About Fate (2022)
Forgettable but cute
Another romantic movie, with the same typical formula that is predictable, without adding anything special to the plot.
HOWEVER, it's not a bad one, not even close to it. If you enjoy Roberts and these types of movies, go ahead, put it on and you'll have fun with it, no doubts about it.
You won't be bored, but you won't be surprised either.
I watched it and immediately knew it had nothing new to offer, nontheless, I enjoyed myself and spent less that two hours with a cute movie couple that was bound to end up the way they always end up at the finale.
Very charming while watching, but as soon the credits roll you won't care to remember anything about it.
Set It Up (2018)
A comfort movie, through and through
First off, we need a moment for the amazing dynamic between Zoey and Glen. I'm certain that with a different cast, this would be half the movie. And, hey, I know that this film can be percieved as another typical rom-com with nothing special to offer, but let me tell you, it has all the ingredients to make you fall in love with it, if you're willing to give it a chance!!
The scheming and the sneaking around really made me laugh and have fun. On top of that, at the end of the movie, you won't be wondering (like all the other times you saw a chessy and empty chick flick) how and why the couple ended up together.
Also, I need to add that Lui and Diggs were the perfect a**hole bosses.
Holidate (2020)
Any rom-com with Roberts is a must in my eyes
Let's get this out of the way:
When there's a romantic/romantic-comedy with Emma Roberts, it's bound to be entertaining and a good time, overall. Also, I loved Bracey's charisma and he was great.
The movie has the typical Netflix stamp, for sure. However, I don't think that's a bad thing, since it has a reliable quality to it! It doesn't surprise you and it doesn't re-ivent the wheel (not every movie has to do that).
Just sit back, search it on Netflix and enjoy the plot as it takes you to a journey about two people who rely on each other to get through the times that being single feels like a mortal sin.
A Perfect Pairing (2022)
When Netflix met Hallmark
The movie has not a lot to offer (even though, I have to admit, the storyline does a solid job of not boring you with the same old same old plotpoints we all know and hate), since it's your typical romantic movie, with all the things you would expect from the genre and Netflix.
NEVERTHELESS, before writing "A perfect pairing" off, let me tell you this:
Demos was great and Justice was good. Why not watch it after a tiring day, with a glass of your favourite wine, while enjoying the scenery and the rest of the nature shots? There's been worse and cheesiest rom-comflicks, let's not fool ourselves.
The Hating Game (2021)
I really liked this, until I read the book
At first, I fell in love with the story, since I'm a sucker for these haters to lovers storylines. The two protagonists have great chemistry and their steamy scenes felt organic. And, even though this didn't add anything new to the "romantic movies" genre, by the end of the movie, I was jealous of Lucy and in love with Joshua!
However, when I actually sat down and read the book that it's based off of... I was severely dissapointed. Sally Thorne did a solid job when writing the story, but not even half of it was transfered to the script. The writers' job fell short, that's for sure.
Anyway, if you don't want to bother with the book, give it a shot and you'll have a good time.
The Menu (2022)
More unique movies like this, PLEASE
Is the Menu perfect? No
Is it a very unique experience? Yes
As far as I am concerned, I can overlook the flaws of this film, since it's a really fresh story with tention, mystery and talent.
We need to take a moment to praise the cast, since I strnogly feel like their dynamics added something extra to the rest of the plot. Taylor-Joy, Hoult and Fiennes as the stars of the show?? The rest of the assemble is star studded, for sure, but these three were the ones who held everything together.
Don'n let yourself get fooled, even if youdidn't like it, by the end of it, you'll definately be googling and reading articles, with great interest, to piece together the puzzle of this movie.
Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague (2017)
MUST WATCH
I cannot stress enough how majestic this concert was! Definately once in a lifetime experince.
You don't have to know a whole lot about films or music, you'll get the chills and enjoy it anyway. I know I did and I wish I could be there, to feel the energy, live from the audience.
Hans Zimmer, the orchestra and the perfomers deserves all the applaue in the world for blessing our ears like that. Special shout-out to Zimmer for being the genius that he is and has been, for so many years. He's so iconic and his stamp is all over the biggest pop culture moments. How can you not appreciate that???
I, Tonya (2017)
Depth and substance
I loved how it showed the many, many things Tonya went through. It's a real movie, about real people and real events. Something you unquestionably feel.
You know, it could have gone a very different way if the movie makers decided to judge the whole story based on the media response of the times and control how the audience would feel while watching this. But no, they actually took their time and unfolded every signle aspect of the matter without trying to force something.
I found the storytelling brilliant and all of the cast was amazing!
At the end, you just feel sad and you start to wonder, what would hapen Tonya's explosive and full of talent figure skating career if all those awful things didn't happen to her?
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Outstanding!
So freaking awsome! You'll have fun, you'll cry and you'll dance.
But, after watching this I couldn't help but feel sad that I missed Freddie's era. He was so unapollogetic about who he is and shook things up. How can you not admire that? A true legend. An icon.
All the actors were great. The perfomances felt more than real and I likes how they didn't add unecessary things to the story.
Let's applaud, though, Rami for doing more than great! I'd love to see him in more musical films.
Vice (2018)
Wow
A movie about a guy that is thirsty for power and finds himself in the eye of one of the biggest moments of American history? I didn't really expect to enjoy this as much as I did! It was funny, thought-provoking and dramatic all while being enjoyable.
I get why this movie is controversial but as a European I liked how the events were portrayed.
Bale is amazing and is supported by the excellent perfomaces of Adams, Rockwell and Carell.
The only downside is, the story telling is kind of weird/different. Not necessarily a bad thing, even though I didn't enjoy it that much. The editing is unusual too, but I really loved it!
Black Panther (2018)
Don't know where to start
I'm sure people who can't appreciate superhero movies are rolling their eyes right now but guess what!? This movie is so well excecuted, so full of meaning and so full of talented actors that it deserves all the love and hype!
The visuals, the action, the costumes, the story, the music, the message and the perfomanes make Black Panther an amazing movie overall.
Don't miss it, you'll have a great time.
The Favourite (2018)
Highly dissapointed
I went into this movie wanting to love it. Lanthimos is known for making great films and the actors were ridiculously talented.
The acting, the costumes and the cinematography are all delightful, there's no argument in that.
However, it's difficult to follow considering that it's not historically accurate, it gets pretty confusing at times and, to my surprise, it's nothing to be excited about.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Mind-blowing
This was the first movie directed by Spike Lee and I'm so happy I finally discovered him! He knows how to deliver comedy, action and serious/intesne moments exceptioanlly.
This movie is exceptional in every aspect.
Washington and Driver are undeniably outstanding.
Of course, it's one of those movies that make you wanna educate yourself and search about the real life people and events.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Absolutely brilliant
It wasn't just a Korean, but a universal masterpiece.
A black comedy about class in its best form!
Certainly, one of the best movies of the decade!
Joker (2019)
Joaquin Phoenix and his talent saved this
Are we loving "Joker" because of the actual plot and screenplay or we just can't have enough of Joaquin Phoenix's talent?
This movie has a clear message and Joaquin Phoenix is undoubtedly phenomenal.
However, the actual movie is kind of messy and the only thing that saved it was the acting.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Something was missing
Even though I loved watching the story unfold I never stopped feeling like this movie had no point.
Did I enjoy DiCaprio and Pitt? Absolutely!
Did this movie had an actual plot? No...it as just a story with nothing happening.
Don't get me wrong. This movie has the Tarantino stamp everywhere (whether you're his fan or not you'll recognise it and appreciate it) which makes it memorable and fascinating.
But what was the point?
Marriage Story (2019)
The performances carried this movie
Driver and Johansson give powerful perfomances. Dern's acting is impeccable too (no wonder she won the oscar!).
I find that the story itself wasn't anything special.
Perhaps it was just me but even though I expected to get emotional, I didn't. I only felt sorry for Charlie and every little Charlie out there who had to go through something like this.
Tenet (2020)
Wanted more
Let's start by saying that, in my honest opinion, a movie shouldn't have to be watched multiple times in order to be understood.
You can always watch something many times and enjoy it by decoding its secrets BUT you shouldn't have to rewatch something because it didn't make itself clear the first time.
By that being said, Tenet was enjoyable, fun, complex and very very interesing. John David Washington and Robert Pattinson were exquisite and Elizabeth Debicki added much interest to the story.
However, it left me wanting more information and explanation. As a Christopher Nolan fan (from Memento to Inception) I was pretty dissapointed as I didn't feel the delivery of the storyline and its complexity were fully explained.
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
Could be so much more!
I cannot start this review without a specia shout-out to Chadwick, whose last role was enchanting, to say the least!
Of course, we mustn't forget the always amazing Viola who was the star of the show.
I'm giving this movie an 8 only because of the actors, the costumes, the makeup and the music. Unfortunately, the plot felt short.
Mank (2020)
Bizzare but nice (?)
I'm only giving it a 7 because of the actors perfomances and the cinematography (so stunning!).
I really enjoyed it but I don't feel like it made sense. It's a shame though,I'm a big fan of Fincher!
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Shocking, satisfactory and full of substance
As a woman I was feeling all the feelings because the movie knew how to deal with difficult subjects while doing it in a funny gentle and mind-blowing way!
Please, don't think even for a second that it's one of those stupid movies who were made just to shock people...it's so much more than that.
Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)
A must watch movie with incredible perfomances
As a European, I must say I'm not as informed as I shoud be about the civil rights movement and, in general, about black people's efforts to be treated as descent human beings in the USA during the 20th century.
After watching this movie I felt like I needed to do more research and to educate myself. In my huble opinion, that's what great movies do to you.
There's no doubt that both LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya did an exceptional job and that the movie was remarkable.
Nomadland (2020)
Watch and form your opinion
I'm not sure how I feel about this movie.
I definitely enjoyed it and liked the story overall. Zhao did an exceptional job and McDormand gave a powerful performance.
I'm not sure how accurately it portrayed the people who follow or had to follow this type of lifestyle and I guess that's why I'm not sure of my feelings.
Nonetheless, it's an out of the ordinary movie!
Wrath of Man (2021)
Fierce and moving
Ritchie and Statham...a match made in heaven!
Watch it and you won't be dissapointed.
I just hope it doesn't fly under the radar because it's not your typical Jason Statham perfomance or your typical light-hearted Guy Ritchie movie.
Love & Friendship (2016)
Enjoyable
I liked and enjoyed the movie as a whole but half of the time I was getting upset by Kate's character. The period costumes were beautiful and the rest of the characters felt interesting.
I wasn't a great fan of the movie but I'll definitely give the corresponding book ("Lady Susan") a go since the premise was indeed interesting.
