Two Brothers (2022)
Good as it gets
Game changing episode and the next episode is set up to be even better this is one of the best episodes so far after the last two episodes were a bit mediocre this one has really kick started the beginning of the end
Easy 10/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Old Story (2018)
Depressing past
This episode is scary in a different way than usual instead of being eaten by a titan if you speak out then the the government will be out to get you they are just as scary as the titans as they are selfish and hold power over everyone Erwin is given a great backstory which makes his goals more justified Historia has one of the worst backstorys her mother doesn't love her and her father is out of the picture this episode has a slow pace but after how bombastic the season started its understandable
8/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Pain (2018)
Perfect animation
This episode has the best animation I've ever seen which makes the fight between Levi and Kennys squad all the better the show is still exciting despite there being no titans around the second half of the episode is intriguing as it discussses killing other people aswell as the more important matter of where are Eren and Historia and who took them the next few episodes will probably involve heavy expisition
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Smoke Signal (2018)
Great opener
I can tell there is an increase in quality the animation is much better and the pace is quick the show is heading in a different route and it'll be interesting to see what happens it seems like there are some people after the new Levi squad and next episode is set to be a banger Levi will probably have a backstory episode explaining who Kenny is
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Scream (2017)
Easily the best aot episode
This was something special Eren encountering the titan that killed his mum Hannes came back to get revenge but it wasn't to be Hannes dies brutally just like many other characters this season Erens voice actor gives his best performance yet and Eren stands up to the titan and after punching it all the other titans attack it giving everyone a chance to escape its a shame Eren didn't kiss Mikasa the music was fantastic and this episode is a great close to the season I've heard season 3 is great and I can't wait
10/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Totsugeki (2017)
Erwin Smith is a beast
This is a very good episode Erwin Smith is the standout continuing to yell orders while in a titans mouth Mikasa is ruthless aswell as she basically ignores Bertolt when he tries to get everyone to understand it will be really interesting to see the motivation Reiner Annie and Bertolt had maybe the beast titan forced them to go through with their plan the finale is up next and this one will be tense with the smiling titan returning
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Children (2017)
Confusing episode
Ymirs past is revealed and while it's hard to make out what's happening it seems that she came from a different wall outside of wall Maria her backstory all but confirms the theory that titans are humans Ymir also captures Historia which means that she might have a role in the mystery this episode is a good set up for a big battle
8/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Opening (2017)
Disappointing
This is the very first aot episode that I haven't liked before this every episode was at minimum enjoyable this episode is by no means terrible in fact its better than most shows around but this episode drops below the high standard set for aot the dialogue is extremely annoying characters stop or are cut off just before something important gets said and Eren acts really naively but that's down to his endless determination
6/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Hunters (2017)
Things at a standstill
This is a weaker episode but Hannes has some nice lines about how he wants things to go back to how they were who could blame him after an intense battle this episode was always going to be slower hopefully we get to see ehats happening with Eren and Reiner at the moment
7/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Close Combat (2017)
Epic action
This is the most excited I've been for an aot episode and this episode didn't disappoint Eren initially goes at Reiner with pure rage and is out matched but then he changes things up by using techniques he learnt from Annie to take out Reiner the show is excellent at explaining situations and this I'd yet another example Eren went for weak points in Reiners armour like the back of the knee
10/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Warrior (2017)
Major reveal
This episode felt like it would be another slow one there were two action packed episodes before and this episode started off like it was everyone recovering on the wall then at the end of the episode Reiner calmly tells Eren he's the armoured titan and that Bertolt is the collosal titan it happened so suddenly with so little importance if you blinked you'd of missed the line the transformations are as good as always with Erens being the pick of the bunch and now season 2 has really kicked off
10/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Historia (2017)
Historia
This episode is probably the strongest of the second season so far it gives background on the promise Ymir made Historia and has some great action with Ymir using the castle to fight the titans then after Ymir is overrun and all hope seems lost the scouts rescue the day and Eren gets his first human kill on a titan there seems to not be a hole in the wall which means that the titans could be people from Connie's village
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Soldier (2017)
Another twist
This episode finally ramps up the tension the soldiers fight these special titans that stay awake at night time and all of them get wiped out meanwhile Reiner gets a very brief flashback as he faces a titan I am very suspicious of him at the moment and any detail about him is important at the moment but the most important part of the episode is the ending when Ymir turns out to be a titan she was a background character in the first season so this season has a lot it needs to explain about her
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Southwestward (2017)
Mystery thickens
This is another slow episode but the next episode seem like it will involve a battle at the castle the beast titan seems to be the 'leader' of the titans and it made a brief appearance here however it doesn't look like it will be hanging around for long thrre are a few characters who seem to be covering things up which could have meaning in future episodes like how Reiner pulled Connie away from the talking titan
8/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: I'm Home (2017)
Sacha gets appreciated
Sasha provided comedic moments in her cameos in season 1 and she has her own episode which while admittedly is filler gives Sacha's character layers of development the small titan is probably scarier than larger titans because it seem more human like and the way it eats the little girls mom is disturbing
8/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Beast Titan (2017)
Great start
I was really excited for the 2nd season and the first episode didn't disappoint the show has a completely new tone and the beast titan looks like a formidable opponent for the scouts there are lots of mysteries now and I can't wait to see where they lead
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Mercy: Raid on Stohess District, Part 2 (2013)
Perfect set
Just like episode 12 I expected this to be the finale but it wasn't however this time there is tense action and this might be the scariest episode of the season Eren Mikasa and Armin are trapped in a narrow tunnel with Annie trying to squash them you get the feeling that anyone can die at any time and it's brilliant Mikasa and Armin get our but Eren isn't so lucky the scouts fight the female titan while Eren lays severely injured but that doesn't stop Eren leading to my favourite transformation of the whole season bring on the finale
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Smile: Raid on Stohess District, Part 1 (2013)
Identity unmasked
I had a break after the last episode for a few days but I came back and this is yet another crazy episode it starts off slow but since its from Annie's perspective we can already guess that she's the female titan we get to see the inside of the mps before the main conflict of the episode begins Eren Mikasa and Armin need to escape the mps so they tell the truth and a lie at the same time to get Annie to go with them Annie saw right through them and tge small detail of the ring comes into play Annie transforms and now thr the survey corps are in trouble
9/10.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Defeated: The 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls, Part 6 (2013)
Heart wrenching
I thought last episode would stand unopposed but this episode is just as good the acting here is as good as it gets I gained massive respect for Levi and Erwin who have to carry the losses of every expedition Erens voice actor outdid himself here showing how hopeless and distressed Eren is this episode was hard to watch I the best way nothing seems to go right for Eren and the rest of humanity the ending is bleak and I don't know what to expect from the final few episodes.
Shingeki no Kyojin: Erwin Smith: The 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls, Part 4 (2013)
More twists!
This episode seemed like it would calm things down but instead the female titan outwits the scouts yet again by drawing titans to her so that she can escape my best guess on the identity is that its Annie or Christa but I'm leaning towards Annie as she is supposedly with the mps this show is on a roll at the moment producing yet another high caliper episode
9/10.
